The car surged and lost oxygen to brakes, etc. i have had exhaust system replaced, new tires, new computer e prom, egr valve cleaned numerous times, new injector unit installed, brakes replaced, total tuneup to try and rectify the problem. i still continue to have to have the carbon cleaned out of the egr valve as the car will not run properly. i purchased the blazer from ricko ent. inc. 16 moulton rd, rochester, nh, 03867.also known as first city motor sales in rochester nh. the owner, richard ottino agreed to cover the cost of repairs but never did. the total of repairs that i have paid to date is $1,266.00. i sent the dealership a certified letter with all copies of the repair bills.

One of the oil cooler hoses came off the crimp causing the vehicle to lose all oil and pressure. vehicle shut down in the middle of a curve, causing owner to lose control of the vehicle (but luckily regain it). engine is a complete loss and will be costing us thousands of dollars to replace. this really seems to be a manufacturer issue, as the crimp method used for this high pressure (and highly important) hose is of a type that does not seem reliable. the shop that is holding our car, pending our decision on what we can do about this problem, has indicated they have had one or two other blazers in their shop in the last year with the same problem occurring - and that they noted at the time that the crimp method, without barbs to give extra grab to the hose - seems to be the contributing factor. i would really like to see chevrolet take responsibility for this manufacturing defect - if the hose had been attached in a reliable method, this problem would not have occurred. this is very dangerous.*ak

4 egr valves (and i have got to put the 5th one on now) in the last 3 years $200.00 each. 2 cmfi units because of the fuel pressure regulator leaking the whole unit has to be replaced $500.00 each. fuel pumps $80.00 each transmission has slipped at different times. cooling is a problem it has never overheated but it would like to in the summer. i am a mechanic and all of my cars are taken care of to the slightest detail but it is not normal to replace this stuff more than a couple of times in the life of a car much less a couple of times a year. *jb

5 egr vlaves replaced, one every year. the cooling sysyem has failed having to be replaced and flushed twice in the last thirteen months and is still making the same noise we have heard for the last year and a half. the fuel injectors have been replaced twice in the last fourteen months ! the rotors have been resurfaced twice, replaced once and we still need to replace the pads every 8-12 months, regardless of milage. the extended warranty is up on this vehicle in one year. my question to chevrolet is who will incur these costs that both gm and the dealer admitted to being product problems !!!!

Gurgling noise detected behind center console of vehicle at approx 60k miles. dealer did not find anything wrong. now at 84k miles, dealer telling me that i need to replace heater core, radiator, and associated components due to defective coolant (dex-cool). this coolant was originally used by chevrolet in 95 and 96 blazers and is now known to break down and result in mud-like substance. risk of over-heating is primary concern. i have found at least 10 other individuals on the internet with similar problems. this is not an isolated complaint. my main issue - chevy did not detect the problem early enough even though given opportunity and now i am faced with a potential safety hazard and $1200 repair. also, their coolant is know to be defective as per my conversation with 2 of their representatives. as a consumer, i do not feel as if i should pay for chevy's mistakes. i am looking to your organization for help in investigating this problem.

We purchased a 95 chevy blazer from a dealer used at the end of october 2002. less than 60 days later, the oil cooler line fell apart and all oil drained from the engine in 30-60 seconds, causing complete engine failure. the vehicle seized up in trafic in a dangerous area and there was not time to drive to a safe area to inspect the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who told us that this was a factory defect and suggested that we contact the dealer as the engine must be replaced. the dealer contacted chevrolet who has declined all responsibility and knowledge of this problem, yet there are numerous consumer complaints about the oil hose. despite the fact that the vehicle was purchased less than 60 days before, we now are facing a repair bill that is half the cost of the vehicle and the dealer's response was too bad.

We've gone through 4 egr valves now. every time we drive for extended highway miles, the valve sticks open causing the vehicle to run rough at low speeds. the vehicle, in a nearly stalled state, hesitates when i accelerate - making a merge into oncoming traffic very dangerous. our vehicle hasn't stalled yet but that's because we avoid driving the vehicle whenever this happens. tapping on the egr valve with a wrench unclogs the valve but it only sticks again the next time we go on the highway. we're afraid that vehicle may stall during an emergency breaking situation.

