 Consumer complaint about 1995 chevrolet blazer design flaw. *bf the transmission was installed but the seal was not replaced because the manual did not state to do so. the vehicle caught fire while the vehicle was in motion. transmission fluid had gone into the transfer case when the seal was no good then had gone into the vent tube was designed, and placed over the hot manifold and exhaust system which caused the fire. *sc

 Abs light came on-brakes started pulsating when not being applied-speedometer started going erratic and engine started downshifting-has contiued to do so since then-contacted chevy-complaint#c05294058-they claimed no recall-i stated this should be a national safety issue-no way to maintain abs system and obvious computer problem-since then i have received a copy of a recall letter for 91-96 blazers with this problem from a friend who has same problem and did receive recall letter-hope you can help me. *ak

 Transmission will slip out of gear causing engine to freely rev with no acceleration. taken to 3 dealers and 1 independent shop with no one able to determine what is wrong. vehicle is only able to hold 2nd gear up to 30 mph before it slips out ,causing the speedometer to drop to 10 and the abs light to activate
 The speedometer sticks intermittently. the only way to tell it's malfunctioning is to knock on the glass of the speedometer or to let off the gas. dealer has not seen. *ak

 Speedometer freezes at 55 to 65 mph and will not move until vehicle stops and then speedometer goes back to zero; also replaced radio/cd player. *ak

 I bought the vehicle new in 95, within the first two years the transmission went out on a cross country trip in the middle of nowhere over a weekend no less. i had to wait till monday for the dealership to open. i was told that the vacuum seal for the reverse casing was thrown into the other gears leaving me only with 1st & i was on an interstate in the middle of a tunnel under the bay when it went out, not a good place to be. i have since rebuilt the tranmission again. yes 2 transmissons. i have had 2 egr valves go out a few hundred $ each time. the transmisson mounts and motor mounts have busted (maybe due to a car wreck but not sure). i have also had to replace the combo switch (for hazards, gear shift, blinkers and wipers) twice and now have to due it for a third time. the part alone is $250-$300. the first two times i had to replace it was for the hazard light button braking. the 3rd time the button broke again (just by turning on the hazards) and i have been getting by without replacing it by taping it down (otherwise the hazards are on 24/7) but know i have to replace it because there was a short in it that make my brake lights stop working when i press on the brake pedal. i also can't count how many times the abs have locked on me. it seems that any time i turn the wheel or hit a bump in the road while braking the abs locks. i have been blessed to have avoided collisions on these cases but not by much. while looking on this site i have found that there has been a recall on the abs brakes and a few other things, yet i have never been notified by gmc for any of the recalls listed here. the only thing i ever received was a recall on the back seat belt which i don't even see listed here. i have found that when ever something goes wrong with my car that it is never a simple thing to fix, it is always a major thing. i think that gmc really needs to take more time in effort to test there vehicles. there's a lot of the same complaints on this site alone.

 On three separate occasions when we were coming to a stop at a light ---- as we pressed on the brake pedal the engine revved up to approximately 2500 rpm. this made stopping the vehicle a lot more difficult & could feel the anti-lock breaks working to stop the car. luckily, there was never a vehicle in front of us in each of the instances ---- but we're not sure if this could eventually lead to a future accident. my confidence with the dealerships is not very high in diagnosing this problem if they can't re-create it or if it didn't sent a check engine light code. they would just charge me for their diagnostic efforts. note: i also recently has high revving problems with this vehicle within the last few months, but they were at start-up & it sent a trouble code. after three trips to the dealership with a iac valve and pcm replacement bill --- they alleviated the problem. this seems to be something else & much more dangerous. *nlm

 4 egr valves (and i have got to put the 5th one on now) in the last 3 years $200.00 each. 2 cmfi units because of the fuel pressure regulator leaking the whole unit has to be replaced $500.00 each. fuel pumps $80.00 each transmission has slipped at different times. cooling is a problem it has never overheated but it would like to in the summer. i am a mechanic and all of my cars are taken care of to the slightest detail but it is not normal to replace this stuff more than a couple of times in the life of a car much less a couple of times a year. *jb

 Transmission failed due to dipstick tube being too close to a/c evaporator core which causes condensation inside dipstick tube. this in turn caused rust inside the transmission causing my transmission to go out. we had to have transmission rebuilt which was very expensive!! mechanic said he sees a lot of blazer come in with transmission failure due to the same problem i had. i think something needs to be done about this. why should i have to pay for something when the problem is due to poor design?!? i've seen several new commercials for chevrolet say we'll be there well i think you should do something about this problem!! it cost me a good bit of money to correct the mistake chevrolet made. something needs to be done.

