I have had coolant leakage in my 1997 cheverolet blazer and have talked to people at different dealers to no avail no one recommended that i have a systems check now i find out there is a technical bulletin that i stumbled upon at jasper engines that shows that the 1992 through 1997 gm 4.3l vin r&w engines have the problem that coolant loss has been associated with cracks that may develop in the lifter valley area of the block. until i came upon this nobody could give me a answer is there any thing that can be done to help me resolve this issue. *jb

Owning this vehicle has been a nightmare and a financial drain. windshield wipers worked when they chose, replaced wiper motor due to defective part. upper and lower ball joints all had to be replaced. wheel bearings had to be replaced. a/c stopped working, had it looked at and recharged and it still doesn't work. fuel gage didn't work, replaced fuel sensor and sending unit. rear wiper quit working, replaced rear wiper motor, a few days later it does not work again. replaced water pump, have replaced abs only to get a recall after the fact with no reimbursement. wears through brake pads entirely too fast. replaced alternator and battery twice. rear hatch does not unlock with key. headlights are so dim they might as well not exist. water leaks into interior on drivers side due to a bad seal. idler arm needs to be replaced. gas pedal sticks. now heater fan works sometimes. reading through the complaints we are all experiencing the same problems and nothing is being done about it. recalls issued on some vehicles but not all? now i hear gm put a bad intake manifold gasket on these as well as several other cars (1997) and did not issue a recall because it is not a safety matter! this causes antifreeze to leak into the engine and ultimately ends in a repair of at least 1500.00. after my experience with this vehicle i will be purchasing soon and it most likely will not be gm. sad since my dad worked for them for 30 years. they should be held accountable for putting a bad product on the market and leaving us to dry. *nm

97 blazer cooling system failure. from the time i bought the car the cooling system had trouble. the radiator had a leak ( 34391 miles), the cooling system clogged up and the heater core leaked from dex-cool gelling up ( 65265 miles ), again heater core leaking from bad dex-cool ( 104044 miles ), heater core leaking (114387 miles). each time the heater core had to be replaced. the cooling system had to be acid flushed by the dealer because the dex-cool gelled up. all these repairs where done by gm dealer. the dealer could not tell me why the dex-cool was gelling up or the heater core kept leaking. i filed a complaint with gmc (complaint # 1-152407734) gmc could not help me. i found out from a radiator repair shop that they have had many gm cooling system failures du to the dex-cool causing electrolysis. this is the main cause of my problem and gm and the dealer will not address it. the radiator shop said the only repair is to flush out the cooling system for 36 hours the refill it with antifreeze, not dex-cool. also add an anti-electrolysis solution to it and a radiator cap with an anode rod on it. they have had very good results with this repair. there many complaints on your site about this and also many on other auto repair web sites. all i want is to be refunded the money i spent on repairs from day one and have gm pay for the radiator shop to do the flushing and repairs. *la

Upper and lower ball joints needs replaced. upper ball joints were replaced with the 2001 recall from gm. vehicle has less than 31,000 miles
02/19/200312/01/2000
I purchase my 97 blazer in dec 2000 with 35000 miles from a local dealer, i believe it was a previous lease vehicle. within one year i had to replace ball joints but was told that i did not qualify for a recall. in feb of 2003 i lost my heat and spent close to 2000 dollars replacing first the water pump, then the radiator. after that didn't solve the problem, the dealership told me that the system needed to be flushed with a special machine that would cost another 400 dollars. the system had to be flushed twice to get marginal heat. according to the dealership, the next move is to replace the heater core. now the wipers stop working and only restart by flipping the switch back and forth. not real good on the highway in rush hour traffic. i recently had the alternator replaced and the dealership stated that the serpentine belt was old and cracked and needed to be replaced. it actually had less than 5000 miles on it as they replaced it in february when the water pump was done, there was nothing wrong with it. the combination of lousy service from 2 different dealerships, a vehicle that has had nothing but ongoing problems will be enough to stop me from buying another gm product again. *nlm

This vehicle has had numerous problems. from bad dexcool, witch caused a major overhaul of the cooling system at approx. 37000 or 3 1/2 yr. yet chevrolet states the coolant is good for 5yr or 150,000. the front ball joints had to be replaced at approx. 35,000. just over the 3yr warranty with no help from chevy despite numerous complaints of this failure. also have had two batteries in the system one after only 3000 miles and the second one is now out at 38000 miles. there is a short in the system that still has not been found. the shift lever handle has been a changed 3 times and still rattle after approx. a month of use. the front drivers side mirror shakes to the point it is hard to see out of when driving. the hood rattles when going over bumps, which can be fixed by adding a solid rubber gasket at the top of hood to keep the hinge stops from bouncing on the frame. the front brakes had to be redone at 28,000. *ak

