Pulse width modulated tail lights are dangerous. 1) due to the persistence of vision, when i shift my eyes from one object to another, an incandescant tail light leaves a smear across the vision, with the tail lights of a vehicle at the end of the smear. a pwm tail light leaves a cluster of dots, and there is no way to tell which dot is the location of the vehicle. 2) a strobing light draws the eye. emergency vehicles use strobes for this reason. i've had a pwm tail light continually draw my attention to it, although the vehicle is a quarter mile ahead of me, and there are things closer to that deserve greater attention. 3) vehicles that have given me problems are several models of cadillac, the mercury mountaineer, and the nissan murano. 4) pwm tail lights need a much longer duty cycle to be safe. | |||
