| Dashboard cracks -noticed small crack in my 2005 tl dashboard over the passenger airbag in may 2012. overnight it grew from front to back. my car is garaged. contacted my service advisor by phone and he stated it was cosmetic and due to high heat and high mileage. i stated car was garaged and i owned other cars that were as old and never experience this. he told me cost was $1850 to replace. he said he'd send the complaint to corporate and get back to me. he came back to me and said acura would pay 75% of cost since i was a good customer. i said that was not acceptable and i would like to talk to regional manager. he said he'd take the request further. in the meantime i noticed another crack. a week later i got a call stating acura would pay 85% and i'd pay $247 plus tax. i was concerned that the airbag could malfunction and not deploy when in an accident or deploy for no reason. i decided to pay the $247. dealer stated he would give me a loaner car. before i brought the car in for repair i noticed two more cracks. my concern is safety for me and my passengers and i did not feel safe with dashboard cracks. this was a design flaw or material defect and acura should recall to satisfy customers. too many others with same problem and this is a luxury car. acura knows it's an issue otherwise they wouldn't have agreed to pay $85%. | |||

| Paying the money for a luxury car would make you think you were buying a quality product. unfortunately, after only 7 years of owning my car, there are 2 huge cracks in my dashboard with one of them being right along the outline of my airbag. i am hoping this crack does not affect the performance of my airbag if ever needed, but i guess i won't find out unless it is deployed and the rest of my dashboard shatters into pieces probably causing another injury! | |||

| My acura 2005 tl formed giant cracks in the dashboard overnight. i am worried about the safety of the airbags due to these cracks, my research has shown that others have experienced this same problem and that the cracks only get worse and appear above the passenger side airbag if the dash is not replaced. please see the facebook page devoted to this problem (photos included): https://www.facebook.com/acuratldefectivedash?sk=wall&filter=1 acura is not recognizing this a potential safety defect. i think they need to take responsibility for this defect and make an official recall and replace this for free. if anything happens to any of my passengers due to the cracks in my dashboard i am holding acura responsible for their care. | |||

| I rear ended someone while driving on a busy southern california freeway. the car in front of me had slowed down after noticing that the person in front of her had slammed on her brakes. i was travelling at least 40 mph and did not notice the car in front had slowed down/stopped and i rear-ended her. her car had a lot of rear bumper damage. my car sustained the brunt of the force and was damaged in the front. no one was hurt, but my husband was in the passenger seat, while my 2 year old was in his car seat in the back. my airbags did not deploy, despite the fact that it was a frontal collision with extensive damage to the front. this accident, thankfully, was not fatal, however could easily have been. this happened on a very busy freeway with cars travelling at least 65 mph. it also happened almost immediately after a slight turn in the freeway, making it difficult for cars to notice an accident in time to stop. my car could have easily been hit from behind almost immediately after the collision. i don't feel safe driving it anymore (even after it's fixed) because i view that car as a loaded gun and i'm playing russian roulette. it's my primary mode of transportation and we use this car for any travelling we do. my son is mostly in my car (school, etc.). i wanted to report this so that this does not happen to others and, god forbid, be fatal. please investigate these incidences so no unnecessary consequences occur as a result of faulty airbags. | |||

| Over a 24 hour period the a crack running the full width of the dash appeared immediately above the passenger side air bag. this has caused the airbag light to begin going on and off while driving. i do not know if the airbag is functioning properly. in the event of an accident it may mean that the airbag will not deploy or deploy correctly, or it may mean that the airbag deploys when it should not. it will also mean that shards of plastic from the dash will fly around the cabin causing additional and unnecessary injury to occupants. i will no longer allow passengers in my car for fear of the injury this may cause them. this is a well-known and well-documented problem with the 2005 tl. acura corrected the problem with subsequent models and has replaced the dash for many of those who complained, labeling it goodwill, but they have not elected to correct the problem on all and do not deal with it consistently. please have acura issue a recall before someone is seriously hurt or killed because of this. | |||

| 2005, 78,000 acura tl (garage kept) cracks on dash above the instrument cluster and passenger side in middle. these cracks start from the window and end on the glove box and instrument cluster. what will happen when air bag deploys? i am afraid of when the air bag deploys that the dash will separate into several shards of plastic and imbed in face, upper-body of driver and passenger. worst-case scenario is that the air bag will be defected, as the dash-console structure has been compromised. i have read numerous complaints and viewed pictures of the exact same defect online. what will it take acura to recognize that there is a problem with this dash does someone have to be hurt or worse die? | |||

| My dash is cracking. i take care of my dash, keep it clean, garaged, etc. all of a sudden there are two long cracks in the middle of the dash and right above the instrument cluster on the dash. i checked around and it appears i am not the only one that has had this problem. the car is only 5 years old, and is considered a luxury sport car. the reasons i am concerned is because airbags are located underneath the dash, could they one day deploy while driving? or not deploy at all when involved in an accident? also, this really devalues the car, and the approximate cost of repair is around $1700. | |||

