I have a 2006 325i. for the past few weeks has been having an issue with airbag and seatbelt light coming on intermittently. but now it started to stay on and currently my passenger seat airbag is disabled. the mat sensors fail to function. i called bmwna and my vin number was not in the list of vin numbers that were recalled for this issue. it is very common (%75 of this model) to get this problem on this year of 3 series. it was obviously in defected parts list and caused the issue and i am not covered. this is not a wear and tear. this is totally cheap quality part that was put in the car.why? because bmw does not want to cover even it is their fault. i am seriously considering to buy a benz after this kind of cheaply handled issues.

Small crack has developed in the mat on the passenger side of vehicle and the air bag warning lamp is on. nhtsa recall bulletin indicated there was a recall (reference number 08v384000) on the frontal air bags; however, the dealership said my vin number was not listed. called bmw north america customer relations and they said the same thing. i believe bmw should assume responsibility for this repair since they have a recall on over 200,000 vehicles and i am experiencing the exact same problem. estimated repair is $1,500. thank you for your consideration. *tr

The passenger side occupancy seat mat for the airbag failed. bmw has bulletin sib 65 75 06, airbag warning lamp for oc3 seat mat fault, that covers my cars build date, but bmw states my vin is not covered. there is also a current recall, nhtsa campaign number: 08v384000 but bmw states my car is not covered and refuses to honor the 10 year extended warranty. my car is experiencing this same issue, as diagnosed by a local bmw dealers, but they have failed to cover it. this is a major safety issue that is affecting many cars outside of the recall. they are many people posting on various bmw forums that are experiencing the same issue. bmw should be held accountable to fix all the vehicles experiencing this problem.

My car started displaying a warning that there was a malfunction in the passenger restraint system. took it to dealer who said that there was a low voltage issue with my battery and fixed it. 2 weeks later the warning reappeared. this time, when i took it to the dealer, i was informed that there was a defective sensor module in the seats and that the airbags would not deploy in the event of a crash. even though the nhtsa issued a recall for this specific malfunction (nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000), the dealer refused to fix the module under warranty. the cost of this repair was quoted to be $1400 and is out of my budget, and even though this is a noted safety defect that bmw is aware of, they refuse to honor the recall claiming that my car's vin number is not among those covered by the recall. *tr

Our vehicle fails to detect passengers and the airbag turns off. we were told by bmw initially that our passengers were too light, however, we understand that this item has been recalled several years ago, because the seat should detect passengers over 90 lbs, i weigh 115 lbs. anyway, when i called the manufacturer they said our vin was not included in the recall. nhtsa relies on the manufacturer to include vin's in the recall, however, this is an obvious problem that my vehicle should have been included in the recall which is so well documented. we are the original owners and have not sold the vehicle.

The passenger air bag light started going on and off when a passenger is and is not sitting in the passenger seat. the defect is clearly the seat weight sensor that many others have cited. this is a significant safety issue. i called the dealer, and like many others, i was told my vehicle was not covered under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000. the dealer wanted to charge $125 for the diagnosis and $1500-1700 (estimate) to replace the seat mat. all the cost is was going to be the owner's responsibility. mileage is currently 71k. i'm hopeful this compliant helps push the nhtsa and bmw to extend the recall to all 2006 325i models so owners don't have to absorb the high cost of a serious safety and design defect that could lead to a serious injury or death.

I've lately been experiencing an issue with my vehicle where when a passenger sits in the front passenger seat, two icons on my dash come on indicating that safety features are disabled; i get an airbag disable icon in the dash along with the roof lining of my vehicle near the sos button, a text that reads, passenger air bag disabled and is illuminated, indicating that the passenger airbag is disabled. also a 'seat belt' icon shows in the dashboard despite it being clicked in. nhtsa action number: ea08001 thankfully due to nhtsa, the manufacturer, bmwna, was forced to recall a total of 200,000 vehicles with this exact same issue. according to the nhtsa listing, my vehicle is covered under a mass recall of the 'sensor mat' located in the passenger seat of various bmw models to detect when a passenger is sitting on the seat which then triggers the sensor to ready the airbag in the event of an accident. my model 2006 bmw 325i (with sports and premium package) is mentioned in the vehicle list, both by manufacturer make (bmw), model (3-series/ 325i), and specifically the type of seat, being sports package. i have taken my vehicle to the bmw dealership where i purchased it from to get the issue looked at as the safety of myself and my passengers was a prime consideration when purchasing the vehicle in the first place. i was informed by the service advisor that my vehicle was not covered and that i should pay out of pocket or contact bmwna. i've contacted them and they denied me coverage explaining my vehicle does not fall under the recall. i firmly believe that i am being asked to pay exorbitant repair fees to fix basic safety systems despite that my car should fall under the recall as it is experiencing the exact same issues. my car is 'babied' and to be experiencing a failure of safety systems is extremely nerve-wracking. thank you for your time.

