| Defect Summary | Bmw is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2008 r1200 gs motorcycles manufactured between august 2006 and january 2008. the sealing of the fuel pump control unit housing might be insufficient and water could intrude into the control unit housing creating a humid atmosphere. under such conditions, the fuel pump could corrode and then fail. | |||||||||||||||
| Consequence Summary | Failure of the fuel pump will cause inadequate fuel to reach the engine and cause the engine to stop running. a loss of engine power without warning could increase the risk of a crash. | |||||||||||||||

| I was driving down the highway coming home from work, i smelled something burning, i wasn't sure if it was me or another vehicle. i pulled over and noticed smoke coming off my exhaust pipe, more inspection showed it coming from my connection on top of my fuel pump, gas was leaking from the connection and down on to my exhaust pipe. i got it home and started looking into the issue and found many more people with the same problem. this is a very dangerous issue and if it isn't a recall now it should be. i will call tuesday when my local dealer opens. | |||
