Recall 99i006000/ manufacturer's recall 99046; consumer is having a brake problem. consumer had recall repairs done, and engine check light kept coming on. dealer told consumer to drive it home because the computer needed to be reset. consumer then found that there was a wire lying on the floor. dealer forgot to reconnect it, and that caused engine check light to stay on. dealers had to put back the old part for the brake module instead of the new part because consumer has to get the hydraulic brakes fixed before they could put new part in for the brake module . when the brakes were applied after leaving the dealer, they went straight to the floor & started doing a up& down motion before they finally stopped vehicle from rearending another vehicle. *ak

Your campaign #'s 99v193000 & 99i006000 both list a problem with the abs system that sound identical to the problem i have. whenever i'm braking and i run over any slick surface (for instance: painted crosswalk that is wet from rain) or hit a bump in the road while braking my vehicle makes a loud grunting noise and i lose my brakes. i have called the manufacturer and the dealer and they both said your campaigns does not cover my vehicle, why not? my problem sounds exactley like the description you gave on this web site. in addition to this problem i have another, that may be related to the first problem. i have put new brakes on my vehicle and driven approx. 3-6000 mi. and returned to the brake shop complaining about the first problem only to find out that my brand new brakes are shot. some how this vehicle eats brake pads. i beleive it to be related to the malfunctioning abs system. *ak

Vehicle braking has seemed to be unpredictable. abs will seem to take over when unnecessary under normal braking situations causing unexpected extended braking distance. we were informally told by several mechanics that that is just how abs is so we assumed that it was just a poor design not covered by any warranties for the second owner so we did not pursue it further. in addition, we had a rough running condition that was diagnosed as the egr valve clogged with carbon deposits. the engine idled rough, had a strong odor and had intermittent brake failure (hard pedal) causing it to be very difficult to stop. we had the engine motorvac'd to clear carbon deposits and had the egr cleaned. it ran well for about a week then back to the same symtoms. we were told it would just ruin a new egr if we replaced it again so we have not determined what to do with it. also the check engine light comes on and off throughout these episodes

Right front wheel hub anti lock brake sensor failed. this resulted in the vehicle having no brakes and on two occasions not being able to stop at/for stop signs with near misses each time. as the brakes did not engage the dealers at first thought that the cruse control was not disingaging when the brake was depressed and that this resulted in the car driving itself thru the brakes. but a computer diagnostic check revealed that the anti anti-lock brake sensor was experiancing intermittent failures and that this was why the brakes were not working. dealer mechanics told me that they had no service bulletins for this type of failure. they also said that when the anti lock brakes fail the vehicle should still brake safely with standard brake system. but in this case the defective sensor was causing the system to not brake at all. *ak

Called/ emailed gm and although i had a failure the day after my new brakes were dealer installed and even though i have a blazer in the years recalled i am not subject to the recall. this really upsets me because i could injured someoneon the street on in my car and they continue to pretend that this did not happen. i filed a report w/ you immediately after the incident- brakes put on one day- next day i am, fortunately, making a slow turn as i head to court, cannot negotiate the turn because i have no brakes and slam inton and on top of a fire hydrant. the tow truck driver/ mechanic at the scene and the officer at the scene both depressed the pedal and confirmed what i said. the dealer and gm denied it and- even though there is a major recall- and i am a true victim- am ignored and they are pleased to tell me that my vehicle is not subject to recall. this is garbage and clearly the reason that i will never support gm or any of their product. i am disgusted with this whole process. thank you for your attention to this matter- i appreciate what you have done on behalf of those multithousand of owners who have never had a problem- but it was of no benefit to me. *ak

At low speed, approximately 30mph, i had to stop suddenly. at the first instance of braking the brakes began to stop me. then the brake pedal went slowly to the floor and braking ceased. i rear ended the vehicle in front of me at approximately 10 mph. the abs failed in similar circumstances in march of 1995, also causing a rear-end collision. this incident was also reported to the ntsa as well as to chevrolet. at that time the brakes were inspected by a chevrolet dealers service department. chevrolet made the determination that there was nothing defective about the brakes. this problem does not appear to be constant and is apparently not repeatable on demand. *ak

