 Dt: the contact set the cruise control while going up a hill and vehicle sped up .while going down the hill the vehicle just kept going faster. the rpms were above 4000. he pressed on the brake pedal as hard as possible. this slowed the vehicle a little. he managed to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. he got out of the vehicle and opened the hood to checked the throttle assembly. it was stuck. he worked with the throttle and finally managed to get it released. the contact has not taken the vehicle to a dealership to duplicate the problem. *ak updated 2/7/2006 - *nm

 1997 chevrolet blazer engine revved to a very high rpm.*mr after the vehicle hit a pothole in the street the engine revved very high. it revved somewhere around 4500 rpm's. the consumer popped to hood to see if he could determine what caused the problem but couldn't find anything wrong. the next day the consumer inspected the vehicle and found that butterfly valve was open and showed where the wedge shaped piece was supposed to be riveted on. it appeared that the wedge piece broke away from the rivets and pivoted down into the throat of the injector body causing the computer to sense the need to floor the gas pedal. *nm

 While driving at 65 mph engine revved very high. consumer pulled to the shoulder, and called a tow truck and had vehicle towed to a repair shop. a rebuilt engine was installed in the vehicle, but not by the dealer.*ak

 While slowing down from high speeds vehicle will start to accelerate. also, vehicle will shutdown at times too. contacted dealer, and dealer has replaced several parts of vehicle, including transmission; but, nothing has worked yet. *ak

 Car accelerated to 70mph when i when to downshift to get off a major highway ramp. i pressed on the brake and lost my brakes. i turned off the key to stop. i was traveling on a major highway in maryland and at that time of day traffic was light. i could have caused a major accident due to this acceleration problem and killed someone or been killed myself. this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed now!!!!!!!*ak
 Throttle body broke apart ,causing accelerator to open up and speed forward without touching gas pedal. dealer contacted. please add vin. *ak

 While waiting at a traffic light engine would suddenly accelerate. vehicle taken to a repair shop, and had idle air control replaced. dealer was not notified at this time. feel free to provide any further information concerning this matter.*ak

 Cruise control cable/ plastic retainer snapped, cruise control engaged by itself. on approach to an intersection accelerator pedal jammed despite release of foot from pedal. attempted to brake with both feet on brake pedal with no apparent slowing of vehicle. given the fact that both of my young children were in the vehicle, and we were quickly approaching the intersection, i put the car in neutral. with both feet on the brake and still no slowing of the vehicle, my concern for the safety of my children became overwhelming. with my engine reving at an audibly 'pending- doom' level, and cars cruising directly across my path, ( crossing traffic did not have a stop sign), i slammed my vehicle into park and prayed for it to stop. i then proceeded to turn off the ignition and it wasn't until an eternity of a second later that the vehicle ceased. the sequence of events that took place, ultimately resulted in the towing of the vehicle, and the replacement of the engine. my biggest concern is for the future safety of the many families who own these suv's. please contact me.

 Throttle sticks open at low speeds this could result in a serious accident . this caused by carbon buildup in air intake throat around thottle control plate.*ak

 I reported the problem with my cruise control speeding up two years ago. you failed to respond, confirming that you are in bed with the manufacturers. my cruise control has been in the off position since my first report. while cruise was in off i accidentally hit the middle button on when i tuned on my high beam. the cruise engaged and sped up. again it wouldn't turn off until i turned the engine off. *ak

 I would like to attach this to the previous comment that the front throttle body plates need constant cleaning as well. i would like to also enter a correction that my vehicle does have a abs brake system

 If gear shift is shifted into neutral, cruise control will not disengage. engine continues to rev very high, beyond 'redline', engine could explode. dealer inspected vehicle, and finds nothing wrong with the vehicle. *ak.et.
 Throttle got stuck in wide open position due to a piece of metal that had peeled off. this could have caused an accident. *ak

 I was driving on the tollway and approximatly 1 mile before the toll, i felt my car accelerating without my foot on the gas. i thought the cruise control was on, but it wasn't.as i approached the toll and had my foot on the brake, my car was not slowing down, i almost crashed into the car ahead of me. i put the car in neutral and shut it off. after putting it in park, i was told by the toll authority to try to start the car. when i did, it revved up all the way into the red zone,8000 rpms. i took the car to the dealer and was told nothing was wrong with it. about 2 weeks later, my engine was deemed ruined. the rod, pistons and bearings were shot, not due to lack of maintanence. the cause of the engine problem was due to the throttle. none of this should of occurred in a car that is still somewhat new. please respond. *ak

 My cruise control failed. it sped up on its own and i was unable to disengage it either by the brake or by turening it off. finally i put the car in neutral and pulled over on the side of the road and turned the car off. i almost got in an accident with a semi. i wouldn't mind if the cruise just stopped working, however, this situation almost killed me. the vehicle got up to in excess of 90 miles an hour before i was able to stop it. i tried to contact you once before and i haven't heard back. chevy basicly told me i should have died. i am also contacting the consumers union since you don't care if other peoaple die as a result of this defect

 Engine check light comes on. vehicle would lurch forward after shifting into 2nd gear. been to dealer. informed transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. took to transmission shop & had it replaced w/rebuilt transmission which is slipping. taking vehicle back to dealer. *ak

 Cruise control jammed and would not disengage with the brake. brakes failedd completely to slow the car down. i was forced to put the car in neutral and drive off the road and turn the car off in order to manually disengage the gas. i almost collided with a tractor tailer.

