Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with 4t65e automatic transmissions. these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of fmvss no. 102, transmission shift lever sequence. a retaining clip, which secures the manual valve to the linkage of the transmission detent lever, can become loose under a combination of possible driver shifting maneuvers and allow the link to become disconnected from the manual valve.
Consequence SummaryIf the link disconnects, the driver's indicated prndl state may differ from the hydraulic state of the transmission. if the driver selects 'drive' and the transmission is actually in 'reverse', a vehicle crash could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the manual valve/link assembly with a replacement manual valve/link kit, featuring a spring-type fastener.

I took my 1999 buick lesabre to the local buick dealer, hancock buick-columbia,s.c. for recall work that you listed. my car was perfect before they did the recall work and after they did the recalls my car jumped and skipped between 32 mph and 38 mph. they kept my car for two weeks and when i got it back on oct. 11 they made me pay $282.00 to get my car. general motors have not helped me. they did the recall work you ordered, made mistakes and charge me for the mistakes they made. i would appreciate any help you could give me. my vin #1g4hr52k6xh431566 and my gm file # 1-257816624, i told general motors that the dealer i bought my car from would verify that my car was fine before they worked on it. thank you very much. *ak *sc

Transmission does not drop into 1st gear when auto stops. when accelerating trasmission drops into 1st gear with a loud bang. buick service manager says is pressure valve or electronics controlling pressure valve is the cause. problem is intermittent and, because of this service dept. has been unable to identify exact problem through computer evaluation. service manager states repair will require removal and partial disassembly of transmission to accurately diagnose problem.*ak
