I've owned this vehicle since new and complained several times to the dealer that the stopping distance increases at slow speeds when the anti-lock brakes take effect. i read in the chicago tribune today that there is a recall for this problem for 1999 to 2003 gm suv's. my question is, was there ever a recall for this problem for 1993 chevrolet k5 blazers and if not is there a chance of getting this problem fixed by gm at their expense considering the age of the vehicle.*jb

Abs brake failure - after going over a bump or railroad track when coming to a stop there is a grinding noise on the driver's side and when brakes are applied pedal will go to the floor. pumping of the pedal will not get the pedal height back. the brake pedal will continue to go to the floor for as many times as i apply the brakes. after vehicle is parked for half a day or longer, the pedal will return to a high pedal and everything seems okay. this condition has happened twice so far. *ak

After immediately purchasing vehicle, consumer complained about the poor braking system, the dealer checked the system and stated everything was ok, a year later consumer complained about the brakes, after having some near collsions and also having a collision with a deer that caused considerable damage, the problem was that no matter how much force consumer applied to the pedal, after the initial application, the vehicle would not change its rate of speed, however consumer later received a recall notification (c99046) on the abs, and the brake module was then replaced, consumer states the brakes seem to have normal braking, but when the brakes are applied the tires leave the road surface, like hitting a pot hole, the pedal drops down about two inches and the braking effect is reduced by what seems about one half the force on the pedal.*jb

Had slowed for an upcoming red light -applied brakes which initially acted as though they were operating properly then suddenly as though there were no brakes. you had the sensation you were speeding up rather than slowing. cranked the wheel hard and hit only the back bumper of the brand new ford explorer in front of us. the brake pads are fine. the vehicle was purchased with 40,000 + miles on it in october of 1994 and has been serviced every 3000 miles , brales replaced when necessary and maintenence done. their was plenty of brake pedal and the failure has occurred two times only. when i contacted the dealer in couer d'alene, idaho (knutsen chevrolet) i was told by the service manager that it must be the master cylinder --not based on any inspection but on the miles on the vehicle) i was told there was no recall or notice. i was later told that there was a problem with the anti lock brakes, by another dealer in yakima, washington, and that they had not been provided with the parts to correct the problem at this date. the brake. *ak

The crash was recent (01/2000), but there have been many close calls. all were unnecessary as the anti-lock brakes on this vehicle have been on recall since july 1999, last year. we contacted the dealer and he said recalls are a process that takes time and to be patient. that was before the accident. the brakes on this blazer, when the pedal is shoved with all your strength will just slow down slowly. we have been very fortunate not to have been injured in this vehicle and gm knows it. i honestly believe that they are hoping people get rid of them so they cqan avoid the repairs, but ours was purchased new by my brotherts with every option and has been excellently cared for. it is in great shape except for the deathtrap brakes. The brake rotor sheared apart between the flange section which bolts to the axle and the outer section which the pads clamp on too. it is my opinion that the casting is defective and the section which failed should retain its structural integrity long after the rotors have worn out due to wear and tear. it appears that the rotors would otherwise have had another 30,000 miles to go before needing to be replaced had the failure not occurred. had this failure occurred on the highway, it is likely that there would have been catastrophic consequences.*ak

Abs breaks give out or don't work. tt consumer tates the brakes fail in wet and rainy conditions, what appears ti happen is when the brake pedal is depressed, the truck starts to slow down as expected, but then a loud sound is heard and the brake pedal goes to the floor and braking abilities cease entirely, the rear brakes seem to lock up and cause the rear end to go sideways, the truck doesnot stop until it has gone past a stop sign, this condition does not happen all the time, but is often enough to be of great concern, consumer sttes he has taken vehicle into dealership but has been told that brakes are working fine, this has happened at lest two dozen times.*jb
