Problem is with braking system. intermittent brake failure which has turned in to be a major safety issue. gm is not cooperating stating they have no idea what the problem is, accept that they have been able to duplicate the problem. they failed to have a sensor on the vehicle when duplicated and told us there is nothing that they can do. we have been without use of the vehicle for two months since it is unsafe to drive. we've been advised to wait for a potential recall but have not been told when that might be. in the mean time gm is being highly uncooperative and fail to acknowledge any pending recall. i have researched this and have found that they are facing a potential 3.5 million vehicle recall for my vehicle's specific problem. can you please give me any advise on this?

I have been plagued with constant brake problems on my '95 blazer. it has been in the shop since i purchased it over 10 times for the brakes alone. i recently heard about the brake recall warning issued by you (nhtsa) and immediately called ed morse chevrolet and spoke with a service manager. he advised me your report was false and you are re-issuing a statement to the contrary. he told me the warning had nothing to do with my particular blazer and that i would not be included in any recall or warning presently. my brakes have been a nightmare for me, i am afraid of braking system, but have no choice but to drive the vehicle. i had my attorney write a letter to ed morse, to no avail. i finally went to an outside mechanic who attempts to keep me safe by regularly checking my braking system. what i would like to know is am i included in this recall alert 99v193000 or nhtsa campaign number 991006000? any help that you can give me will be so appreciated. thank you..francesca bealert

Since the vehicle was purchased the brakes have been soft. the brake system and pads have been found to be o.k.. in december the brakes failed and a collision occured. my mechanic feels the brake failure is due to a faulty abs. i heard on my local news station there had been a recall on the abs in my vehicle. i contacted my dealer, but they said there had not been a recall. i would like any info on the recall or class action suit.

I have reported this vehicle in the past to chevrolet and nhtsa. several problems with the braking system, abs are the major complaints and also the power locking system for the doors. after an accident in december 1997, due to faulty brakes and abs not stopping the vehicle the dealer said there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. then he made repairs to the braking system where the dealer said he replaced the rotors and the brakes in january of 1998. even after he made these repairs the brakes and the abs was still not working i returned to the dealer and he said there still was nothing wrong until it happened when i had the repair manager in the truck with me. mr. wallace of warnock chevrolet of morristown new jersey siad then that he was 110 percent sure there was something wrong. this is after the fact of the many attempts prior to trying to get them to fix this problem before the accident of december 1997 occurred. in july of 1998 after several months of having problems i went to another dealer who told me that the same repairs had to be done. he also said i needed a tune up, which i only had in may of 1997 by warnock. this truck has had numerous complaints on the the abs and the braking system, and power door locks not operating correctly. i think it is about time the government did something before someone gets killed. i also believe warnock chevrolet is a disreputable dealership. i demand an investigation. work on this vehicle for the brakes has occurred 3 times in its vehicle history.

Took 95 blazer in for a standard brake job. upon going home from work in the heat of the day, my brakes were locked up. i could not push down the brake pedal at all. almost hit 3 cars before able to pull over and call a tow. was told they put on the wrong brake pads and shoes and they were replaced at no charge. two days later, (things seemed ok), i was driving in the mountains of colorado (hwy) and turned off to a curving steep road. all of a sudden i had no brakes. i could not push down on the bake pedal at all, again. i stoped the vehicle by downshifting and finally, the emergency brake. 5 minutes earlier and i would have been on a major curvey highway, packed with saturday travelers. i calmed down and within a few minutes i had brake pedal action and my friend drove the car back to the shop knowing we did have emergency brakes. the mechanic couldn't believe it and checked everything that could be associated with a brake problem and replaced my master cylinder at no charge. he kept the vehicle 2 days and drove it to make sure everything was ok. he had no problems. i got the vehicle back, assurred that everything possible was checked out and nothing could be found wrong. the following day, i drove to work and on my way home, again in the heat of the day and about 20 minutes into the drive, my brakes failed for the 3rd time in 8 days, again with absolutely no pedal movement. i stopped using my emergency brake in 6 lane traffic going 40+ mph. the car was towed back to the mechanic. absolutley everything checks out including the abs system computer sensors. i will never drive this vehicle again and am absolutely terrified of it (3 failures in 8 days). it is sitting in my garage because i don't (and the mechanic) have no idea what could be causing this. i cannot sell it as is and desperately want this fixed.

The car surged and lost oxygen to brakes, etc. i have had exhaust system replaced, new tires, new computer e prom, egr valve cleaned numerous times, new injector unit installed, brakes replaced, total tuneup to try and rectify the problem. i still continue to have to have the carbon cleaned out of the egr valve as the car will not run properly. i purchased the blazer from ricko ent. inc. 16 moulton rd, rochester, nh, 03867.also known as first city motor sales in rochester nh. the owner, richard ottino agreed to cover the cost of repairs but never did. the total of repairs that i have paid to date is $1,266.00. i sent the dealership a certified letter with all copies of the repair bills.

