Tl*the contact owns a 1996 chevrolet blazer. the contact stated that the air conditioner would not function. in addition, the radiator hose was leaking and the vehicle was taken to a repair shop for inspection. the contact was informed that there was a crack on the block (heater core) of the radiator. the radiator hose was leaking at the connection of the hose. the vehicle also overheated at times, in which the mechanic stated that this failure was included in nhtsa campaign id number 06e043000 (fuel system, gasoline). the dealer refused to perform the recall repair because other work needed to be done at the contact's expense. the current mileage was 169,123 and failure mileage was approximately 165,000. updated 09/15/08 *bf the consumer stated brown sludge was found in the radiator. updated 09/18/08. *jb

Shortly after i purchased my 1996 chevy 4x4 blazer, the air conditioner stopped working. after getting this serviced, and not using it during the winter months. i took it in to have it checked again and was told the condenser was bad and would have to be replaced. this has not only happened on this vehicle, but also on the chevrolet truck we had owned before. while talking with the mechanic he said that he has work on lots of chevys with trouble in the condenser. i think this matter should be researched and taken care of. *jb

At approximately 46,000 miles, the air conditioning in my blazer died. the condensor, etc. all need to be replaced. my independent dealer relayed to me that he has had three 1996 and a 1997 blazers in for a/c failure in the last 6 months. he says it is due to cheap parts. *ak

I replaced all of the front ball joints, after 60,000 miles. as a result of the ball joints going bad it messed up my tires, so i had to get new ones. the ac compressor is making really lous noises, it sounds like it is defective bearings, on the front of the compressor.*ak

We recently purchased this 1996 blazer and due to it being used we are without warranty. the windshield wipers sometimes do not come on and when they are working they sometimes stop in the midst of a rainstorm. this is extremely dangerous and has caused us on more than one occasion the need to stop driving for our safety and other motorists. the air conditioner is hit and miss just like the wiper, but thank heavens this is not a safety issue only a comfort issue.