 Transfer motor failed then the transfer case seal between the transmission failed with no warning or noise. fluid level in the transmission dropped to below the dipstick and damage occured to the transmission and transfer case. drivers sealt belt does not fully retract when released causing it to often get caught in the door. over the past few years the belt shows tears from getting caught in the door. belt will only fully retract if you mannually assist it. *ak

 This vehicle needed 2 transmission replacements. we purchased the car used with 25,000 miles on the odometer. when the transmission failed at 73,000 miles on the odometer, the mechanic that completed replacing the transmission, informed us that the transmission had already been replaced once. the vehicle has had 2 major transmission problems, and the transmissions seemed to fail with only 25,000 to 50,000 miles on them! any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated and i thank you in advance. *ak

 When the windshield wiper fluid is used it leaks into the transmission, causing the transmission to go out. the transmission has been replaced twice. the mileage is 95,000. *ak

 Nhtsa recall 99 v 193 000/manufacturer's recall 99041 concerning abs: vehicle does not stop when brakes are applied, consumer received a recall notice, and was informed by dealer nothing was wrong after test driving vehicle. *ak. consumer also stated that the first problem that she encountered was that the 4-wheel drive did not work, the power booster was replaced, however consumer is still experiencing braking problems.*slc
 While driving at a high speed vehicle will suddenly engage into 4 wheel driving, causing a sudden decrease in speed and jerking. dealer has been contacted.*ak

 The engine loses power while driving. i almost hit the vehicle in front of me because i could not stop the car. the vacuum to the brakes is lost. the rpm changes rapidly and the engine sputters. i called chevrolet's customer service center and they had no knowledge of this problem for this make/model. i took the car to the dealership after just bringing in the repair for a recall notice for the abs brake system transfer case switch and vacuum switch repair and they hooked up a computer to the code reader slot and saw that there was problems with the egr valve. the technician gunned the engine a few to times claiming that he was clearing the valve of a piece of stuck carbon. it went away at the dealership but the problem showed up on the road 5 minutes later. they claim that they have seen this problem in numerous s10 chevrolet blazers and they recommend replacing the part. i claim that this is a danger to all 1995 s10 blazer owners and the part should be re-designed to prevent this from occurring if they have so many issues with it. the part by the way cost around $300~400 in the chicagoland area.*ak

 Brake linings had to be replaced at 30,000 miles and just about every 30,000 miles after that. the rear end went out at about 72,000 miles and had to be replaced at a cost of about $1800. we were on a trip from kentucky to alabama on june 23,2000, and the power brake booster went out. we were forced to travel with brakes that sounded like there was a horrible air leak every time you applied them, and the pedal went to the floor. the abs light had come on in june, 1999, but we had recently paid $1800 for replacement of the rear end, and were told that our regular brakes would do fine, so we waited. when we heard that a recall had been called on that abs system we called the dealer numerous times, but they always said that they hadn't received any information from gm about it yet. we finally got a recall notice in the mail about 2 weeks ago, almost a year after it was announced. when the rear end went out, we had been hearing a strange rumbling noise that got progressively louder. we took the car to severral local mechanics, but they couldn't find anything wrong. after a few weeks we took it to the dealer and they had to replace the whole rear end. now it is beginning to make the same sound, and they will check that tomorrow. they took my car today to check the brakes and said that the power brake booster was bad and the master cylinder was bad. that alone will cost over $700. they said that the whole abs module was bad, and if we want that fixed it will be about $1000 dollars more. if they decide that the rear end is bad again, that will add another $1800 dollars again, i guess. this vehicle has been driven mainly by me and my husband (51 & 52 yrs old)-- around town and on the highway to visit our kids and pick up grandkids. it has not been misused, and has had all maintenance work done. *ak

 The truck was making a cluck during left turns from the drivers front tire, i took it to sears for inspection and they could not find any problems but did say that the ball joints (all four) were going bad and needed replacement soon. i took it to the dealer where purchased for another inspection and they said the sound was due to the ball joints (cost to replace=$700). i had the ball joints replaced...the truck still makes the sound and in addition, now makes the cluck when turning right in addition to left. at the same time, i had the mechanics inspect the drive train due to a grinding sound that is getting worse and changes with speed. they determined that the rear differential is bad and will need to be rebuilt/replaced in the very near future (at a cost of about $1000).*ak

 While driving vehicle caught on fire. investigation showed that fluid was overflowing out of the transfer case and traveling to the catalytic converter and exhaust system.*ak the fluid overflowed to the hot manifold and exhaust system causing the fire. the consumer stated that the transmission was replaced and the seal that connects the transfer case was not replaced. the consumer stated that when the flammable liquid from the transmission went into the transfer case the seal gave way. the consumer stated that the placement of the vent tube over the hot exhaust is a dangerous design flaw and should be recalled due to fire hazard. the consumer stated the seal was replaced and she was overcharged. the consumer would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the repair. the consumer stated that if she does not hear the public address of this problem on the news she will take the issue to the news wire personally. *tc
