Defect Summary	On certain minivans, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles with certain model-engine combinations, the windshield wiper motor may fail due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. the windshield wipers could work intermittently or not at all.
Consequence Summary	If this were to occur during bad weather, driver visibility would be reduced, which could result in a crash.
Corrective Summary	Dealers will replace the wiper motor circuit board and cover. owner notification began on june 19, 2003. owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, gmc at 1-800-462-8782, or oldsmobile at 1-800-442-6537.

Defect Summary	Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, 2 and 4-wheel drive. solder joints near the wiring harness connector can crack causing the windshield wipers to work intermittently.
Consequence Summary	This condition can result in inoperative wipers, reducing a driver's visibility, and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Corrective Summary	Dealers will replace the wiper motor circuit board and cover.

	This cooling system failure has resulted in my having to replace the heater core and hoses as well as the radiator due to the amount and thickness of the corrosion/rust inside. the system will have to be flushed...chevy is aware of this issue as referenced by their repair bulletins...the extend and cost of the damage is understated.... im out of pocket $1400 to replace a radiator a heating core and other component due to not being notified sooner about the possibility of the problem occurring and thereby having the vehicle inspected for the probably issue!

	After recently buying this vehicle we noticed the air coming from the vents was not exactly warm. took it to be repaired and was told it was probably a thermostat problem since the vehicle was so new. unfortunately, it ended up being the heater core(which from what i am hearing is extremely rare for a vehicle of this age).*ak

	Heater stopped working. consumer took vehicle to dealer, and dealer said that heater core was clogged from antifreeze because coils were too close together. dealer kets flushing out the system. please provide any further information. *ak

	Dexcool in radiator cooling system had turned to a rusty sludge. had coolant flush done at 60,000 miles by the dealer. had dealer reinspect vehicle as i was going on a long road. i have copy of 27 point inspection stating my vehicle was in good condition with no noted problems. 261 miles later i was stranded in the desert with a plugged and blown radiator and heater core. the radiator cap was completely rusted. the fluid in the overflow tank was a rusty brown thick mess. the hoses going into the radiator had to be replaced due to a coating of rust on the inside. i had a new radiator put on, new hoses, and the radiator and engine block reflushed, new coolant added and overflow tank washed. 1,500 miles later (to the current mileage i am at now) the dexcool fluid is already discoloring and particles of rust are starting to reappear. which tells me the corrosion is deep inside the system. gm will not acknowledge a problem of rusting and corrosion, dealer will take no responsibility for their work or inspections. gm never warned the consumers that this had to be carefully watched or major engine damage would occur. gm has a training video that was sent to dealers that specifically deals with the dexcool corrosion problem. it is called gm training video understanding radiator cap and cooling system contamination. they are claiming the radiator caps may have a problem properly sealing the radiator thus causing high evaporation and thus contaminating the cooling system. if they are aware of this why was the consumer not informed? how can gm not take responsibility for the damage that is being done to a large amount on their vehicles. they also claim that the radiator design on certain types of their vehicles make them more prone to the corrosion contamination, such as the blazer, jimmy, st pickups, camaros. that is why not all gm products that were delivered originally with dexcool has had a problem.

	Radiator and engine completely flushed, cap and thermostat replaced due to mud in system.dealer told me mud was actually metal and sand left in engine block during the production/milling process. 1 month after flush the system is clogged again with this mud. dealer saying another flush is needed along with possible water pump and heater core replacement. dealer and other local car maintenance companies said they have seen this many times in these blazers. this is obviously a problem gm should be held accountable for.

	Brake failure. brake work done several times including recall of abs. which is not included in repair cost. the vehicle was involved in an accident on july 9 2002. the brakes failed without warning at slow speed on surface street resulting in a three car collision one vehicle was totaled. accident costs not included. minor injury to drivers of two of the vehicles. contacted gm and was told that recall work had been done and so would not take any responsiblily etc. vehicle has been parked since as unable to verify what actual problem is. brakes failed again when the autobody repair shop took it in for brake check prior to returning to us.