I have owned this chevrolet blazer for 4 years. 1995 was first year for the vortex engine. i had an expensive repair of the cfi unit in july, 99 and now again 16 months later, cfi unit needs to be replaced along with the catalytic converter. there is also an ongoing problem with the egr valve. chevrolet sent out a notice about problem, and i had my car serviced last march. but, same part was just replaced with a new one. if the valve is sticking the design of the valve should be correced. carbon builds up again in the valve and this will be an ongoing problem. i sent a complaint to chevrolet, but their letter back to me was a note to call the customer service. when i finally got through they said thanks for calling but nothing else. overall, very disappointed with how this company is handling a problem that my mechanic says it is widespread. he has trouble getting the part since so many are needed! *ak

Engine stalls while driving causing loss of steering and braking, the vehicle was towed to dealer but the found nothing wrong. nlm
03/31/199803/01/1998
This is a complaint relating to probable design deficiency as opposed to a component failure. when the fuel gauge is in the red zone, the engine will stall when the vehicle is stopping, turning or attempting to go uphill. this causes sudden and unexpected loss of steering control and braking power. nothing is wrong with the fuel pump or tank, other than the fuel is permitted by the poor design of the tank to flow away from the intake tube when the vehicle is slowing or turning or oriented such that the fuel is concentrated in the forward part of the tank. the engine will restart when the vehicle comes to rest and is on a level or downhill grade. of course, keeping the tank less empty obviates the problem, but there should be no reason not to operate the vehicle when the gauge still registers the presence of fuel. *ak

The engine loses power while driving. i almost hit the vehicle in front of me because i could not stop the car. the vacuum to the brakes is lost. the rpm changes rapidly and the engine sputters. i called chevrolet's customer service center and they had no knowledge of this problem for this make/model. i took the car to the dealership after just bringing in the repair for a recall notice for the abs brake system transfer case switch and vacuum switch repair and they hooked up a computer to the code reader slot and saw that there was problems with the egr valve. the technician gunned the engine a few to times claiming that he was clearing the valve of a piece of stuck carbon. it went away at the dealership but the problem showed up on the road 5 minutes later. they claim that they have seen this problem in numerous s10 chevrolet blazers and they recommend replacing the part. i claim that this is a danger to all 1995 s10 blazer owners and the part should be re-designed to prevent this from occurring if they have so many issues with it. the part by the way cost around $300~400 in the chicagoland area.*ak

You have numerous complaints on the 1995 chevrolet blazer...then why doesnt something be done about this vehicle....? i have been stranded 4 times with my children in the car....3 for the egr valve.. and now it just cranks and wont start....i have had this car for 14 months and this first started in june 1999 3 months after purchasing this car......look at all the complaints......a mechanic stated the egr valve is at a 45degree angle and should be at 90 degree angle so it does not clog.....i am in the process of filing a lawsuit against chevrolet on this vehicle and everyone else should do the same.......it is just an overpriced piece of crap........1 that you cannot count on taking you to town... which is bad......

The nhtsa mandated that gm waranty the legr on 1995 blazers. when my blazer experienced this problem, i took it into the dealer to have the legr replaced. i was told they couldn't replace the parts under waranty because the nhtsa only mandated the warranty for cars with less than 75,000 miles. my blazer had the problem at 80,000 miles. the mileage dictation is ridiculous! this failure is a safety hazard at any mileage and should be repaired regardless!

Vehicle will stall when braking hard if fuel tank has less than 1/4 tank of gas. originally reported to dealer while vehicle still under warranty, dealer said this was 'normal' for this vehicle. the dealer explained that when the fuel tank is low it is possible for the fuel pump to go 'dry' under certain braking conditions causing the engine to be starved of fuel thereby stalling the engine. to date vehicle has stalled a total of five times under these circumstances, i do not feel that it is 'normal' for a vehicle to stall when there is fuel left in the tank. the incident reported here almost caused an accident, i was braking and making a right turn at the time, when the engine stalled i lost power steering and power brakes, this made the vehicle almost impossible to control in the turn. fortunately the vehicle behind me was able to maneuver around my stalled vehicle. *ak

