My car had a steering fluid leak in 09 during a family trip. i did not know of the leak but after hrs that the car cooled down (after arriving at the final destination) and started it again that the steering made a lot of noise and was stiff. acura customer service said that it would be covered under warranty. that was very odd since the 3 yr warranty had expired the previous year (08). she never said there was a recall. she told me to drive it to the nearest dealer, a 3 hr car drive in the opposite direction to my hometown. customer service agreed that i would drive the car back to my hometown to a honda dealer where they would replace hose. after inspection technicians found that the pump was damaged as well as a result of the leak but acura didnot take responsability because they said the warranty was for the hose not the pump. later on after surfing the net i found in nhtsa there was a recall. unfortunately some months after the hose was replaced at the honda dealer i had a 2nd steering fluid leak, minor this time. this happened after several days of continuous driving and arriving in canada during another long family trip. at acura west in ontario it was diagnosed a steering fluid leak. the honda dealer that had replaced the hose said that they were not responsible since the leak ocurred months after it was replaced. i contacted honda and acura but they didn

High pressure power steering fluid hose leaked, causing fluid to fall onto the exhaust system. as the engine temperature increased, smoke came out of the engine compartment and there was the odor of burning hydrocarbons in the passenger compartment. the hose assembly was replaced by an independent mechanic.

2006 acura tl is difficult to steer during parking lot maneuvers, k turns and parallel parking. when the wheel needs to be turned quickly to opposite lock during a maneuver the wheel becomes very difficult to turn setting a potential for a wide turn and colliding with near by objects. dealer replaced steering rack, tires and states the steering pump is functioning as designed. dealer states that this is a normal condition for the acura tl. no accidents or incidents have occurred a potential problem, however, if a quick avoidance maneuver is required.