Consumer stated that while driving and without warning, the egr valve failed, which caused the brakes to fail. dealer notified. *ak the mixing with the fuel was the biggest problem. (when there was carbon build up in the egr valve, it would leave it open and caused no vacuum hard pedal and brake failure. when it rained or was cold the truck ran rough. the service light came on when the vehicle had run rough more than once, noise was present and there was a smell of burnt wires and the ignition switch was replaced, the brake pedal seemed soft on more than one occasion and the master cylinder and other brake components were replaced to try and solve the problem, the cd player had not worked since the ignition switch was changed, the rear windshield wipers had become inoperative, a noise would occur when turning but was not duplicated, and the muffler tail pipe had fallen off and rusted due to carbon build-up. the egr valve was cleaned but the problem persisted. the mechanic stated that in order to perform a proper job, the excessive carbon build up in the upper and lower intake manifold which effected the egr pendel, and the 02 sensor could cause a problem with the exhaust system, catalytic converter, fuel pump, the brakes, etc. the brakes squeaked, there were no dash lights, no air conditioning, and no 4-wheel drive. the fuel injections needed to be checked, and there were two recall stickers on the engine. *scc the rear wiper motor, fuel injectors and brakes were replaced. *jb

I have had extreme braking problems that are still not fixed. under normal city driving conditions, brakes are very slow to stop regardless of how much pressure i put on them and occasionally lock up. i must release the brake pedal and pump it to catch so the car will come to a stop. 2 months ago, a woman stopped at the last minute in front of me. i hit my brakes with more than enough room to stop (2-3 car lengths). they locked up and made their normal grinding noise. i hit her car causing damage to both vehicles. last month, while trying to slow down to pay at a toll booth, i had to literally stand on my brake pedal to stop the truck. the toll booth attendant jumped out of the booth in fear that i was going to crash. the same thing happens coming off the highway at 45 miles per hour. i can't get another vehicle, but this one is going to kill my children and i. i have replaced the booster, pads twice, rotors, and the thing attached to the booster. have i missed a recall? help me!!*jb

Initially replaced egr valve in 1998, have replaced it 4 additional times (by chevy dealer) within two years. build-up of carbon in the engine causing stalling, shaking and failure of engine in traffic. brakes tend to stick as well. erroneously charged for two fuel injectors that were not needed due to misdiagnosis of problem. car has sat for last 3 weeks while attempting to contact chevy customer service at hq, was given promises of refunds, call backs and have not heard from anyone. looked at this site and saw other owners with same problem, possible recall but we were not notified by the dealer or chevrolet. in addition both rear seat belts stopped working nearly two years ago where our young son often sits. seeking possible legal action for reimbursement, replacement of vehicle or final repair of defects.

Egr valve failed once at 54052 miles. owner paid for repair. a few months later chevrolet issued a recall for egr valve and reimbursed owner for cost of repair. 17719 miles later, at 71771 miles the egr valve failed again. dealer and manufacturer both refused to accept any responsibility for installation of a faulty part, claims they have fulfilled their responsibility of recall. anti-locking brake s ystem has failed, abs light on dash illuminated while driving. dealer inspects and states electronic brake control module has failed. a $1,600 repair is expected. owner complains and has questions regarding performance of entire braking system. owner had expressed problems and concerns with brakes while vehicle was still under warranty, dealer ignored complaints stating problems were the nature of the beast. brake problems include, new pads at 25000 mile intervals, second set of rotors at 70722 miles, hard and stiff brake pedal, soft or slow response of brakes to pedal pressure, delayed response of brakes, abs system engaging at inappropriate conditions. while vehicle was under warranty dealer did not address complaints or problems, now dealer and manufacturer claim vehicle is too old and with too many miles for them to consider any responsibility. dealer claims there are no safety issues involved with braking system failures and poor performance.*ak

The engine loses power while driving. i almost hit the vehicle in front of me because i could not stop the car. the vacuum to the brakes is lost. the rpm changes rapidly and the engine sputters. i called chevrolet's customer service center and they had no knowledge of this problem for this make/model. i took the car to the dealership after just bringing in the repair for a recall notice for the abs brake system transfer case switch and vacuum switch repair and they hooked up a computer to the code reader slot and saw that there was problems with the egr valve. the technician gunned the engine a few to times claiming that he was clearing the valve of a piece of stuck carbon. it went away at the dealership but the problem showed up on the road 5 minutes later. they claim that they have seen this problem in numerous s10 chevrolet blazers and they recommend replacing the part. i claim that this is a danger to all 1995 s10 blazer owners and the part should be re-designed to prevent this from occurring if they have so many issues with it. the part by the way cost around $300~400 in the chicagoland area.*ak