| 2005 acura tl: the dashboard began cracking about a month ago over the instrument cluster and just yesterday it bagan cracking over the passenger side airbag. i believe this may pose a threat when the airbag is the deployed, because the crack may possibly rip the airbag. airbag systems are designed to open a speciific way, but a crack may interfere with that. there are also several 100 other people on a vehicle forum that are having same exact problem. thank you for your time. | |||

| I'd like to bring to your attention an important public safety issue with acura. their airbags have the potential to deploy spontaneously. this has happened yesterday to me 2/15/2010. i was driving on route 83 in baltimore at around 6am and without any impact or warning, my front and rear driver's side as well as the driver's seat airbags deployed in my 2005 acura tl. i thought someone was shooting or my tire blew out. i immediately got out of the car and checked the car and found nothing wrong, except the air bag damage. it damaged my driver?s seat and interior roof in the front and back. the steering wheel air bag did not deploy, nor did the air bags inflate. the car was drivable, but the seat belt was broken. after settling at work, i place a call to my insurance company and to norris acura (ellicott city, md) where i have my auto service done. the insurance company asked me to contact acura because there may be a manufacturer's defect. acura asked me to bring my car in the next day. they evaluated the car and asked me to contact my insurance company even though there's no physical damage to the car. they insist that i must have hit a pot hole, ice or something. i hit nothing. if that was the case and i hit something, the air bag should have deployed and inflated. they never inflated, they just deployed. the air bag in the steering also never deployed. so if they say that i must have hit something, then the airbags are still defective and would not have protected me in an impact. my car is currently at the dealership now with 3 deployed airbags (driver's side) without any physical damage to the car. i'm not sure what to do. i don't want to have to pay a deductible with my insurance company, if this is a manufacturer's defect. *tr | |||

| I own a 2005 acura tl, and the dashboard, over the passenger airbag, is cracked. i contacted the dealership and spoke to a sales rep who advised that this is a problem in all of the high temperature areas of the u.s. and, acura knows that this is an issue, and they are willing to pay a percentage of the cost of replacement, so long as the vehicle fits the criteria. my vehicle has been very well maintained, and this is not a cosmetic issue. my primary concern is that the passenger side airbag may deploy while i'm driving, and potentially cause a crash. or, in the event that i am involved in the crash that the airbag may not work properly. i never imagined an issue like this would arise, and not be properly addressed by acura. i am very disappointed. | |||

| I have 05 acura tl. my dashboard started to crack. it seems the airbag is going to pop out. i really worried about this. i also found out alot acura tl third generation r having the same problem. i hope acura can do a recall on their defective dash! | |||

| 2005 acura tl dash seems to be very defective. the crack occured over a months time. the crack is from the passanger windshield straight down over the passenger airbag. estimated crack measures about 2cm wide. if you look at the crack and the other complaints regarding this we all have the same concern, which is the airbag. at some point the crack is going to continue to get larger, wider and will effect the passenger airbag if it is not directly affected now. i purchased this vehicle for my 16 year old daughter due to the safety it had such high ratings on. this crack would not be so much of a concern if located somewhere else on the dash, but again it is directly over the passenger airbag. if everyone else is having this crack in the exact same location, it is very concerning that something was not put together as it should be and it should be an obvious recall. we should not wait to see passengers getting killed due to malfuction airbags or due to the dash to fix this recall. | |||

| My 2005 acura tl as well as my fiance's 2004 acura tl have developed dashboard cracks in exactly the same places around the passenger airbag. i'm very concerned for the airbags exploding unexpectedly due to this as it seems pressure in the airbag is pushing up the dash. we've found numerous other tl owners having the same issue. acura is reluctant to deal with the problem and quotes well in excess of $1000 just for the labor to fix a clearly defective part that may have serious safety implications. *tr | |||

| I'd like to bring to your attention an important public safety issue with acura. their airbags have the potential to deploy spontaneously. this has happened yesterday to me 2/15/2010. i was driving on route 83 in baltimore at around 6am and without any impact or warning, my front and rear driver's side as well as the driver's seat airbags deployed in my 2005 acura tl. i thought someone was shooting or my tire blew out. i immediately got out of the car and checked the car and found nothing wrong, except the air bag damage. it damaged my driver?s seat and interior roof in the front and back. the steering wheel air bag did not deploy, nor did the air bags inflate. the car was drivable, but the seat belt was broken. after settling at work, i place a call to my insurance company and to norris acura (ellicott city, md) where i have my auto service done. the insurance company asked me to contact acura because there may be a manufacturer's defect. acura asked me to bring my car in the next day. they evaluated the car and asked me to contact my insurance company even though there's no physical damage to the car. they insist that i must have hit a pot hole, ice or something. i hit nothing. if that was the case and i hit something, the air bag should have deployed and inflated. they never inflated, they just deployed. the air bag in the steering also never deployed. so if they say that i must have hit something, then the airbags are still defective and would not have protected me in an impact. my car is currently at the dealership now with 3 deployed airbags (driver's side) without any physical damage to the car. i'm not sure what to do. i don't want to have to pay a deductible with my insurance company, if this is a manufacturer's defect. *tr | |||