Cooliant system filled with slugs caused by dex coolant product. breakdown. dex is suppose to be good for 100,000 miles, at 53,000 took vehicle in for tranmission hose leak, dealer opened radiator cap and said this is a on going problem with blazers. recommended a flush be done, which the dealership did. now vehicle has an indication (spike) of over heating. now dealership states block needs to be pulled, freeze plugs pulled and a complete block flush , along with radiator recored and heater core replaced. is there any information on the breakdown of dex coolant fuilds that is causing this problem or that has been sent out from the manufacter of this product. i am now looking at $1,300.00 of repairs to correct this problem. *ak

The engine shuts off without notice at random. when this happens on the freeway, it is rather un-nerving, as i must get to the shoulder to stop. once turned off for ten seconds, the engine restarts as if nothing happened... until the next time. firestone charged me to replace the alternator with no improvement. it has sence been to the tom jumper chevrolet dealership three times. they keep replacing small parts, but have yet to identify the problem. each time they keep the truck one to two weeks, but the problem returns. i'm afraid to drive it in its present condition, but have to drive to work. i feel like they will not correct the problem until someone gets hurt as a result of this failure. any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

When coming to a stop, vehicle idle speed surges to 1200 rpm, instead of its usual 700 rpm, causing car to move forward into car ahead. this is intermitant, @ only occurs when car is in gear. problem is handled by shifting to neutral when preparing to stop..

While traveling at any speed or when coming to a complete stop vehicle will stall and cut off without prior warning. consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has yet to replace any parts. *ak

 Engine failure.

While driving vehicle at any rate of speed vehicle begins to lose power and eventually stalls. *ak consumer stated also stalled when idling, when restarted, starts right up and engine revs up to 1500-2000 rpm, then goes back down to idle at 600 rpm, when driving on highway, sometimes vehicle looses all power in gas pedal, if the gas pedal is stepped on there is a loud popping noise that can be heard.*jb

*nlm

Well so far the encoder motor, the drive belt, trans. dipstick rusted, sensor in ses light, whining fuel pump, vibration in rear when leaving from stop, now the car stalls while driving along.and you never know when it will ,it may go several miles before doing so and it may only go a couple before doing so. i feel that it is very dangerous not knowing whether you can get out of the way or not.the dealer tells me he is pretty sure that it is the fuel pump.but can not tell me for sure that it will take care of the problem....and the part alone is 518.00 we have a van with 142k miles and a truck with 262k miles so we feel like we maintain our vehicles or would not get the mileage..really concerned with this vehicle.....which was a fleet vehicle purchased from auction....and we were told differently.....i want to be able to get satisfaction from somewhere....please help. *ak

Vehicle has 92k miles, but its 99% highway miles. the tranission failed as well as the sensor module, gas gauge failed, water pump failed, cracks in the exhaust system, windshield fluid leaked into the vehicle when rear washer was activated, bad battery which was never replaced (trying to sell me a new one all the time), constant resurfacing of front rotors due to unevean wear and a defective gas gasket to the evaporative system. i can supply exact mileage and dates of repair. if i didn't have an extended warranty, i would have taken chevrolet to court by now for a new vehicle. i don't think my next vehicle will be a gm.

Engine check light problem is an ongoing issue with both current and former owner. 3 different mechanics put ther scanners on the vehicle and keep bringing up the oxygen sensor as the problem. had one bad sensor at the wiring harness plug which was poorly assembled at the factor causing water to get to the contacts and contaminated the connector. replaced all 4 o2 sensors and still cannot get the check engine light to go away. vehicle performs perfect along with 24 mpg gas one highway driving. this is an issues other blazer owners are experiencing. gm should be held accountable to fix this issue.*ak

The engine continues to cut off if the vehicle has been drived for more that 30 minutes and the a/c is running. the engine light does not come on nor are there any warnings that the vehicle is going to die. dealer cannot identify any problem because computer isn't registering any issues. the egr valve was replaced but problem continues. *ak

The vacuum and egr valve caused the problem with brake failure. brakes felt like pushing on a brick when going downhill. was making squealing noises. had no brakes. vehicle went over an embankment & flipped. upon impact, air bags failed to deploy. dealer informed owner of intermittent problems with brakes. driver has back problem due to accident. *ak
