The windshield wipers don't work all the time. the last 10 times that i tried to turn them on, they didn't 5 of those times. this has been happening on and off for the past month. last night i had to pull into the breakdown lane on the highway across 3 lanes in a downpour, because the wipers just stopped operating. i was almost hit because i couldn't see anything. *tr

I own a 1997 chevrolet blazer. a few years back the windshield wipers stopped working while i was driving in a heavy rainstorm on a high traffic expressway. it was a very dangerous situation as there was no visibility due to the wipers stopping. i contacted chevrolet and repairs were made at a dealership. on monday, december 15, 2008, i was driving in a rainstorm and once again the wipers failed. i contacted chevrolet and they gave me a service request claim no. and made an appointment at the same dealership to have the vehicle diagnosed. they told me that i was responsible for the diagnostic fee and no guarantee that they would be responsible for the repair charges. i believe this is a hazardous problem to myself, passengers, other motorists, and pedestrians. this is the 2nd incident. i checked for re-calls on this and there are none. *tr

1997 chevy blazer has been taken to bob chevrolet in columbus ohio for back flush of heater core due to no heat for defrosting windows.this has been done twice. vehicle has been taken to a local sunoco station due to no heat. had themostat replaced. after that it heated up a short while but not to the point of doing the job during colder nights. i finally took it to a local garage and they said it needed a heater which costs me $500 to replace which i had to have done. i have a couple of friends that have had the same problem with there blazers and the heater cores going bad. i think this is an issue and should be looked into. no wonder people buy non american crafted autos. i don't think if so many people with the same type of vehicles are having the same problems that gm should get away with this. please advise. thanks, scott bever

Contamination of cooling system due to dex-cool. entire system must be flushed and heater core replaced. chevrolet motor div. has offered to pay for half the cost, although it is no longer under their 36,000 mile warranty. my concern is that there is a major problem with dex-cool and they are not responding to it, as they claim that it should not need to be changed for 5 years or 150,000 miles. i found out about the contamination after bringing my car in for a sloshing, gurgling sound under the dash. *ak

I have a problem with the windshield wipers on my 1997 chevrolet blazer. i called the gm hotline and questioned information about any recalls. i did this due to my problem and a recent conversation with a neighbor who has the same vehicle and had the same problem. however, she received a letter to take her vehicle in for repair. when i contacted chevrolet about this oversight they indicated that my vehicle was not eligible since the vehicle did not meet requirements. it was over the 70,000 miles. however, if i had received this letter when they indicate they initially sent them out (may 2003) my vehicle would have indeed qualiifed for service repair. now i am stuck with the charges to have this repair completed on my vehicle. is there any way that gm can be held responsible? this is the same address that i had when the vehicle was purchased new and i just recieved a notice about a seat belt recall. it seems to me that they are not concerned about this problem nor the fact that due to their neglect to mail this letter, i have to pay myself for a defective part. the wipers have been working intermittantly almost since i have owned the vehicle. for the past two years or so now it seems that they work on occasion. i cannot afford to have them fixed, i just hope that it doesn't rain or they work when it does. *ak

Owning this vehicle has been a nightmare and a financial drain. windshield wipers worked when they chose, replaced wiper motor due to defective part. upper and lower ball joints all had to be replaced. wheel bearings had to be replaced. a/c stopped working, had it looked at and recharged and it still doesn't work. fuel gage didn't work, replaced fuel sensor and sending unit. rear wiper quit working, replaced rear wiper motor, a few days later it does not work again. replaced water pump, have replaced abs only to get a recall after the fact with no reimbursement. wears through brake pads entirely too fast. replaced alternator and battery twice. rear hatch does not unlock with key. headlights are so dim they might as well not exist. water leaks into interior on drivers side due to a bad seal. idler arm needs to be replaced. gas pedal sticks. now heater fan works sometimes. reading through the complaints we are all experiencing the same problems and nothing is being done about it. recalls issued on some vehicles but not all? now i hear gm put a bad intake manifold gasket on these as well as several other cars (1997) and did not issue a recall because it is not a safety matter! this causes antifreeze to leak into the engine and ultimately ends in a repair of at least 1500.00. after my experience with this vehicle i will be purchasing soon and it most likely will not be gm. sad since my dad worked for them for 30 years. they should be held accountable for putting a bad product on the market and leaving us to dry. *nm

I recently purchased a 1997 chevy s-10 blazer. a couple of weeks ago i noticed that the windshield wipers would work sporadically, and sometimes not at all. i researched this issue and found on different internet forums that others had an issue with this too. i then did a recall search and found nothing under 1997 chevy blazer, however, under 1997 chevy s-10 (my blazer is the s-10 model) a recall pertaining to exactly what i am experiencing (nhtsa campaign id number: 03v159000). i then proceeded to contact my local chevrolet dealer, and with no avail, was told that my particular model was not included. so i then contacted chevrolet directly, and again was told it was not subject to this particular recall. in the recall summary, it states on certain minivans, pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. i would like to have this matter taken care of without any financial impact on my part. obviously i am experiencing exactly what the recall states. *jb

