Defect Summary	Vehicle description: certain 4-wheel drive pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles equipped with abs (antilock braking system) manufactured from september 1989 through august 1996. under certain driving conditions the switch which signals the abs system whether the vehicle is in 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive can malfunction causing increased stopping distances during abs stops while in the two-wheel drive mode.
Consequence Summary	If this occurred at a time when minimum stopping distance was required, a vehicle crash could occur without prior warning.
Corrective Summary	Dealers will replace or repair the 4-wheel/2-wheel drive switch.

Defect Summary	Severe corrosion due to road salt at the joint of the stamped steel center section and the cast outer section can cause the sections to separate.
Consequence Summary	Separation of the rotor sections can cause loss ofbraking ability in the affected wheel. this could result in increased stoppingdistance and/or loss of vehicle control and an accident.
Corrective Summary	Replace the front brake rotors with new rotors with a corrosion protection coating. however, if replacement of brake linings are necessary, it will be done at owner's expense since brake linings are normal maintenance items.

	Tl*the contact owns a 1992 chevrolet blazer. the contact has been experiencing brake failure with the vehicle. whenever the vehicle comes to a stop, she must exert maximum pressure to depress the brake pedal. the vehicle has not been taken to a dealer. through online research, the contact discovered nhtsa campaign id number 93v119000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:disc:rotor). the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from the recall. she believes that the vehicle should be included in the recall since the failures are identical. the failure mileage was 43,000.

	Tlthe contact owns a 1992 chevrolet blazer. the brake lights illuminated and the vehicle was taken to a mechanic. on two occasions, the diagnosis was that the brake modules needed to be replaced at the cost of $1,000 each time. the vehicle has been to the mechanic at least ten times for the abs. the contact has never received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 99v193000 (service brakes, hydraulic:antilock). the current mileage was 214,856 and failure mileage was 91,721. updated 08/04/08 *bf

	Abs light is on & has been coming on but going off ....was not aware there was a recall til a friend told me to check it after i had a wreck!!!! i now found out that the abs might have had something to do with it...due to my wreck i am going to be seeing a doctor for my injuries .... i was going around a curve when i went to slow down a little bit ...i was going 25...& my truck slid & when i went to turn to go around the curve my truck jerked to the left & i hit a barrier, and now i am unable to drive my truck .... failures: brakes & abs system. *tr

	I received a recall notice from chevrolet approx 3 weeks after my daughter's accident. they have performed testing, but said the tests are inconclusive and deny responsibility. the 4-wd test indicated no prob. but the veh. was not in 4wd at the time of the accident. good weather and road conditions, skip marks indicate to me that the abs did in fact failed or malfunctioned. product liability person is very difficult to contact, but finally got back with me and told me to have the damages repaired, then they will do the recall work on the brakes. if there is no problem with the brakes, then why would they do the recall work? i feel we are being deceived and need help resolving this with chevrolet. the recall notice clearly states there is a problem and it may result in longer stopping distances and possibly a vehicle crash. it sure did. i thank god that my daughter was not seriously injured or killed because of their delay in getting a recall notice out on a 1992 vehicle!!!*ak

	Brake light was on, then a couple of days later received a recall letter from chevrolet for abs brake failure. consumer states after dealer corrected recall, brake light was still on. dealer said theres was nothing they could do about that. *ak

	Nhtsa recall 99v193000 and manufacturer's recall 99041 concerning abs brakes. made appointment, went down to dealer, and no parts available. called back a few days later, and made another appointment. went to the dealer, and still no parts were available.*ak

	Consumer was traveling about 25mph as she was approaching a curb she went to turn, and the steering wheel wouldn't turn. there was a tree in front of vehicle. consumer applied brakes, and vehicle veered over into the grass area, hitting the tree. she called a tow truck which brought the vehicle to dealer's repair shop. a mechanic told consumer that the idle loosened from the frame. *ak
