The brake line had been rubbing against the chasis where it enters the tire well. the line had worn flat until it ruptured causing a loss of brake fluid/pressure. the brakes were rendered inoperable. the failure appears to be due to a design failure. as the suspension moved up and down, the brake line rubbed against the sharp edge of the chasis - and over the years had worn the chasis to a mirror shine indicating that it had been rubbing for some time. the brake line itself was worn flat on the back side until it eventually ruptured.
