Defect SummaryCertain honeywell fram racing brand hp4 and hp8 oil filters that were manufactured from may 25, 2006, through september 14, 2007, and sold for use as replacement equipment for vehicles list above. the affected filters are marked with a date code a61451 through a72571 sequentially. the date code and part number appear on the filter housing. fram racing hp4 and hp8 oil filters not bearing a date code in this range are not affected by this recall. the gasket of the oil filter becomes more pliable under high temperatures and pressures.
Consequence SummaryThis condition may cause inadequate sealing and loss of engine oil, possibly resulting in a fire.
Corrective SummaryHoneywell will replace the affected oil filters free of charge. the recall began during november 2007. owners can contact fram customer service toll-free at 1-800-890-2075.

 While pulling into the entrance lane of a toll booth at 25 mph, unit 1 applied the brakes, however, the brakes failed. unit 1 then turned the vehicle to the left to avoid hitting unit 2 which was stopped at the toll booth. unit 1 went onto the curb and concrete barrier. it then hit unit 2 in the left rear and then hit the toll booth, where it came to final rest. the officer at the scene found that the brake pedal went to the floor with no resistance. the front chamber was completely empty and the rear chamber had barely enough fluid to cover the bottom. no broken hoses, lines could be seen. there were no injuries, ohio traffic crash report. *tt
