Defect SummaryAffinia is recalling certain aftermarket front suspension lower ball joints, napa part no. 2601662, that may have been mistakenly installed in certain model year 2004 - 2008 acura tl vehicles due to a mistake in a napa and napa dealers' parts application catalogue.
Consequence SummaryMisapplication of this part could lead to separation of the ball joint from the lower control arm and collapse of the front suspension, which could potentially cause a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia is working with napa to identify any owners that have had this part mistakenly installed on to an acura tl vehicle, and will replace the part free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during july 2011. owners may contact affinia group's warranty administrator at 1-815-759-7757.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 acura tl. the vehicle has goodyear eagle tires. the contact stated that there was a tsb number 05-076 that was issued by acura. the tsb pertains to tire wear when the vehicle is loaded. the contact purchased brand new tires in december of 2007. he took a road trip with 5,000 miles on the tires. the trip was 5,600 miles. while driving 75 mph, he noticed that the tires were bald a couple of days ago. he called the acura dealer and informed them of the failure. the dealer stated that they would repair the tires with the towing issue and the tsb, but would not replace the tires. the tires are both on the rear of the vehicle. the tire size was unknown. the failure mileage was 29,000. updated 09/10/08 *bf the consumer didn't believe the problem was with the tires. he believed it had to do with the poor design of the vehicle. the consumer stated there was extra weight in the rear of the vehicle, in his case was about 300lbs comprised of suitcases and his daughter in the back seat (the suitcases were in the trunk). when he arrived home, he noticed the tread on the tires had worn down to nothing. updated 09/10/08

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 acura tl. the contact stated that every time he drives his vehicle at 50 mph, the vehicle vibrates and then stops. once the speed reaches 75 mph, the vibration becomes worse. he took the vehicle to the dealer twice, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. the current mileage was 46,000 and failure mileage was 500. updated 02-19-08 *bf

Tl*- the contact stated that when the 2004 acura tl, was at the dealership on 01/18/07 for regular maintenance she was informed by the service mechanic that the 2 rear tiresprematurely wear wore out. the contact stated that nhtsa has a service bulletin #05076. the contact stated that the mechanic informed her that it was best to purchase 4 new tires instead of replacing the 2 back tires. the contact stated that these tires came with the vehicle with dot# 0b6ntu22404 and size p235/45r17 radial. the contact felt that this was manufacturing issue and the manufacturer should recall these tires. the dealership informed her that she has to pay 75% of tire replacement as per the dealership tire chart, honda will pay remaining 25%. the contact stated that this is a public safety issue and the tires could explode anytime and it is not the fault of the owner. *ak updated 03/30/07. *jb

My car has been to the dealer twice for replacement tires due to vibration throughout my car. the second time my tires were replaced with the updated el42, and the vibrations still persist, along with the fact that the car now pulls to the left. when i called criswell acura of annapolis, i was told that the pulling to the left was not an alingment problem it was a tire pressure issue. so i took my car back to the dealership and they properly inflated my tires. and of course my car still pulls to the left. *ak

While driving 50 mph vehicle vibrated with such a force that consumer had to slow the speed down to almost a stop to get vibration to stop. it occurred mostly in the mornings when vehicle just started out. consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, who said that it was a tire problem and not a mechanical defect. consumer then put on a set of bridgestone turanza el42 tires which were the same tires that were on the vehicle. the next day the same problem occurred at the same speeds. in other words, nothing changed. *ak

I've purchased the 2004 tl on october 2003. since the very beginning, the car would constantly vibrate at higher speeds (primarily at 55+mph). took the car to the dealer for wheel alignment and balancing. the problem didn't go away. six months later, acura replaced my bridgstone tires with a new re-fromulated tires. as a result, the vibration felt at higher speeds weren't as severe (though still present). after driving for a month, the same level of vibrations at higher speeds returned. i've been attempting to resolve the issue with my dealer and acura for 8 months now, but as of today, no resolution has been forthcoming. vibrations felt at 55+mph, is a serious safety issue and i believe acura should be more proactive in resolving this matter.*ak

Traveling on the interstate, the car lost traction and began to fish tail down the road as left and right front tires lost grip with the road intermittently back and forth. there was some very minor puddling in the ruts on the highway and it was raining lightly on and off. the onboard vehicle stability systems (abs, vsc) did not activate. the vehicle speed was within speed limits and consistent with other vehicle speeds on the highway at the time. the vehicle is equipped with bridgestone turanza el42 tires. *ak

Dt: the contact stated when hitting a bump the rear end the vehicle skidded out. causing abnormal tire wear. he replaced the rear tires twice, every 7,000-8,000 miles. the vehicle has been taken to two different dealerships, and they were unable to diagnose the problem. *ak updated 12/7/2005. the consumer's vehicle is now on it's third set of tires. the dealer stated that since the rear tire were worn evenly that alignment was not the problem. *nm