At approximately 20 mph traffic suddenly stopped in front of my blazer. i had plenty of room to stop, but the brakes locked up and failed to stop our vehicle in time. i found out there may be a recall on the abs brake system and checked your website. the information indicated there was a rpoblem so i contacted chevrolet. i spent over 2 hours on the telephone with them and they said to take the vehicle to my dealer and have them check it. i did so and incurred the expense of an analysis. the dealer found no problem and said that even if they did they couldn't make any repairs until chevrolet sent them the notice on what to do. i guess i am somewhat simple minded, but if the goverenmetn and gm knows there have been problems with something as important as the brakes, why is this taking so long? there was a police officer standing less than 100 feet from where our accident ocurred and he can verify that my brakes did not properly work. *ak

I had problems with abs systemfrom the begining.i had a brake caliper hanging up(drivers side) and continually had premature pad burnout and moments when there was no brakes at all.it was repaired three times.i complained to chevrolet in 1994 about the problems.case # 960151709,i was told, brake pads are not covered.i tld them the problem was more than brake pads, that something was wrong with the system.they ignored the problem. in 1997, while my sister and i were driving,i experienced total brake failure and the vehicle caught fire.we were fortunate not to be on the highway at the time!allstate insurance paid me for the vehicle, but by the time the loan was paid,i was left with nothing!i feel chevrolet should compensate me for my loss and fortunately, no one was injured or killed. *ak

In re: seat belts: the inertia reels on the front belts (both sides) of my vehicle are inoperative 99% of the time. yanking the belts engages the reels only occasionally. the ones in the showroom vehicles engaged every time. research on the web reveals this to be a common problem and that chevrolet is charging almost $300 each to replace the defective units!. inre: the abs brakes: i was towing a boat and had to slow, quickly, for a yellow light turning red. as the abs engaged i lost my brakes and went right through the intersection! the brakes are in great mechanical condition. again, searching the web for information, i am steered to the wheel sensor wires in the front. the word is that the wires are badly routed, subject to damage, and cause loss of braking. there are numerous reports on bulletin boards of costly repairs to the wires following braking system failure! *ak

I bought this car brand new in 1994. i presently have approximately 34,000 miles on my car. since day one, i have complained about the anti-lock brakes. i told my dealer a few times about it, and they made me feel like a stupid idiot by telling me that i must not be using them correctly. well, i do use them correctly, and have since then had several other people try my car. i have actually talked to other blazer owners and they have similar complaints. i even went on the internet and they all complained about the same thing. so i do feel something is wrong with the brakes. while driving my car, on several occassions, i have lost my brakes. for instance, while driving on rt 202 in my neighborhood, i went over a bump in the road while applying my brakes for a red light. the brakes release whereby i then have to lift my foot off the brake pedal and reapply it. then the car stops. in sunny weather, rain & snowy weather, i have applied my brakes and hear a loud grinding noise and my brakes are not working correctly. other times, the brakes work. i am really concerned for my safety as well as others. with low mileage like mine i also have replaced my brakes and even had damage to the rotors. i feel because i am a woman, my dealer has never taken my concerns seriously. needless to say, i have friends who own other brand suv's (jeep & explorer), and they don't have any of these problems! i love this car and i wish the brakes would be recalled so that i would feel safe. sometimes i wish these vehicles didn't have antilock brakes at all. at least then we could control our stopping. everyone i know who has these brakes loves them except for the ones i know who own the blazer s10. please help us and look into this matter. i would greatly appreciate any input you can give us regarding this matter. *akthanks.

*ak

Vehicle description: pickup trucks, crew cabs, utility trucks and sport utility vehicles. these vehicles were built with the polarity of the wiring for the zero adjust brake switch reversed from what was specified on the switch drawing. with the reversed polarity, the contacts in the brake switch can wear out prematurely. the brake switch will perform normally until the brake switch contacts wear out, resulting in loss of the brake lamps without any warning to the driver. this is the same problem i have with my vehicle. plus, the cruise control will not shut-off becase the brake lights are not turned on when pushing down on the brake pedal.
