Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, during the manufacturing process, oil was applied to the brake pedal assembly to prevent rust. this oil can leak into the brake stop switch and contaminate the electrical contacts.
Consequence SummaryEventually, the brake lights will not illuminate when the brakes are applied, which increases the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will clean any excess oil from the pedal assembly and replace the stop switch. owner notification began may 16, 2002. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact acura at 1-800-382-2238.

 Tl- the contact owns 2001 acura 3.5rl. the contact had a flat on the rear left wheel and replaced it with a spare. after traveling a couple of miles, the anti lock braking light came on and the contact lost all braking. the contact stated that the rear wheels were spinning and different rates of speed and it cause d the brakes to fail. after the contact turn the vehicle off and back on the braking system started to operate properly. the vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage and current mileage and current mileage was 110000.rl
