Defect SummaryHonda is recalling 129,600 my 2004-2005 acura tl vehicles. if water enters the windshield wiper motor breather port, which is designed to allow the motor to vent warm air during normal operation, it can result in corrosion inside the motor housing. this could cause a failure of the electrical circuit breaker inside the motor housing.
Consequence SummaryIf the circuit breaker fails, it will cause the windshield wiper motor to become inoperative, which can increase the likelihood of a crash in certain conditions.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the windshield wiper motor for signs of corrosion. if no signs of corrosion are present, a snorkel tube will be added to the wiper motor breather port to prevent water from entering the wiper motor housing and foam tape will be installed on the cowl above the wiper motor to direct water away from the wiper motor. if signs of corrosion damage are observed on the wiper motor, the motor will be replaced, and the breather tube and foam tape will also be installed to prevent water intrusion on the new wiper motor. the recall began on april 28, 2008. owners may contact acura at 1-800-382-2238.
NotesAcura recall no. q72.customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration

My 2004 acura tl was parked during an ice storm in raleigh, nc, last week. when i returned to my car and started it on wednesday, january 12, 2011, the windshield wipers would not come on. i checked the fuses and did not find a problem there. i brought my car to the dealer for oil change, brake pads, and to check the wipers this morning. i looked on this website and found out there had been a recall in 2008 of the windshield wiper motor. when i called the dealer, they informed me that the recall service had already been performed on my vehicle in 2008. it seems to me that something else is wrong if the motor has failed again. this is costing me about $380 and am wondering if there is anything i can do to recoup the money for this repair. is it not likely that this problem is related to the previous problem for which the car was recalled? there was no problem with the windshield wipers prior to my trip, and the car sat in the same spot from saturday night until wednesday morning.

On case pe07060 with acura wipers. the fix acura provided simply does not work. my wipers stopped working for no apparent reason during during a storm (common in south florida). i almost got into a huge accident because i could not see. thankfully i was abvle to pull over. the fuse is ok. when i took the vehicle to acura they told me that they were aware of the ongoing issue but since the re-call was done that i had to pay for them to look at it and really fix the issue instead of the patch that was done.

 1. recall campaign id# 08v092000 - 2004-2005 acura tl (windshield wiper motor); manufacturer report date: february 25, 2008 2. as per acura, a wiper motor kit was installed june 27, 2008 on my 2004 acura tl. 3. on september 11, 2009 my windshield wipers became inoperable. i contacted the dealership and acura client services immediately. i made an appointment to take my vehicle to the acura dealership and was told that i would have to pay for the repair since the recall was complete. although, the wiper motor kit was installed (june 27, 2008) as a preventive measure by the dealership, the wiper motor kit did not prevent my windshield wiper motor from the corrosion as mentioned in the defect notice, owner notification letter (part 577), recall acknowledgement and recall summary. the dealership ruled the repair on september 12, 2009 due to wiper motor electrical fault. *tr

Windshield cracked while making a right turn onto a freeway. after inspection to the windshield acura said a small stone had nicked the windshield causing it to break. acura paid half the cost of replacement but i was still $330 out of pocket. after checking around with other 2004 acura tl owners im not alone. many owners are reporting broken windshields in the first few thousand miles. many owners believe that the problem is a sound barrier sandwiched in-between the two layers of glass. source acura-tl.com. *ak

Driving to work in the rain this morning and windshield wipers stopped working. i had zero visibility and was in the flow of traffic on a four lane road. i have seen several of these complaints on the internet and think that this type of safety failure should be addressed by the manufacturer. *tr