Brake linings had to be replaced at 30,000 miles and just about every 30,000 miles after that. the rear end went out at about 72,000 miles and had to be replaced at a cost of about $1800. we were on a trip from kentucky to alabama on june 23,2000, and the power brake booster went out. we were forced to travel with brakes that sounded like there was a horrible air leak every time you applied them, and the pedal went to the floor. the abs light had come on in june, 1999, but we had recently paid $1800 for replacement of the rear end, and were told that our regular brakes would do fine, so we waited. when we heard that a recall had been called on that abs system we called the dealer numerous times, but they always said that they hadn't received any information from gm about it yet. we finally got a recall notice in the mail about 2 weeks ago, almost a year after it was announced. when the rear end went out, we had been hearing a strange rumbling noise that got progressively louder. we took the car to severral local mechanics, but they couldn't find anything wrong. after a few weeks we took it to the dealer and they had to replace the whole rear end. now it is beginning to make the same sound, and they will check that tomorrow. they took my car today to check the brakes and said that the power brake booster was bad and the master cylinder was bad. that alone will cost over $700. they said that the whole abs module was bad, and if we want that fixed it will be about $1000 dollars more. if they decide that the rear end is bad again, that will add another $1800 dollars again, i guess. this vehicle has been driven mainly by me and my husband (51 & 52 yrs old)-- around town and on the highway to visit our kids and pick up grandkids. it has not been misused, and has had all maintenance work done. *ak

#1 - failure of antilock brakes to stop car. this has occurred on multiple occasions and under a variety of conditions and speeds. most frequent at low speeds and on wet roads. when i step on the brakes they make a clicking or chattering noise the car slows as if to stop then lurches forward another 5-8 feet. i have complained to the dealer i purchased it but they were never able to duplicate the problem. no mention of the ongoing investigation. blazers and jimmy's are also subject to excessive front brake wear. after replacing my front brakes 4 times and contacting dealerships i was told to expect to replace my front brakes every 12-18,000 miles. when i questioned this approach they said the brakes were changed in 1997 to address the problem. questionl: could excessive front brake wear be linked to the abs problem. if brakes think car is in 4 wheel drive wouldn't they apply more pressure to stop than if in 2-wheel drive. another possible link is the excessive brake dust which accumulates on the front tire covers. never seen this on any other model. i certainly hope that your investigation into the abs problems can be extended to evaluate the entire braking system in these cars. when i called chev. customer service to ask when the abs recalls would begin they claimed that they didn't know and that it really wasn't an official recall yet. #2 - coolant mixed with transmission fluid in area of radiator, caused transmission fluid to be dumped, major damage to transmission & radiator. dealer covered because they have seen this problem before. isn't this worthly of a recall? how many people have paid for major repairs caused by this defect. how long can i trust my transmission which was repaired not replaced? can this happen again?

Have had major engine problems since first year of ownership. had to replace battery 3 times (first time within first year), have been stranded because of a no-start problem 6 times since purchase, dealer and two other mechanics cannot find cause, brakes have a very poor performance and must be replaced frequently, fuel pump replaced, ignition replaced, now the engine has blown all on a vehicle that has been properly maintained and not abused. this is the most unreliable, costly, stress-cuasing vehicle i have ever owned and i would like chevrolet to take some responsibility for a very poorly built (lemon) car. *ak

Vehicle will stall when braking hard if fuel tank has less than 1/4 tank of gas. originally reported to dealer while vehicle still under warranty, dealer said this was 'normal' for this vehicle. the dealer explained that when the fuel tank is low it is possible for the fuel pump to go 'dry' under certain braking conditions causing the engine to be starved of fuel thereby stalling the engine. to date vehicle has stalled a total of five times under these circumstances, i do not feel that it is 'normal' for a vehicle to stall when there is fuel left in the tank. the incident reported here almost caused an accident, i was braking and making a right turn at the time, when the engine stalled i lost power steering and power brakes, this made the vehicle almost impossible to control in the turn. fortunately the vehicle behind me was able to maneuver around my stalled vehicle. *ak

In march, my son was on the on ramp about to get on i-65 in indianapolis, when everyone started breaking for a car who had ran out of gas. he brake, but he slid into the back of a semi driven by johnny deaton. this collision did $992.00 to our vehicle. we had the vehicle fixed at a cost of $ 492.00 (we had $500 deductible) at the end of may, we received a recall notice from chevrolet sites the longer stopping distance required when breaking is due to a malfunctioning switch. my question is this--- should chevro;let be responsible for compensating us for this accident? thanks, steve schrink

*ak
