| We purchased our blazer new. at 23,000 miles we heard a clunk noise in the transmission when we put it in reverse, but the vehicle appeared to be fine. since the vehicle was still under warranty i took the blazer to the dealership and had them look to ensure there were no problems. they couldn't find anything and said it was still under warranty, if something were to cracked and break it would still be covered. the transmission broke at 55000 miles, 2nd, 4th & reverse didn't work. the dealership wasn't interested in fixing it under warranty because it was beyond the 3/36 warranty coverage. i spoke with several local independent garages getting estimates and everyone said chevrolet has had all kinds of problems due to a broken internal gear. i paid $2,000 to get it fixed. since doing so i've talked to countless blazer owners and the majority have had the same problem. one other problem we recently experienced was the front right wheel bearing going bad. my investiagtions have concluded that is another known defect gm has and are unwilling to fix. is there someone at gm who is willing to assist in compensation for my costly transmission fix? everyone i've contacted are not interested in helping the consumer with a problem that happens without warning and left my wife in the middle of the road. working in the automitive industry and a supplier to both gm and ford, i understand the liability automakers have in addressing known problems, especially problems like this that could happen without warning and result in death. i encourage assistance on this matter from gm or nhtsa. *ak | |||

| I purchased my chevrolet blazer new at the end of 1999 and it has been in the shop so much i know all 15 of the mechanics by there first name. the battery has been replaced at least 3 times, the alternator has been changed 3 times, the automatic transmission has been replaces, the seat handles have been replaced more than once, the seat belts have been replaced from locking up, the front end has had work done to it and still is not fixed, the rear right speaker does not work, the fuel gauge has been replaced, the gas petal sticks i haft to clean the card at least every month, the heater core has been replaced 3 times and it still does not get hot. i was told that this was caused by the orange antifreeze and was told that chey would not warranty their 5 year antifreeze and the dealer told me that i needed a $500.00 engine flush that i could do my shelf for $10.00 but i was then told that the engine was corroded up inside and i would need a new motor and they would not pay for it even under warranty. i called gm complaint line and was told that they new of the problem and they could not offer me any help. the complaint line was a joke and a waste of my time. i will never buy another chevy this is my second vehicle. my first was a s10 and i had the same problems. *ak | |||

| 6/12/03, 2000 blazer 4x4 transmission suddenly lost ability to obtain all gears. after parking, the vehicle lost ability to shift into reverse as well. noise transmitted from transmission contained metallic material grinding and moving within. at the time, the vehicle was still less than 3 years old with the majority of its use coming from work transportation. the chevy dealer would not quote without disassembling the transmission, which would be the majority of the labor involved in a full repair. they stated that they generally prefer to replace the transmission, $3200. a local transmission shop diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes. the owner has seen this issue on several occasions and literally described the symptoms as soon as i told him i had a blazer with transmission issues. the complete rebuild, due to a sun-shell gear failure, cost $2097.78. the technician stated that the non-robust joining of two cylinders (no fillet) as well as the thickness and material used allows the part to fail quite frequently. he had completed multiple jobs for this at his shop alone. in fact, an acquaintance of mine, had the identical situation happen with his blazer the week of 10/26/03. at the time of the incident i had called the chevy customer service line with no help coming from them. this has been the pinnacle of several failures on this vehicle including both front wheel bearing assemblies (38,000mi and 55,000mi), a power seat that quit working, a power window that quit working, and several paint issues. reference chevy technical service bulletin 010730038.*ak | |||

| After purchasing this vehicle new for over $26, 000, we began having problems immediately. fortunately, these repairs (including 4 wd failure 3 x) were covered by the manufacturer's warranty. however, when the truck was diagnosed w/ transmission problems at 34,000 miles, we began to worry. i contacted gm at that time and begged them to consider extending the warranty. while being extremely pleasant, the ultimate decision was no. this was based on the recommendation of the service manager, greg. he stated that there was no reason to extend the warranty, as the problems had all been fixed. unfortunately, they had not! the transmission failed at 55,000 miles while doing 55 mph, on an entrance ramp to a major highway. while trying to accelerate, the truck made a horrible noise and would no longer shift into 2nd or 3rd gear. after carefully driving it to a safe place, i discovered that reverse was out as well. i contacted greg at the dealership immediately, and was informed that the transmission is no longer covered. i then contacted gm, and again, while being extremely pleasant, they have not committed to replacing or even helping to replace the transmission. this is the 1st american car i have ever owned and will never buy another. it is my feeling that gm knows that there is a problem, but is unwilling to step up and take responsibility. shouldn't a 4 wd vehicle have a transmission that lasts past 100,000! not to mention 4 wd that actually works! dt | |||

