Defect SummaryDorman is recalling 979 steering knuckles, dorman p/nos. 697-902 and 697-903, sold under dorman's oe solutionstm brand name, and napa p/nos. 7-8502 and 7-8503 which were sold for replacement use on the various vehicles listed above. a potential material or design defect could result in the steering knuckle breaking in the hub area.
Consequence SummaryA broken steering knuckle could result in loss of steering control and a possible crash without warning.
Corrective SummaryDorman will notify owners and replace the defective steering knuckles free of charge and reimburse the repair facility or owner for labor. the recall began on february 23, 2009. owners may contact dorman's toll-free hotline at 1-800-523-2492.

 Tl-the contact owns a 2006 buick lacrosse. while driving approximately 5 mph the steering intermediate shaft broke. he stated he had no control of the vehicle. he engaged the brake and crashed into the curve. the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. the dealer advised him that the steering intermediate shaft and sir coil had broken on the vehicle. the dealer replaced the intermediate shaft, sir coil and realigned the vehicle. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 40,500 and the current mileage was 41,314. vwb

 Gm 2006 buick lacrosse with front end problem**cc the consumer stated after the mileage was increased on the vehicle, the tires wore prematurely and the shimmy or vibration became worse. the consumer stated the vibration was so severe, that she also shakes while driving the vehicle. steering control has become a safety hazard and the vehicle will float on curves and on flat straight highways. the tires have been replaced several times to no avail. the consumer stated a total of 16 tires had been ordered for the vehicle. *jb

 Tl* the contact owns a 2006 buick lacrosse. while driving 5 mph there was a grinding noise when attempting to make a turn. the noise got progressively worse throughout the day. the dealer lubricated the steering. the dealer stated that the grinding noise was due to the steering shaft. the weather conditions were not a factor. the grinding noise recurred within 4 months. the current and failure mileage was 11,000.
