| 'recall campaign' issued for audi a4 oil sludge warranty extension , audi is not honoring it. *bf the consumer received the warranty information in the mail after the repairs done. the consumer stated the problem centered around the incorrect oil spec for the audi a4. the oil that was recommended for the vehicle when the consumer purchased it was of a normal weight, which after time caused the oil sludge. the manufacturer are now requiring a lighter/synthetic grade oil. the warranty extension department denied the consumers claim for reimbursement because he did not have a few oil change records. *jb | |||

| S10 appropriate handling re: defective braking system fm owner of a audi a4. *kb the consumer believed the automated system used to control the braking in his vehicle was seriously defective. he was basing this on testing that he performed on the vehicle as a result of a nearly tragic situation which involved an attempt to stop the vehicle when the braking system automatically engaged. an unexpected event occurred when the vehicle continued for hundreds of feet with minimal deceleration from a speed of approximately 45 mph. the vehicle essentially never stopped, at least not on its own. still unstoppable, while continuing down the side of the road, the vehicle was turned into a parking lot of a closed business where the vehicle finally came to rest. *jb | |||

| Consumer states the front suspension, specifically the upper a-arms and the ball joints are severely under designed and failed. the failure is difficult to detect and in early stages manifests itself only by an audible single knock when going over a small entrance ridge such as a garage. the failure appeared at appr. 39,000 miles but it was not acknowledged until the vehicle was out of warranty. *tt | |||

| Tire tread separated from tire and damaged the fender while driving at normal speed. firestone, size p185/65r14, dot# h406jdno79. dealer notified. *ak while driving on the highway the vehicle and steering wheel started shaking. the consumer turned off the a/c, radio and reduced speed to listen and determine the cause. only two exits away from their exit, the consumer heard a thud. he pulled over and saw the right rear fender hanging off to the curb and the right rear tire was bald. all the tread on the surface was gone. he changed the tire, secured the fender with duct tape and went to sears to purchase a new tire. consumer sent the tire to firestone/bridgestone for inspection and compensation. consumer was informed that there inspection showed that the tire was operated for an unknown period of time with insufficient air pressure to carry the load. the insufficient air pressure was evident by the deformation throughout the tire bead area. they concluded that the tire failure wasn't the result of defective materials or workmanship. the tire was returned to the consumer upon his request. the insurance company estimated damages at $902.54. *ph *nlm *tr | |||