| I was driving down the road when i heard a loud pop. found out the transmission had gone for reverse, second and third gears. the clutches (automatic) had been replaced in october 2001 and now they had blown. mechanic said this was a common issue among new blazers. gm at first indicated they would consider helping out if the dealership diagnosed the problem and then changed stories to say that they wouldn't do anything until the dealership fixed the problem and then they would consider it; however, it wasn't likely. it seems to me that the transmission shouldn't have two identical major issues within 15,000 miles of each other. unfortunately, the first repair was only under warranty for 12 months/12,000 miles. gm needs to step up to the plate. | |||

| Transmission failed while pulling out of the driveway into the neighborhood. the blazer would not go into reverse, 2nd and 4th gear. an independent transmission shop said that he has fixed at least six 1999 and 2000 model year blazers in the past two months that had this same problem. based on this information, i contacted the manufacturer at phone # 1-800-222-1020. chevrolet's customer service representative said that this would not be covered. i contacted the dealer and they said that chevrolet would cover the repair in full and if they didn't then chevrolet would pay for half. obviously if the manufacturer is willing to do this when the vehicle is out of the warranty period then they are admitting that there is a faulty part. the transmission should not go out in a vehicle that has 47,000 miles on it. the vehicle has not been four-wheeling. it is driven by my wife to the school where she teaches that is about 40 - 50 miles round-trip on the interstate. the dealer said the repair costs was $1,040.86 and that they would split the cost with me. the reverse reaction shell part is less than $50 and if a seal kit was needed (which it wasn't) is another $160. labor ranges from the book from 6.6 hours at the independent shop to 8.4 hours at the dealer. besides being gouged on the repair costs by the dealer, my complaint is that this critical transmission part should not have failed under normal driving circumstances. i do not even want to think of the consequences if the failure would have happened on the interstate at 70 mph. the manufacturer needs to be made responsible for their products if failure could cost lives.*ak | |||

| We have had so many problems with this vehicle.we can not get any satisfaction thru the dealer or chevrolet.we first had a 1999 blazer.we had so many problems with it they put us in a 2000 blazer.we have had the same problems and more.on the 1999 blazer we had to replace the multifunction switch.it went out and left my wife stranded.we had to replace all the door panels because of excessive noise.we had to rplace the overhead console.t 47,000 miles the rearend went out.n the 2000 blazer they put us in ,we have had to replace the seat levers.at 34,000 miles the transmission went out.we ha to replace the multifunction switch on this vehicle too.the service manager at the chevrolet place told us that anyone driving these vehicles will have to replace this switch.there were 5 other blazers in the shop for the same problem when we took ours in.one of them only had 4,000 miles on it.chevrolet knows this problems exsists but will not admit it for fear of a recall.this multifunction swich controls al your lights and ignition.it can fail and leave you stranded with no warnining.we have had no luck in dealing with chevrolet.they told us to just keep bringing it in when something goes wrong with it.we didnt pay 27,000 dollars for a vehicle that we are afriad to drive.it now sits in our yard and we are not making the payments.thay can come get the piece of junk.its no wonder people are fed up with american car makers. *ak | |||

| Oil cooler lines were rubbing on wiring harness in left front wheel well. the rubbing caused a hole in the oil lines resulting in loss of oil pressure and oil. after getting this fixed i was told this was a common problem with this model. after inspecting the repairs i noticed a new assembly seperating the lines which will correct the problem. i am extremley dissatisfied that i had to cover the repairs, i personally feel that this is a safety defect. if it would have blown out at highway speed it would have covered the driver side tires with oil and make the vehicle uncontollable. *ak | |||

| Upon approaching the driveway vehicle suddenly made a noise. steering wheel felt funny. also, front left tire turned in the opposite direction that vehicle was going. when this occurred vehicle skidded. consumer depressed the brake pedal to stop. this occurred because the left front lower ball joint came apart, and the front right ball joints were starting to show signs of the same failure. the entire front suspension assembly needed to be replaced. also, automatic transmission slipped when shifting from first to second gear. meanwhile, while driving in over drive mode, the over drive disengaged and vehicle speed was reduced from a rapid pace to a very low speed. this failure almost resulted in an accident. dealership determined this was caused by a failure in the torque converter solenoid.*ak | |||

