I have a 2005 avalanche that i was driving to work and i started to smell gas in the cab of the truck. when i arrived at work a co worker came over and stated your truck is leaking fluid. i got out of the truck and it was leaking gas all over the ground. i had just filled up the tank and it was a little over 1/4 filled. upon further inspection after the lines dried i noticed a hole in the fuel lines. it looked like it had rubbed together with another line and causing a hole.

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet avalanche 1500. the contact stated while at a complete stop the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrumental panel. the contact then noticed there was a fuel odor coming from the driver's side door. an authorized dealer stated that the fuel lines were crossed above the catalytic converter causing the them to rub and fuel to leak from the fuel lines. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure and current mileages were 132,000. rvk

Driving home i started to smell gas in the cab of the truck. after the truck was parked i found gas on the ground under the engine.when i had a mechanic look at the problem he found that the factory installed fuel lines were touching and had rub a hole in the fuel lines and were leaking gas on the engine also the e85 sensor module was cracked and leaking gas. no fuel line parts were avalible for the repair.i was told not to use the truck as the leak could cause a fire. this to me is a big proplem as their is no worning

With no warning at all my fuel line began to leak profusely. no sensor warnings/lights at all. fuel line was leaking a tremendous amount of gas - leaking to the point i was afraid to leave it parked in my driveway near my house or even out on the street (in case someone walked by with a cigarette). i feel this was an extremely dangerous situation. to make matters worse, my truck has been in the shop for over a week and several chevy dealerships are unable to get the parts from the factory and in some instances are only being told they are backordered with no approximate date of availability. *tr

Vehicle would not start unless the key was turned to accessory position for a few seconds. this allowed the fuel filter to pump fuel to the engine. i have read of another individual having the same problem through the internet. i am concerned of other people having the same problem and needing to spend the money to have it fixed or not fixing it. i have had the vehicle checked and the fuel pump was replaced. fortunately this did not happen while driving, but it seems to be a factory defect that should not have happened. the chevrolet dealer kept the old part. *tr

Filling up with gas on my 2005 chevy avalanche. while filling with gas, with the lock on the gas despener, and watching to make sure it stops, when the gas despenser stops, about 2-3 seconds later gas starts to spray and/or leak out of the gas tank. at first i thought it was just the gas station that i used, but it has occured at mutiple gas stations. i feel this is a major safety concern that should be looked into. the dealer has said that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle, and nothing they can do. *jb
FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER

Fuel lines - 2005 chevrolet avalanche while driving home from work 2/17/2011, i kept smelling gas. since it is a 45 minute drive, the smell did not disappear until i reached home and turned off my vehicle. my son took our jack out to see if we could locate the problem. he found the gas lines soaked with gas under the truck but at that point it was hard to tell if it was what we thought the problem might be; a hole in the gas lines. since the dealers were closed we took the vehicle to the garage first thing the following morning. the smell followed me the same as it did the night before. when the dealer pulled it in the shop, they confirmed our suspicion of what was going on. the original installed gas lines on my truck were crossed for what reason is unknown and they rubbed over time and rubbed a hole in themselves. they are a reinforced braided line. upon doing so, and while the vehicle was running, gas was spraying all over the underside of my truck. the catalytic converter was soaked. the dealer would not allow me to remove the vehilce from their shop under any condition because of the possibility of a fire. they also check all the resources used by any chevrolet dealership and there is not one recall out there for this problem. there are several reasons i am sending this information. one is that after researching on line about my problem i have found many complaints for vehicles of that time frame bursting into flames and gm warranting it off as a short under the dash. gm seems to be taking the vehicle fire issue of some of the complaints i read too slight. my truck could have burst into flames and caused my life and possibly others. even now that our son checked the problem, he was even at risk just trying to see what it was! the other issue is that we have to pay for a problem gm created in the design of the fuel lines. i have pictures we took that night you are welcome to have should this problem be escalated