 While the a/c system is activated, rpms go up 1300 -1800 and vehicle accelerates. but braking system does slow it down. dealer cannot determine the problem. *ak

 Throttle sticks. diagnosis=carbon build up in throttle line. was told by service dept. that it is a design defect in late model chevy engines. was told that they see it all the time, esp. in blazers. throttle can stick at any given moment. chevy calling it a maintenance problem even though dealer tech said it is a design problem. i consider the throttle sticking at any given moment a serious safety issue! first incident in sept. 1998 at 25,000 miles, fixed under warranty. problem occcured again, was told that this is now considered a maintenance issue and not covered under warranty. i consider this a safety problem and am very nervous about driving this vehicle if the throttle will stick at any given moment.

 I was driving along and the engine raced out of control, with my foot on the brake i was doing 50 - 55 mph. if there was more traffic, there would have been a crash. now the dealership(hoskins chevrolet-elk grove village,il) says the vehicle performs normally. *ak
 While driving vehicle will accelerate on its own up to 35mph without pressing the gas pedal. consumer states this happens three to four times a day. to stop acceleration driver has to put the vehicle in nutural while moving and shut enigine down. dealer has been contacted. *ak

 While driving at 60 mph, driver eased off the accelerator, about 2 seconds later, the vehicle went full throttle and continued to accelerate pass 100 mph. the cruise control was not being used. driver was able to shut of the ignition and coast vehicle to a stop safely. there was no crash or injuries. the blazer was taken to the dealership. the dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. *ak

 While driving vehicle about 55 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated up to 70 mph without any reason, causing an accident. comsumer coudn't stop vehicle. the patrol police said: it was a mechanical deffect; manufacturer was contacted. *ak

 Owning this vehicle has been a nightmare and a financial drain. windshield wipers worked when they chose, replaced wiper motor due to defective part. upper and lower ball joints all had to be replaced. wheel bearings had to be replaced. a/c stopped working, had it looked at and recharged and it still doesn't work. fuel gage didn't work, replaced fuel sensor and sending unit. rear wiper quit working, replaced rear wiper motor, a few days later it does not work again. replaced water pump, have replaced abs only to get a recall after the fact with no reimbursement. wears through brake pads entirely too fast. replaced alternator and battery twice. rear hatch does not unlock with key. headlights are so dim they might as well not exist. water leaks into interior on drivers side due to a bad seal. idler arm needs to be replaced. gas pedal sticks. now heater fan works sometimes. reading through the complaints we are all experiencing the same problems and nothing is being done about it. recalls issued on some vehicles but not all? now i hear gm put a bad intake manifold gasket on these as well as several other cars (1997) and did not issue a recall because it is not a safety matter! this causes antifreeze to leak into the engine and ultimately ends in a repair of at least 1500.00. after my experience with this vehicle i will be purchasing soon and it most likely will not be gm. sad since my dad worked for them for 30 years. they should be held accountable for putting a bad product on the market and leaving us to dry. *nm

 While driving 30 mph accelerator pedal went to the floor and commenced the vehicle to accelerate at 45 mph. the driver engaged the emergency parking brake until the engine stop acceleration. the dealer was not notified. *ak when the consumer released the gas pedal the speed did not decrease. the wheels started to smoke as the engine was racing and the brakes were engaged. the consumer then engaged the emergency brake and tried to get the transmission to go into neutral but it wouldn't. *sc

 The gas pedal has been sticking since i bought the vehicle. when i went to get an oil change in april of 2001 i had an all point vehicle inspection done. when i went to get my vehicle they told me that i needed to replace upper & lower ball joints on the front right side of my chevrolet blazer 4wd. i phone the gm hotline & i was told the my vehicle was not included on a recent recall that i just received by e-mail from autobytel. could you please help me to find out if my vehicle is part of a recall? thank you for your time and concern. lisa cook. *ak

 Ongoing problem with accelerator pedal sticking. has been fixed once and have an appointment to check again. the accelerator has to be pushed hard at times causing a jerky motion. feels very unsafe.

 Gas pedal will stick intermittently. consumer has to force it down to work normally. sometimes gas pedal will stick without a warning. dealer repaired the throttle linkage failure. *ml

 Engine oil leak looks as if the oil filter is leaking but is coming from the oil filter adapter lines service advisors and managers all know of the problem and told me what it was without looking at vehicle they said it was common on all blazers chevrolet denied any problem fuel gauge stopped recording below half and would go back up to full at times gas pedal would be hard to press and finally would stick at various speeds engine coolant coolant looks rusty in the overflow tank and corroded around radiator cap directly behind the sticker that reads no matience required for 5 yrs. 150,000 miles

 While driving at 55 mph the transmission went out, the gear was stuck in 3rd gear, and the gears were shifting very hard. consumer took the vehicle in for service, and the dealer test drove the vehicle and couldn't determine. dealer replaced the transmission tube, and engine valve body. also, the accelerator slips. *ak

 Failure of engine control systems to reduce idle rpm on deceleration is causing undue strain on braking system and premature wear of components. problem has been reported to dealer on two occasions and has not been corrected. reduced braking ability while in gear and even downshifting due to the engine's delay in reducing the idle speed has forced the driver to shift to neutral to during braking to disable the engine from the drive system. the vehicle is equipped with a manual 5-speed transmission. problem may be linked to other models with faulty egr valves but has not been diagnosed by my dealer. their only solution is to download a new program into the ecm, but it hasn't worked.*ak

 Consumer attempted to start car smelled gas vehicle would not start. took to a mechanic and they replaced fuel pump and then found gas in computer. mechanic stated fuel injectors failed and flooded the computer, which stopped vehicle from starting. ts