( the mechanic told me this is a common problem in all blazers and he'll see me again in about 15-25k miles)tires had to be replaced early because they wear fast on the front. replaced ball joint recently. vehicle makes excessive noises in front end( including engine compartment) for age. vehicle has had electrical problems since purchace to include ignition replacement, fuel pump and sensors replaced, fuel guage going wacky, lights always seem dim( i have a hard time seeing at night when driving this particular vehicle), vehicle would not start on too many occasions to list and towed once while on a trip for this problem. vehicle had to be jump started on several occasions, battery seems to drain fo no apparent reason. seats and belts have been repaired about 4 times. i only detail listed items which i know the exact dates. which happened. vehicle is at the dealer right now for electrical and they are saying there is no problem. my wife and i are currently trying to work with gm on these issues, but haven't received much help. i am very dissapointed with the gm service and the dealers. i have always been a chevy person, but i don't beleive i want to own another problem. i have heard many people complain about similar problems with their 199x blazer. the two dealers which have worked on this vehicle the most try to tell my wife these problems are normal. no vehicle of this age should have this many problems. i had a 20 year old chevy truck before this blazer and didn't have nearly the problems. sorry, had to vent a little. *ak

Windshield wipers randomly do not turn on. occasionally stopping the vehicle, turning engine off and restarting engine will allow wipers to start. sometimes after they start they will stop operating on the upsweep. sometimes they will start again from that position without any input from the driver. then there are days when they operate as intended, with no problems at all.

 Wiper arm assembly failed.
While driving in bad weather condition the solder joint near the wiring harness connector malfunctioned, causing the windshield wipers to become inoperable. dealer provided only a temporary fix to the problem. vehicle was not included in recall number 98v150001. please give any further details. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1997 chevrolet blazer. the contact stated that the suspension front upper ball joint was making a popping noise. the failure caused the vehicle to shift, which made it impossible to align the front end. the vehicle has not been taken to the dealer. she also stated that the windshield wipers worked intermittently. occasionally, the windshield wipers grind when activated. she stated that the wiper motor works, but the arms do not. if she jiggles the arms, the wipers would work temporarily. the current mileage was 130,000 and failure mileage was 125,000.

*nm

Dt: owner noticed after washing the car that the windshield wipers don't work. owner has to stop and get out and hit the windshield wiper motor in order to get the windshield wipers to work. sometimes the owner has to get out and wipe off the windshield. the auto parts store told the owner that there was no seal in the motor of the windshield wipers and this allows water to enter the motor. the owner has checked with chevrolet and they stated owner would have to pay for diagnosis and the repair. *nm the consumer believes the vehicle also has inferior ball joints. *nm

I have problems with my windshield wipers intermittenly failing. they will work one moment then stop another moment. sometimes just restarting the truck will get them going again, other times i have to get out of the truck and pull on them to get them moving again. most recently the wiper failure occurred 3x during a trip to work in the rain, and i had to pull over each time to get the wipers restarted again by pulling on them. in a google search about this problem, i found there have been many others who have experienced this same problem. some have said the failures are a result of bad(cold) solder joints on the pc board in the wiper motor that is causing the intermittent problem. reflowing of the solder joints on the board has corrected the problem for many.

I understand that some of gm vehicles are being recalled or an extended warranty is being placed on them for defective windshield wipers. my wipers went out diuring a strong rain storm. i was on a dallas highway during rush hour traffic and could not pull over. it was very dangerous and scary to drive without my windshield wipers. i feel that my safety was jeaporized. i have since checked various websites for recall notices and am not finding it on my blazer.

Lack of assistance in remedying defects of record. soon after the notification about upper and lower ball joints on the 97 chevy blazers (my suv originated in delaware, i called the local dealership and they blew me off and wouldn't fix the problem. i had to have one replaced at my expense. now i get the same thing about the windshield wiper motor. my wipers are now intermittent. they will stop going down the road. they restart when they feel like it. most of the time they work perfectly. it is the unexpected stop that is scary. i have also received a notice on the driver seat belt. just who am i suppose to call. lindsay sure doesn't want to remedy the situations.

I purchase my 97 blazer in dec 2000 with 35000 miles from a local dealer, i believe it was a previous lease vehicle. within one year i had to replace ball joints but was told that i did not qualify for a recall. in feb of 2003 i lost my heat and spent close to 2000 dollars replacing first the water pump, then the radiator. after that didn't solve the problem, the dealership told me that the system needed to be flushed with a special machine that would cost another 400 dollars. the system had to be flushed twice to get marginal heat. according to the dealership, the next move is to replace the heater core. now the wipers stop working and only restart by flipping the switch back and forth. not real good on the highway in rush hour traffic. i recently had the alternator replaced and the dealership stated that the serpentine belt was old and cracked and needed to be replaced. it actually had less than 5000 miles on it as they replaced it in february when the water pump was done, there was nothing wrong with it. the combination of lousy service from 2 different dealerships, a vehicle that has had nothing but ongoing problems will be enough to stop me from buying another gm product again. *nlm

Windshield wipers do not work properly anymore. they will turn on, and will stop, then start to work, then stop, if i turn them off, they keep working (they are still on with the switch on the off position) and will stop at various places on the windshield, often in a straight up position, which blocks driver view. when turned on again to fix, they often stop in the same place. this can go on for several attempts to get them to stop (rest) in the proper place. also, turning them on delay will not work anymore. they seem to work with no delay, or they will stop completely on their own. i see a recall for wipers for the same vehicle, previous years, is there any chance the 97 blazer (i have a 2-dr.) has the same problem? thank you.*ak
