Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, an interaction between the sensing and diagnostic module and vehicle's electrical system may cause the driver's frontal air bag and/or roof-mounted side impact air bag to deploy when the ignition key is turned to the on position.
Consequence SummaryA person positioned for driving may receive minor injuries, such as abrasions, from contact with a deploying air bag.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the sensing and diagnostic module free of charge. the recall began on may 20, 2005. owners may contact cadillac at 1-866-982-2339.

 Tl*the contact owns a 2004 cadillac srx. the contact stated that the vehicle has been a safety risk since the time of purchase. the vehicle stalls and shuts down while driving at various speeds. the instrument panel illuminates and the steering wheel locks. the contact can predict when the vehicle is about to stall because the rpms increase. the vehicle was brought to the dealer on five occasions for the stalling, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. the speedometer and air bag sensor light failed . intermittently while driving. the vehicle lunged forward while driving and the electrical system malfunctioned. the contact felt the vehicle was a lemon and that nhtsa should be aware. the current mileagewas 51,000, and failure mileage was 100.*ak

 Airbag deployment when car turned into the on position. injuries in this case none. possible injuries for other people include children sitting in lap when car is started, head close to the steering wheel when car is started, permanent deafness, blindness, or death. this problem has been recalled but not in my vehicle. cause is faulty airbag diagnostic unit which can set off airbags when testing occurs. testing can be conducted on airbags by onstar while car is driving possibly setting off airbag while car is in motion.