	I had to replace the front brakes and get new rotors after 30,000 miles. brakes are very loose, takes a lot of pressure to get them to stop. dealer said my brakes were worn out, and needed to be replaced just 15k miles after the first service. anti-lock feature kicks in when i drive over potholes or ice, and did not use the brakes. also, windshield wiper problem. wipers stop working intermittently. dealer replaced the motor. dealer said motor had shorted out, but the problem started to occur again. when the wipers stop and later start, after manipulating the controls, the overhead digital temperature guage turns off and on. power window stuck in down position. has been replaced twice. these three electrical problems (wiper, window, digital guage) seem related as they all cause a battery drain as indicated through the volt meter. battery went dead after 6 hour road trip. approx 50k miles on vehicle at time. had been running the a/c the whole time, which seemed to drain battery. *ak

	In 15 mos. this car has left me more than all others together !!! have lost thousands of dollars in income . most unreliable unsafe car i've ever owned . i see hundreds of people in my feild of work and i tell them all not to get a blazer !! it can't stay on the road and the co. is unwilling to help . very unhappy with the product and handling of complaint. read e-mail sent to get the jest of problems this car has had . if my daughter or i die as a result of this faulty car you can be assured you will be sued !!! i've tryed to let someone know since 1-2 mos. after purchase that it was a problem . to no avail chevy does'nt care !!!!!

	When rolling up the power windows on both sides, the window does not line up with the door, instead the window raises up on the outside, past the tracking.

	There are several different issues with this truck: 1. the wheels are making a squeaking noise while driving; replaced brakes, rotors, had tires rotated, balanced and new alignment done with no help 2. brakes go to floor while braking..this just started 3. back windshield wiper makes a loud noise and doesn't work...ever! 4. seat control gets stuck and won't move 5. no reverse light(s) and cannot figure out issue 6. final and biggest issue is that all the lights (including headlights) flicker both while driving and idling) i have had the alternator tested and replaced as well as the battery..still happening i bought this truck december 8, 2007 used from a local dealer. i purchased a small warranty but one that won't cover anything mentioned above. if there are any recalls will someone please contact me! *tr

	While driving in the rain, consumer put on brakes and felt abs kicking in, but there was a delay in stopping, consumer has also been to the dealer regarding an excessive brake squeak, dealer had replaced brake pads twice and rotors once. right rear door won't always unlock from inside, dealer found no problem, pins at driver's door hinges rusted. the seal around right rear window holds water after rain. rear passenger seat will not fold down, dealer found cable binding up. water collects in rear light lense when washing vehicle, dealer replaced taillight lense, center high mount lense collects moisture, dealer replaced 3rd light brake assembly. consumer flushed radiator and 12 months later it needed flushed again, dealer performed, consumer paid to have the first flush down and is requesting reimbursement. *slc

	Gm has a safety recall on my 1996 blazer that they will not honor for me. they have indicated the recall was a long time ago and my car is 10 years old. i had the exact problem for the last 5-6 years or more, but never received a notice, and never got it fixed. i was aware of the problem and took measures and limited my driving when it might be a problem. i felt comfortable with the problem as low risk when i drive. now i am selling the car as is. i feel there could be a safety hazard if someone else is driving that is not as aware and cautious as i am. the recall is the windshield washer motor is intermittent. sometimes the wipers won't work. this has been scary in a down pour and when a passing car splashed a muddy wave on the windshield while i was driving in traffic. i have been using rain-x or driving my wifes car when it is raining. i have had the car in to the dealer a couple of times after the recall and even had them look at it once. they never notified me of the recall. this is a gm recognized safety issue that they should correct (at least once) regardless how old my car is. a the original owner, i should have the right to one free repair, and can cash it in anytime. please let me know if you can help me. otherwise will notify whoever i sell the car to, and hope they don't have an accident. *jb

