ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

After having driven the vehicle for about 2 hours on interstate roads (constantly monitoring the coolant gauge - standard for any trip i take). i stopped to go to the rest room and when i returned and started the vehicle it made a horrible loud metal banging noise. i moved the vehicle to that if it needed to be towed it would be ready. i checked the coolant gauge and it was at the very end of the hot zone, checked the coolant and found almost no coolant in the reservoir. i had to put water in to get it home (another 3 hours on the road). at no time during that trip did the coolant gauge indicate that the vehicle was overheating. i have changed the oil per the recommendation in the owners manual and have done most of the other recommendations and have had no other major issues with the vehicle. on july 12th i had the manifold intake gasket replaced, oil changed and tires rotated in preparation for the trip.*jb

Bought new/used 1999 chevrolet blazer from showcase chevrolet in westminster ca. had in possession for about 1 week and then began having radiator/cooling system problems. dealership did not want to correct defect so tried to use lemon law. no one would give me information on general manager. finally found out who gm was after 3 weeks of hassles. found out that his name was joe perry and that he was on vacation at the time. when he returned i contacted him that day and told him about all my troubles and how the vehicle was obviously defective after being in the shop 2 times in less than a month. he was rude and not helpful what-so-ever with the situation. after being told basically its my problem now, i decided to find out the area managers name and how to contact him/her. called chevrolet customer service number and reported the vehicle problems and the service problems in which i had contacted just trying to fix my defective vehicle. customer service pretended to care but nothing was being done. then i called showcase chevrolet back and talked with mr. perry once again, and asked him for the name of his area manager. i was told that they were independently owned and they did not have an area manager. i repeated him and made sure they did not have a manager that was higher on the list than mr. perry himself. i was bluntly told no. i then called customer service and found that they do have an area manager and that showcase thought i wanted to contact him. so instead of telling me that they did have an area manager but i could not contact him myself, he just though it would be better to say that mr. perry was the head of everything and they had no such thing as an area manager. well now i'm here complaining to the last place i could find. today i heard on the news of this outrages lawsuit with gm and their cooling system and dex-cool. that is what im experiencing with my vehicle.

2 months into owning this vehicle the upper console digital temperature read out went bad. upon replacing it twice it is still malfunctioning. they have even replaced the sensor on the front grill to no avail. at one oil change the vehicle was returned to me with a crooked hood. the lock assembly had slid over 1/2 inch. it caused the hood and the fender to meet and the two metals slammed together caused a scratch on both parts in the paint. the lock assembly was returned to it's original position. upon informing the dealer that the vehicle was slipping when in gear i was given a verbal driving lesson. i have been driving the chevrolet s-10 blazer since 1992 and this is the 3rd one i have aquired. after bringing in a third party the locking differential, all fluids, and seals were replaced, thus fixing the issue. at 4000 miles my engine burned out 3 of 6 fuel injectors with no explaination. i have been made aware of several other vehicles of the same year and model being brought in for the same issues. there are several other small issues, little buttons falling out, cover plates popping out of place, etc. but you do not have a box for these issues. the owner of this dealership is very aware of the issues i have come across as i have been a customer of this dealership for 3 years and have removed 3 vehicles from this dealership. thank you for your time. *ak

During maintenance, owner noticed coolant getting dirty. had it flushed four times. heater quit working after first flush. brownish-gray sludge was blocking the heater core. mechanic stated it was due to a small leak in the intake manifold gasket causing small amounts of dirty air and oil to mix with coolant. since having gasket replaced, coolant has not gotten dirty again. vortec engines 1999-2003 were prone to this gasket failure. dexcool doesn't mix well with dirt or oil. *nm

Purchased used 99 blazer for business use. 8 miles from dealers site, the day of purchase, vehicle overheated - 18,200 miles on it. dealer replaced radiator and hoses - full flush of system - refilled with dexcool, at no charge. solidified rusty sludge clogged radiator, heater core, and hoses - had identical problem with 96 blazer. personally replaced dexcool with zerex. independent mechanic has seen 15-18 of these in last two years.*jb

I purchased my 1999 blazer used in 5/03, two months later the water pump started leaking horribly, had it replaced. another month later it completely died on my in the middle of morning rush hour, found out that the fuel pump was completely shot, and the battery was not good...at the same time. early last month i was told that the high pressure oil lines were leaking badly, and also that the idler arm on the front right is bad. now as i am researching the chevy blazer more and more, i'm finding out that many consumers are having the same problems in all models. chevrolet should be held responsible for many of these recurring problems, and something needs to be done!*jb

Consumer stated that the anti-freeze that chevrolet was using in vehicle was turning to sludge after 60,000 miles. this caused thermostat to freeze, and heater to become plugged up. consumer stated that he was lucky that the thermostat froze in an open position because if it was hot it would have caused vehicle to overheat, and that was dangerous. he thought this was a design problem with chevrolet.*ak

After noticing that i was loosing anifreeze in my vehicle, i recently had to replace the intake gaskets in my 1999 chevy blazer. it has just over 40,000 miles. after doing research, i've found out that this is a commom problem w/ the gm vehicles and that there are thousands of people who have had to spend hundreds of dollars in repairs to have this fixed. it conveniently happens just after the warrenty period has expired. this is clearly unfair to the consumer and i would like to know why gm has not been forced to correct this problem.

When the air conditioner compressor is running there is a noticeable loss of power. when accellerating from a stop it is necessary to increase the pressure on the gas pedal to compensate for the loss of power if the compressor cycles on. if the compressor cycles off during acceleration you need to let up on the gas pedal to compensate for the increase of power. the dealer has been made aware of the problem and have tried to repair the problem but now claim this is normal for this vehicle. i have owned two other blazers and they did not have this problem. i also have driven another 1999 blazer and it did not display this problem. this vehicle is not safe to drive. i has been necessary to turn off the a/c in traffic. any help you may be able to give me on this matter would be greatly appreciated. i plan to file for arbitration with the bbb as per the manufactures warranty. *ak