*ak

Consumer stated that while driving and without warning, the egr valve failed, which caused the brakes to fail. dealer notified. *ak the mixing with the fuel was the biggest problem. (when there was carbon build up in the egr valve, it would leave it open and caused no vacuum hard pedal and brake failure. when it rained or was cold the truck ran rough. the service light came on when the vehicle had run rough more than once, noise was present and there was a smell of burnt wires and the ignition switch was replaced, the brake pedal seemed soft on more than one occasion and the master cylinder and other brake components were replaced to try and solve the problem, the cd player had not worked since the ignition switch was changed, the rear windshield wipers had become inoperative, a noise would occur when turning but was not duplicated, and the muffler tail pipe had fallen off and rusted due to carbon build-up. the egr valve was cleaned but the problem persisted. the mechanic stated that in order to perform a proper job, the excessive carbon build up in the upper and lower intake manifold which effected the egr pendel, and the 02 sensor could cause a problem with the exhaust system, catalytic converter, fuel pump, the brakes, etc. the brakes squeaked, there were no dash lights, no air conditioning, and no 4-wheel drive. the fuel injections needed to be checked, and there were two recall stickers on the engine. *scc the rear wiper motor, fuel injectors and brakes were replaced. *jb

The speed control module turned on by itself, and the throttle opened wide. pressing down on the brake did not release the speed control. i was forced to throw the car into neutral (which red-lined the motor at about 4,500 rpm) and shut it off. only on the third restart of the motor did the module release. i was traveling at about 50 mph, and began to accelerate to go up a small hill. the cruise control was not on when this problem occured. the other problem concerns the egr valve. in late 1999, i took the car to a local chevrolet dealer because it was running rough. they analyzed it as a stuck egr valve, and cleaned it. two months later, i get a letter from chevrolet (not a recall notice) stating that my car may have an egr problem. i had to take the car back a few months later, and asked for a new valve to be installed. they refused, as they said they could not be reimbursed by gm anymore. since that time, the same problem has manifested itself 4 times, and each time, the dealer maintains it isn't the egr valve. i believe that this is pure deception on the part of the dealer, and the ntsa should force gm to replace the egr valves asap. the car wants to die in traffic when this problem appears, which is sporadic and unpredicatable.

*ak

In february 1999 i received a letter from chevrolet stating that they are aware of the engine problem causing the egr valve to stick(s), or foreign material holds the valve open or closed. i received this letter after my third replacement of the egr valve. they are not recalling the vehicle, but merely providing a warranty for the egr valve replacement up to 7 yrs./75000 miles. this does not fixed the actual defect of the vehicle. inherently, after 75000 miles the vehicle will still be defective and they are refusing replacement or reimbursement of a defective vehicle. the letter is coded with c98066 above the date. i would be happy to fax a copy at your request. and i will continue to pursue justice from general motors. jeri aanonson. *ak

This is a followup to a previously reported problem. the service lite has intermittently come on onthis vehicle since the 40k range . the egr valve,an injector and various incidental parts were replaced in november,1998 at 78000 miles during two separate service visits . the vehicle again experience identical problems in april 1999 at 84000 miles which include rough running and stalling at slow speeds and the service engine light again coming during the rough running periods. the veihcle was returned to the dealer who first replaced the sensor-ox(part #102) this did not correct the problem and 3 days latter a new egr valve had to be instaled on 4/16/99. due to these repeated problems i feel it is dangerous to drive this vehicle since you never know when the problem will reoccur and the vecle will again stall and run rough, making it an adventure when you are slowing or attempting to merge in traffic.

I received a recall notice from chevrolet motors division and it said that they would repair the egr valve at no charge as long as the vehicle had less than 75,000 miles on it. the faulty egr valve causes the engine to run rough, idle poorly and possibly quit running altogether. we now have over 75, 000 miles on the vehicle and we have contacted chevrolet co. and they said that they will not take care of the problen even though they admit that the egr valve is faulty. this is really a safety issue because when the egr valve sticks, the vehicle brakes do not work and neither does the steering! a rough or poor idle will cause a decrease in vacuum and this causes the brakes not to function. steering is also affected because when the engine does not run, the power steering belt does not move, therfore we lose power steering. my wife has had numerous problems with this and our dealer, and chevrolet motors division admit that the egr valve is at fault. we have had a lot of trouble with this and most of it occurred before the vehicle had 75,000 miles on it. we feel that if chevrolet can replace them in vehicles with less that 75,000 miles on them, they should replace them on vehicles with more than 75,000 on them also since they admit that the valves are faulty.