	Good morning, i am writing in regards to the issue outlined below. i have cut and pasted the email i received from general motors in regards to my inquiry about intermittent wipers on our 1996 s-10 blazer. as i emailed back to general motors, our vehicle has over 70,000 miles (exclusion of special policy 02054); however, i a few concerns: 1) general motors replaced a defective part with another defective part. 2) general motors is using the age/mileage of a vehicle to avoid replacing a defective item that is a major safety issue - causing reduced visibility. i would appreciate your clarification on this issue. thank you for your assistance! best regards, charles beck email from general motors: thank you for contacting the chevrolet customer assistance center. we appreciate your owning a 1996 blazer and we apologize for your dissatisfaction and frustration over the repairs that have been needed on the windshield wipers. your blazer was included in the recall for the windshield wipers that was issued in 1998. this repair was completed on your vehicle in december of 1998. now it appears that your blazer may be included in special policy #02054, which covers wiper failure due to a cracked circuit board: some customers of 1996-1997 chevrolet blazer, s10 pickup vehicles not involved in recall 98043 may experience a windshield wiper failure due to cracked solder joints on the controller circuit board. this special policy covers the condition described above for a period of 7 years or 70,000 miles (112,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership, or for those vehicles currently outside of this coverage, until february 29, 2004. the repairs will be made at no charge to the customer. we have created a computer file, 1-172249532, to notate your concerns. *ak

	After having problems with the windshield wipers since the purchase of our 1996 blazer in 8/2002, they completely quit working during a rainstorm while traveling on friday feb 16. there is a recall for a similar problem with blazers but after calling a local dealer i was told it did not apply to our veicle. the windshield wipers now instead of working intermitantly do not work at all and make a buzzing noise.

	I tried to get my extended warranty to fix the issue, but refused to cover it. i told them that it was a safety issue, they disagreed. i did not know that the nhtsa existed, other wise you would of heard from me a long time ago. i read an article in the paper which stated problems with recalls and the vehicles involved and thats when i saw that my car wasn't the only chevrolet vehicle with the same problem. i called the dealership to see if it had anymore recalls to it and they told me no. my blazer has had prior recall for a harnest of some sort!!!! this is a big safety issue to me. everytime it rains i have to pull over to ensure the safety of my family. wipers don't seem to work at all now, and neither does the waterpump that squirts the water to clean the windshild. this happend after approx. 90 days after i purchased the vehicle. *ak

	Beginning in november of 1999, the windshield wipers didn't always work. at first, i thought it was just a fluke. after the initial failure, they worked fine for some time. we had the vehicle in for another problem, and service man told us there had been no problems with the wipers. since that time, it has become more frequent. it intermittenly works. somedays, it works every time, somedays some of the time, and other days, none of the time. yesterday, in the rain, driving all over nashville, tn, it would not work at all, no matter how many times i tried it. today, when i got in the car, i tried it just for the heck of it, and they worked. my husband knows several people who have 95 and 96 model s-10 blazers, who have had theirs replaced free of charge, it was called a campain. when we have asked, we have been told there are no recalls for our vehicle. i found a recall no. 98v150, and sounds an awful lot like our problem. please advise.*ak

	Windshield wipers suddenly stopped working during use. this has happened numerous times which could lead to a serious accident. this problem is very common on 1994, 1995, and 1996 blazers . gm recalled them in canada but not in the u.s.

	Windshield wipers work when they want to work. this has been recalled on vehicles that were made august 1994 through may 1996. my vehicle was made in july 1996 and has the same wiper trouble as the nhtsa campaign id# 98v150001 which is manufacturers campaign #98043.i have talked with dealer about this safty hazard, but since it is not on the recall list, they do not want to repair it. thank you. *ak

	Whenever windshield wipers are in use they would cut off by themselves. would need to get out and jiggle them. sometimes, they come on by themselves. problem is intermittent. *ak