| Front passenger door would stick it would take all your effort to open it. they adjusted the door stricker and lubed the hinges 5/24/00. 7/25/00 door was still sticking again they adjusted door and stricker. powertrain- rear 7/25/00 reported that rear shakes and shimmys on acceleration from a stop. they could not duplicate. 8/30/00 took in again for shutter in rear, they replaced 1 gasket 5.399 sp 2 bearings 5.536 sp and 1 case asm 5.510. 6/1/01 took in for the air bag light staying on found history code for no communication between computers could not get it to duplicate. 7/16/01 air bag light check for history codes reset and test drove could not find problem. i also had no brake lights this visit. it had blown 3 fuses. they found that multifuntion switch was defective and was hoping that that would solve the air bag problem. 9/25/01 took in for air bag light again. codes that showed up were v1000, v1016,v1041,v1064,v1096 reset codes said that it was stating that it was not registering a problem wit the air bag. this trip i had the window lock overide replaced. all windows were locked except for the drivers. 10/10/01 took back in for air bag light. not registering again. traced wiring to splice pak 201 cleaned and reroute and reinstall buss. this trip the rear passenger door lock was not working and it was replaced. told me to call if light came on again. 10/23/01 light came on while driving home. called and took back to shop 10/24/01. it was not reading any codes. they drove car 140 miles and could not get it to come on. they told me the next time it comes on if in daytime monday- friday to call them and they will come and get the car, not to cut it off and they will hook it up to the computer while the light is still on. please help!!!!! what options do i have? does the lemon law apply here???? | |||

| I purchased my 2000 blazer ls 2dr 4x4 with 58000 miles. at speeds around 65-70, it vibrates pretty harshly. i have brand new tires, breaks, and my u-joints and bearings have been inspected and found to be fine. still have vibration. i have noticed via the internet that this is a known problem with blazer's and it is just a defect in the way the drivetrain was built. i feel that this problem should be investigated and repaired by gm. also at 58000 miles i had to replace the alternater. i spoke with the person who i bought the vehicle from and they said that they had replaced it once also, therefore this would be the 3rd alternater in under 60000 miles. | |||

| Problems that are not saftey issues: air conditioning doesn't work; door hinge pin needs to be replaced; driver's window slips off track to the outside of the frame, resulting in the back side of the window cracked at least a 1/4 of an inch (was told by friendly chevrolet in springfield il that this is a design problem and can not be fixed; called chevrolet and was told to take it back to dealer and pay them to reevaluate the problem; ) safty issues: ball joints need to be replaced;gas gauge sending unit doesn't work;;differential is leaking and plug connected to this needs to be drilled out and rethreaded to find out how bad the leak is; windshield wiper on driver's side loose and flips off to the left of the windshield in heavy rain and snow; electrical harnass needs to be replaced; engine insolation pealing off under hood; engine light on continually; car stalls intermitantly(first time it happened, was told the engine had overheated); at every start up, engine stays in nuetral (has no excellerator power)then catches after about three minutes); work done: thermostat hoses replaced;distributor replaced;spark plug wires and spark plugs replaced; sepentine belt replaced; part between the axle and the u joints needed to be replaced; oil leak fixed;fuel injector replaced; i have no idea what will go wrong when; it's like playing russian rullett while driving; have rented vehicle twice; will also need to rent vehicle for cross country road trip next week; will not risk driving this car; (incident date: first incident-day estimated) | |||

| Since purchase of vehicle oct 2000 i have been in the shop 35 x for manufacturing problems. ongoing problems include dimming of headlights at any given time and flickering of clock/radio display at any given time. service attempted to fix the dimming and flickering by replacing the alternator, but it did not fix the problem. they are now unable to duplicate the problem. it took service 5 attempts to fix taillight water retention problem (they sealed the entire assembly). the rear differential fluid was reportedly low from factory causing a grinding sound in my gears (it took 2 attempts to fix that problem). since that differential problem, i have had a clunk between 2nd & 3rd gears (service is unable to duplicate the problem). | |||
