Dt: this was the second complaint consumer filed on same issue on same vehicle. this was the second time vehicle had malfunctioned, and consumer did not have the odi number for the original failure. consumer stopped at a red light with vehicle in drive engine rpms red lined and brake pedal went to the floor. vehicle then started pulling away and going through red light. consumer pulled vehicle into park and vehicle stopped moving, and engine red lined until it stopped on its own after about two seconds. consumer tapped the gas pedal a few times with vehicle in park and vehicle went back to normal idle. when this happened consumer was not in the same place as the last time but vehicle acted exactly the same as last time.*ak

This is my second report for the same problem in the same vehicle. the first occurrence was in may, 2001. (see odi id 561620) the most recent occurrence was 1/25/02. in this case, i was driving 30 mph and accelerated slightly to change lanes. as soon as i pressed the accelerated, it depressed to the floor of the vehicle, causing a dramatic increase in speed. i pressed the brake, but it was rock-hard and did not depress one bit. remembering the previous occurrence, i shut off the engine and coasted to a stop. only after i reached a complete stop did the brake pedal depress for me. i restarted the engine and it ran smoothly, so i drove to the nearest parking lot and inspected the ccruise and accelerator cables. they were clean and in no way kinked or appeared to have stuck for any other reason. the last time this happened, i drove to a local service shop, where my intelligence was questioned and the whole incident dismissed as driver error. took the vehicle to the dealership shortly thereafter, and was told that since they could not duplicate the problem, they could not fix it. i fear that i am stuck with an otherwise nice, low mileage deathtrap. it is the primary means of transportation for (pregnant) me and my 4-year-old. must one or all of us be injured or die for this to be taken seriously? if i choose to sell it, i certainly feel a moral obligation to let any potential buyers know what has happened. please help me! and this time, please send the signature form (i did not receive one last time) that allows you to report this to the dealership and manufacturer. *ak

Transmission was slipping out of gear when accelerating from stop or rpm's will rev high, but vehicle will not move as fast as it should. consumer took vehicle back to pontiac dealer where vehicle was purchased, and was told a power train control module needed to be replaced. advised consumer to go to a chevrolet dealer to perform repair because it still fell under manufacturer's warranty. consumer took vehicle to chevrolet dealer, and was told a tsb was issued for a harness jumper kit which was causing the defect. chevrolet dealer did not inspect vehicle to determine if that was the actual cause.*ak

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL - ACCELERATOR PEDAL

While driving 55 mph downhill on wet pavement, the accelerator suddenly depressed to the floor. my foot was on the pedal lightly at the time, and the pedal moved from beneath my foot. i attempted to apply the brakes several times, but the accelerator had apparently overriden them. my speed was nearing 90 mph when i resorted to turning off the engine, and coasted to a stop on the highway shoulder. this sequence of events spanned about 20 seconds. as the vehicle neared its stop, i heard the accelerator pop free. with the engine off, both petals then seemed to depress normally, so i drove to the nearest automotive repair shop. all appeared to be normal under the hood at that point. i contacted gm about the problem, and though they expressed sympathy, they told me that because there were no injuries or property damage, there was nothing that i could do. i was extremely fortunate that my young child was not with me, that the roads were not icy (it had recently snowed), that there was no nearby traffic in the vicinity, and that i did not panic. i was, however, scared out of my wits. this situation occurred several months after our local gm dealership performed abs recall maintenance on the vehicle, and i cannot help but wonder if the two events are related. i have noticed that other consumers have experienced similar problems in the recent past. please let me know if you are seeing a growing pattern, and if gm plans to take any action. this is my winter vehicle; it has only 24,000 miles on it and i now fear getting behind its wheel, especially under adverse winter conditions.*ak

Accelerator pedal sticks in idle position. it seems to be worse the first time the pedal is pressed after the engine is first started. however, since 5 months have elapsed since the problem was first noticed, it seems to stick now almost every time the pedal goes back to the idle position. it feels as though something is holding the accelerator in the idle position, as if it is snagged on something. after you apply extra force to overcome the sticking, it travels smoothly with no other snagging. a co-worker owns a 1997 blazer and is having the same problem. i have driven at least 2 different company vehicles which were 1998 and 1999 model gm minivans with a similar sticking accelerator. all of these vehicles, including mine, stick only in the idle position. the problem results in the driver having to use excessive force to accelerate from a stop and thus it is difficult to keep from gunning the engine when starting from a stop. *ak