	While driving on the highway at 65mph during rain, the wipers began to fail. the fisrt time it happened they paused slightly then began to operate after a short moment. the second time while driving on the highway at 60mph they paused then started again and then they stopped all together. i pulled over on the road and after awhile they started again but only in the fastest mode. i then began to return home when the wiper failed completely. i was on the highway during a steady rain. i was nearly involved in an accident trying to pull over to the side. i waited for about 20 mins and then they started again. i had to repeat this once more before reaching my home. i immediately took the truck for repairs. the dealer replaiced the circuit board and cover. the same item was recalled in 1998. your recal id# (98vi50001). i paid $132.00 for repairs. i was told that this recall did not cover my vehicle because it was manufactured 8/96. the recall only covered vehicles from 8/94 to 5/96. please add this complaint to your files. i feel that i should not have been billed for a defect that was recalled only 3 months prior to my trucks production. the identical defect was found and the condition could have cost me and my family our lives. something as important as wiper failure should not be taken lightly. the recall should be extended before lives are taken. i have contacted chevrolet and gmc and was told that my vehicle is not covered. anything you can do would be appreciated. thankyou.

	I had to replace the front brakes and get new rotors after 30,000 miles. brakes are very loose, takes a lot of pressure to get them to stop. dealer said my brakes were worn out, and needed to be replaced just 15k miles after the first service. anti-lock feature kicks in when i drive over potholes or ice, and did not use the brakes. also, windshield wiper problem. wipers stop working intermittently. dealer replaced the motor. dealer said motor had shorted out, but the problem started to occur again. when the wipers stop and later start, after manipulating the controls, the overhead digital temperature guage turns off and on. power window stuck in down position. has been replaced twice. these three electrical problems (wiper, window, digital guage) seem related as they all cause a battery drain as indicated through the volt meter. battery went dead after 6 hour road trip. approx 50k miles on vehicle at time. had been running the a/c the whole time, which seemed to drain battery. *ak

	I chose a chevy blazer because i know that chevy is known for the quality of their trucks. unfortunately i couldn't be any more disappointed with my purchase and also with my dealer. ever since i owned my 1996 chevy blazer i've had problems with it and the dealership has continued to take advantage as me as a customer. i can't believe how unprofessional a dealership can be and also how a new vehicle can be so unreliable. the 4th day i had this truck 4 -wheel drive went out, i took it to william chevrolet and they took 2 weeks to fix it, not only that, but they told me to rent a car knowing that i was under 25, instead of lending me a replacement car. in last 3 years the brakes have gone out on me 8 times, and the dealership wouldn't once cover it. my wiper motor went out just before the wiper piece recall went out, i paid for them to fix it, and give me a new motor. but then, when i went to the dealership with the recall they wouldn't reimburse me for the motor just the piece. i don't understand if that piece caused my wiper motor to go out that why do i have to pay for it? my heater is now not working to it's fullest and it's the middle of winter. we just got 21 inches of snow and my 4 wheel drive is not working again. i was unaware that my 4 wheel drive was not working 2 days ago, i turned onto indianapolis blvd, and my blazer did a 360 in the middle of a busy intersection, almost causing a 4 car accident. after that i checked to see if my front wheel were moving, and ofcourse they weren't, therefore i only have rear wheel drive on a $25,000 4x4. the last 2 days have been hell, first i could not get my truck out of its parking spot after i'd shoveled for an hour, after i finally got it out, it got stuck in the snow about 7 times, while 1989 escorts are driving around effortlessly. it's so ridiculous, i have to be afraid to take my truck around the block because it gets stuck in an inch of snow. i'm sitting here now because my vehicle can't get me to work.

	In rainy weather turned on windshield wipers, had problem starting. finally they came on, but stopped awhile. a very intermittent problem. not at dealer's yet. *ak

	While driving about 35mph in the rain, windshield wiperd were working for a time & then stopped. stopped vehicle to turn wipers off & then turn them on. they failed to work. called dealer & told to bring vehicle in when wipers not working again. cannot fix wipers until problem is seen. *ak
