PE07044GENERAL MOTORS CORP.08/16/200712/11/2007POWER SLIDING DOOR OPENING
Odi has received reports that the power sliding doors opened without command while the vehicle was in motion on model year 2005 and 2006 general motors minivans (chevrolet uplander/venture, pontiac montana sv6/montana, buick terraza, and saturn relay).some reports indicate that the door may not have been closed and latched before driving away causing the door to reverse (open) at low vehicle speeds.however, other reports indicate that the door was initially shut then opened after driving for several minutes and/or miles at vehicle speeds between 20 and 70 mph.odi has upgraded this preliminary evaluation to an engineering analysis (ea07-019) to further assess this issue.
EA07019GENERAL MOTORS CORP.12/11/200702/23/2009POWER SLIDING DOOR
Odi evaluated general motors' (gm) data, conducted consumer interviews, inspected and tested my 2005-2007 gm minivans with regard to the alleged defect of a power sliding door (psd) opening while the vehicle is out of park.odi identified a high warranty claim rate.however, these claims are related to various problems associated with doors not properly opening or closing and not specifically to doors opening while driving.the condition of the psd reversing direction during the closing sequence is consistent with an obstruction of the door, or with improper alignment of the door, and this is addressed in gm technical service bulletin # 07-08-64-007 and bulletins # 07-08-64-007a through d.odi's evaluation of the psd system notes numerous safeguards to preclude both unintentional and intentional power opening of the psd while the vehicle is in motion.a safety-defect trend has not been identified at this time.accordingly, this investigation is closed.[see document file for additional information regarding this resume.]

I was involved in an accident and had front end damage. the air bag sensor and light are on indicating that the air bag deployed; however, it did not. we have also experienced electrical problems as well with the van. the sliding door chime comes on randomly when i we are driving. work had to be done previously on the wiring. occasionally i hear rattling noises from the front end of the vehicle when i drive. the van also shakes excessively when approaching speeds over 45-50 miles per hour when i put on the brakes. *tr

Door locks will not unlock, they just click. was able to jimmy front doors but then they would not lock. had baby been in back seats there was no way to get them out without someone very small climbing over the front seat into the far back, very dangerous. on star could not remote open vehicle either. drove to dealership and discovered the remote fob thought it was locking the car and started it. dealership says they have never seen this happen before. *tr

The driver's side power sliding door constantly would lock and unlock while driving. it would also not shut and emit a warning bell even when nothing was obstructing the door. i was told it would cost over $1000 to replace the sensor and that might not even fix it. i finally had the dealer disconnect the automatic door. so we now open and close it manually. this is a safety issue, since the lock/unlock would occur when in drive and due to the number of complaints something needs to be done. *tr

Power sliding doors in the rear fail to close on a repeated basis, often having to try and close them 10 to 12 times. after reading about this known issue and how others vehicle owners have reported the door(s) opening on their own while driving, i felt i needed to report my malfunction with the door sensors. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 buick terraza. the contact stated that the automatic sliding door does not close properly, which causes it to sporadically open while driving at any speed. he took the vehicle to the dealer and a technician reprogrammed the door. five to six months later, the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and they realigned the door. months later, the door failed again. since the first failure, he has taken the vehicle to the dealer seven times regarding the door failure. on each occasion, the engineers have failed to successfully remedy the failure. the manufacturer did not provide any assistance. the failure mileage was 2,500 and current mileage was 81,204.

Sliding driver's side rear door opened while i was fueling the car. my wife pushed the open door button. a very dangerous situation developed as the sliding door slid backwards toward the gasoline hose. i jammed the door with my body and attempted to press the door button but the door kept trying to slide back. i squeezed the handle and yanked the hose out of the gas tank filler. i splashed quite a bit of gas on the side of the car. there should be some safety switch that would prevent the sliding door from operating when the gas tank door is open. my wife was disoriented at the time because of a diabetic sugar low and felt she needed air. i had visions of the sliding door striking the gas hose and starting a fire. the door has a safety switch that prevents it from closing if an object is in the way. but there is nothing to prevent the door from opening even when it is held or strikes something. *jb

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 buick terraza. on three occasions the key fob in the contacts pocket pressed against something and unlocked all of the doors, including the sliding door. the sliding door remains open. the dealer stated that the key fob was operating normally. the current mileage is 4,268, and failure mileage was 4,258.*ak update 05/04/07*tr

Dt*: the contact stated the headlights flickered when the vehicle was driven 0-60 mph. when the vehicle was taken to the sales/service dealer, the problem could not be recreated. the voltage regulator was replaced, but the problem continued. the lights failed to remain bright enough to see well at night. the computer programming was reflashed. the vehicle also had an ongoing issue with the starter, sliding door opening by itself when the vehicle was parked or while idling in park. on one occasion, the child passenger fell out of the vehicle when the door opened. there were no injuries sustained. there was a problem with the steering which resulted in the contact side swiping a mailbox post on the side of the road. at a later date when the vehicle was parked in the garage, the vehicle caught on fire. there were no reports taken by the police or fire department. the manufacturer was notified and the service dealer towed the vehicle back to the dealership.

While driving at night from a field trip with my daughter and her girl scout brownie troop, the stability track system went on in error and i lost control of the car. it went from 40 mph to 5 mph within a second. the steering would not work, either. very, very scary! i contacted onstar in the car and they could not see a problem, but sent a tow truck. the dealership replaced a short-wire and said it was fixed. but could it happen again? also, my automatic doors never work properly. we bought this car for family trips and field trips, but now i'm too scared to take it on trips or field trips thinking that it will happen again on the express way like it did to other terazza owners. we leased it so i can't get rid of it. instead i make a huge payment every month on a lemon. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated the automatic sliding door locked by itself and would not open by the key or power controls. the vehicle was seen by a dealer for replacement of the power door lock motor. although the door lock problem was corrected, the door rattled while driving at various speeds. the vehicle is currently awaiting further inspection by the dealer. *ak updated 5/10/2006 - the vehicle rolled back while on hills. *nm

2005 buick terraza left sliding door would not open either electronically or manually. door later opened while vehicle was in motion. *ts the vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but they were unable to find the cause of the problem. they did update the sliding door module per service bulletin 05-08-64-013 but that did not correct the problem. *nm