A few weeks ago when i was driving with a passenger my airbag light came and all sorts of cautions popped up on my i drive about the passenger air bag and seat belt restraints. later on that day when i did not have a passenger with me everything was fine. now almost every time i have a passenger with me the light comes on. from all the research i have been doing on this was a recall for this same exact problem but only on the early model 2006 325i. so i called bmw usa earlier today gave them my vin and my 2006 325i was not apart of the recall! which i do not understand because the recall should have covered all the 2006 because there were a lot more cases of this happening to even the late model 325i. so is there any way my vin can be added to the recall so i can get this safety issue resolved?

I have a 2006 bmw 3 series that had a defective seat mat sensor. this defect led to the following indications in the vehicle: overhead air bag warning light illuminated, the red airbag light on the instrument panel illuminated, and the system check window (digital display between tachometer and speedometer) indicated a fault with the airbag. there is an active recall on this failure for 2006 3 series with sport seats, campaign number 08v384000. however, my vehicle's vin number is not included on the list that nhtsa and bmw negotiated. bmw has denied my request to fix this problem at their cost. my vehicle is affected by the exact same problem that 200,000 other bmw?s had. there is a precedent for failure with the seat mat sensor. the cost to the consumer to correct this threat to safety is approximately $1400. nhtsa should expand this recall list to cover all vehicles affected by this problem. this is a safety issue and the cost burden should not be passed on to the consumer in this case. *tr

I have a 2006 bmw 3 series that has a defective passenger airbag. there is an active recall on this already. however, my vehicle's vin number is not included on the list that nhtsa and bmw negotiated. therefore, bmw has denied my request to fix this under the recall even though they have acknowledged that my vehicle is affected by the exact same problem that 200,000 other exact same year and model vehicles that are covered under this recall. bmw should have to expand this recall list to cover all vehicles affected by this same problem. this is a safety issue as well and is no different than the events we have seen recently with toyota. *tr

Airbags and seat belt release were suddenly disabled. took the car to the dealer and was notified that the rear lower belt release module (part # 72116975363) had been made non-operational due to a liquid spill on the left side of the rear seat. this caused the entire airbag system and seat belt system to fail. this also short circuited the cable (part #61129130173) bmw states that these parts are not covered under warranty due to outside influences. spills inside the car should not disable and cause a short circuit to the airbag and seat belt security system. *tr

I was driving about 10 mph in traffic on friday, oct. 31, 2008, at 5 p.m., in houston, when my 2006 bmw 325i began smoking in the passenger compartment and burst into flames by the time i got it parked. i first noticed the air conditioner was not functioning properly and then smoke immediately began filling the car. the car was totaled by the time the hfd arrived. the car was in good condition and had no recent service or problems. it had no previous electrical problems. the ac just began blowing warm air, and smoke started pouring into the compartment from above and below the dashboard - not from the ac. the car was running fine until it burst into flames. it had to be a mechanical defect or an electrical short of some kind. *tr

*tr

2006 bmw 325i, vin #wbavb13546pt16835. beginning in 2007 the sensor for the passenger air bag has been off, regardless of the weight of the passenger. current recall states that my model vehicle is not covered for the recall of the front passenger airbag seat sensor mat, but if it went out after only one year it would appear that it, too, is defective. i was never contacted by bmw about a recall since my vehicle is not listed as being defective, but it clearly is. i'm certain that i am not the only 2006 bmw 325i owner that has had this issue, and the recall should be extended to all models, not just the sport seat model. the indicator light indicating that the seat belt is off remains on constantly, regardless of the weight of the passenger.

