Defect SummarySignificant wear can develop on the low and reverse clutch preventing the park pawl from engaging. this can prevent a no park condition to occur while the engine is running, causing unintentional movement of the vehicle without operator action. (the no park condition will not occur while the engine is off.)
Consequence SummaryUnintentional vehicle movement could result in a vehicle accident and injury to persons in the path of the vehicle.
Corrective SummaryDealers will check the transmission fluid for contamination which will indicate if the low or reverse clutch is worn. if the transmission fluid shows contamination, the transmission will be replaced.
NotesSystem: powertrain; transmission; automatic.vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and utility vehicles equipped with 4-wheel drive. note: the s series trucks are not included because they are only 2-wheel drive.note: if your vehicle is presented to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and the remedy is not provided within a reasonable time and free of charge or the remedy does not correct the defect or noncompliance, please contact chevrolet service center at 1-800-222-1020; or gmc service center at 1-313-456-4547. also, contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

The vehicle moved backward, on two occasions in 1999, while running and parked on a slight incline. the transmission was fully engaged in park on both occasions. there is a recall for this condition (nhtsa 94v093000), but the recall states that the s-series trucks are excluded because they are only 2-wheel drive. i have contacted chevrolet motor company and hhtsa and have been told that my vehicle is not covered, based upon the vin. however, my s-series blazer is 4-wheel drive, i believe that the transmission fits the recall description, and the problem that i experienced (i.e., the vehicle came out of park while running) is the condition for which the transmission was recalled. i, therefore, beleive that the statement excluding s-series trucks because they are not 4-wheel drive is incorrect and neglects the occurrence of a dangerous condition in the s-series vehicles like mine.