When an adult is seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, the air bag service indicator, no seatbelt indicator, and passenger airbag is disabled indicator are all illuminated. when taking my vehicle in to the local bmw service center to diagnose the issue, i was told the cause was a faulty passenger seat sensor mat (have documentation), which is meant to detect when a passenger is present. in addition, i was told in my vehicles current state, if i were to get in an accident with a passenger present, the passenger airbag would not deploy. while performing independent research, i found that bmw has released an official recall (#08v384000) which describes these same symptoms, caused by a defective passenger seat sensor mat. in the recall details, the make, model, year and seat type all match the specifications of my vehicle. after discovering the recall information, i contacted bmw of north america representative by telephone. i was told that because my vehicle vin is not on the recall list, the repair must be done at an out of pocket expense. i am filing this complaint because the defective seat sensor reduces the safety of the vehicle passengers, as well as violates air bag regulations established by the nhtsa. since this is a defect, the cost should be covered 100% by the manufacturer, bmw.

My vehicle has the exact same problem that bmw recalled in the nhtsa campaign# 08v384000. the problem is with my front passenger airbag seat mat has cracked. this defect has already been verified by an authorized bmw dealer at my own cost. but for some reason, my vehicle in not one of the 200,000 vehicles in the official recall. so bmw refuses to take care of the problem. i filed a complaint with bmw na but they will not cover this problem. this is a safety issue because my passenger side airbag is now disabled permanently because of this defect.

Air bag sensor on passenger side of 2006 bmw 325i has failed, causing the air bag sensor warning lamp and dash light to stay continuously illuminated. it appears (by a third light above the passenger seat, near the mirror and sun roof controls) that the passenger air bag is disabled. bmw service center (global imports bmw, atlanta ga) claims no recall has been issued for individual car by checking vin #, but problem matches nhtsa campaign id number: 08v384000. research online indicates many other bmw owners with 2006 bmw's have experienced similar issues with the air bag sensor and seems were not contacted for the recall. bmw should extend the warranty to cover all 2006 bmws with this issue.

I own a 2006 bmw 325i. the air bag warning light illuminated on the dashboard. my problem is described on the nhtsa recall id 08v384000 (air bags: frontal). the mileage is approx 43,000. the vehicle has not been repaired. my car falls under the criteria noted on 08v-384 recall notification. bmw says my vin doesn't qualify, however my car still obviously has a problem, and bmw is in denial. i've also noted other complaints on safetycar.gov with similar bmw interactions. bmw is avoiding responsibility, and the nhtsa needs to do more to protect our safety.

Bmw 325i 2006 sedan airbag sensor mat not working properly
02/11/2009830001
It all started on a random day in february 2009 when the airbag and seatbelt light simultaneously came up on the dash of the car. in april 2009 i took the car into the dealership to attempt to get it fixed. the mechanic listed the problem as a passenger front airbag sensor, occupancy detection mat, programming to control units, diagnostic and labor and stated that there were no recalls according to the vin number. afterward receiving the car back, the lights remained off for about a week and then immediately came back on. today, i checked the nhtsa website regarding recalls and under nhtsa campaign id number 08v384000, the same issue occurred in many 2006 bmw 3 series cars including mine. i just recently called the toll-free bmw number to check to see if my vin was included in the recall list but they advised that it was not. reason being: on any given production day in the factory, they may make 100 cars. however, 30 of the cars may use a box of parts that the other 70 did not use. they advised me to get a second opinion at another bmw dealership and attempt to get it fixed. then, if the mechanic feels like it may be the same issue, that i should contact bmw's main office for a case manager. based on the results that the first mechanic stated as an issue and that they are indeed the same issue, it seems that there was vin numbers that should have been included in the original recall list that bmw did not include. i would appreciate your help in investigating this issue. *tr

*tr

My vehicle is a 2006 325 i bmw. air bag light in passenger seat would go on and off. even if there is an adult seating on the seat. now both the airbag light and seat belt light are on at all times. there is currently a recall on some 2006 3 series bmw for the same reason, but my vehicle is not included in the recall.

*tr
