On november 30, 2001, general motors (gm) conducted safety recall 01v-364 for the subject vehicles built between september 16, 1999 and august 28, 2001 to remedy a defective hazard switch that would cause a loss of hazard and stop lamp illumination.the hazard switch is contained within the vehicle multifunction switch.odi opened this investigation based on reports that some consumers were not notified of the original recall or that they had repairs done under 01v-364 but experienced subsequent multifunction switch failures.the multifunction switch supports the operation of cruise control, windshield wipers, exterior lighting and turn signals in addition to hazard and stop lamps. on may 21, 2008, gm notified the agency that it erroneously missed identifying 5,862 vehicles that should have been included in recall 01v-364.gm will now notify owners of these vehicles under a new nhtsa recall number 08v-231.owner notification began on june 17.the primary cause of brake lamp failure was a design change from copper to brass contact material in the hazard switch.this change was effective for vehicles built after september 16, 1999.gm changed the material back to copper for vehicles built after august 28, 2001. the remedy part for both 01v-364 and 08v-231 contains copper contacts.gm's data shows that less than 1% of vehicles repaired under recall 01v-364 required additional subsequent repair or replacement of the hazard or multifunction switch.this investigation is closed.

In march of 2010, my drivers side brake light went out but the bulb still lit up. it is a dual filament bulb, one for tail lights and the other for brake/turn signal. my mechanic investigated and the issue was a faulty switch for the brake light. this is a part that can only be purchased from the dealer. no aftermarket switches/circuit boards are available. the whole circuit board must be replaced. again on 9/1/12, i was notified that both my brake lights are out. i called general motors and went to my local dealership only to be told my vehicle is not under a recall. i researched and found recall: 01073 issued by general motors for the exact issue my vehicle is having which was expanded to include more vehicles but still not mine. gm is profiting from selling these dealer only parts when they fail aside from saving money by not issuing the recall to all affected vehicles. *tr

2002 chevrolet blazer defective hazard switch. because of faulty switch, i have no brake lights and no hazard lights. this defect is discussed on the internet. i have called chevrolet only to be told they won't cover it. this switch is mentioned in an nhtsa recall. this is a dangerous situation. the hazard switch did not wear out. how often does a person use this switch? it is a bad design.

I have a 2002 chevrolet blazer. the hazard lights and the brake lights on the body quit working. the brake light over the hatch still worked. the turn signals also were not affected. i checked fuses and light bulbs but both were fine. when i turned on the hazard lights there was a clicking sound coming out of my speaker, like there was a short in the wiring. i'm glad it didn't start a fire. i then did an online search for possible solutions to the problem and came across some recalls on my model describing the same problem. when i called chevrolet they said that mine was not on any of the recall lists. i had to take it to the local chevy dealer and they had to replace the multifunction switch which is what the recalls were for. i'm not sure why mine was not included either the original recall or the subsequent ones. i do feel that if there were any issues with this model they should have at least sent a warning letter. if someone hadn't told me that the brake lights were out i would have never known. *tr

I called chevrolet (1-800-630-2438) about a recall on 2000-2002 chevrolet blazer id#08v231000. exterior lighting: brake lights: switch. i told them my 2002 blazer brake lights, hazard lights, dash lights, tail lights, head lights, interior lights, turn signal lights were not working properly. brake lights, turn signal lights, and hazard lights only worked when you push red hazard pop-up button to the left and hold it there. headlights, tail lights, dash lights, and interior lights were all flickering while driving. i was told this 2002 blazer was not on the recall list, as it was built on september 5, 2001. the recall ended on august 20, 2001. i have researched this recall, and found it to be the difference between brass contacts and copper contacts in the multi-function switch. also the grease used in the switch. i asked them if i had it repaired, and found brass contacts, instead of copper contacts in the multifunction switch, if they would reimburse me for the cost of repair. i was given a case # and to get it repaired. the only i would get reimbursed was if another recall would come out in the next 12 months/ 12,000 miles which ever came first. and would strongly recommend a chevrolet dealer. i don't have $600.00-$700.00 to get it repaired at a chevrolet dealer. i believe this is a factory defect, and should fixed immediately! there are more chevrolet blazers with the same multifunction switch problems, not in these recalls. not all years are covered. *tr

My brake lights and the hazard light was found defective and repaired on november 24, 2008 at rinke chevrolet. i had to pay for the repair because the listed defect & recall for this exact problem was not listed on my vin#. i want my money refunded from chevrolet because a 2002 blazer is made the same no matter what package is included - brake light defects could cause major serious injury accidents. *tr

Someone stopped me and said i had no brake lights. saw there was a recall - id01v36400 - for a hazard switch carrier replacement. had the switch fixed on october 11,2007 for $187.01 but was told that vin # was not included in the recall. contacted chevrolet and they said the vin # was not included and could not pay for the problem. in june, 2008 another recall was issued for the same problem - id 08v23100 - but vin # was still not included. have filled out the forms requesting reimbursement but nothing is being done. in the meantime, the dealership has been sold and chevrolet says nothing can be done. at time of repair the blazer only had 65,000 miles. this is the same problem that occurred in both the recalls. *tr

Rear brake lights & third light were staying on intermit. white smoke is now coming from steering wheel after the brake light switch was replaced today. this switch should have been to the subject prior recall of blazer brake light and multi function break light switches. according to the repair shop, the old break light switch showed a burn mark. and, i kept the old part. we just drove it home and the break lights still stayed on and the smoking started which scared me so the shop has it once again this time to replace the multi- function switch. note: that we were told by gm customer service that our blazer was a few vin numbers off the recall and wasn't effected by the break light recall.......... the problem was in at the time. the repair shop is now in the process of changing out the second switch at great cost to us. *nm

Vehicle brake light switch sticks subjecting the trucks tail, brake and safety lights to over heat. had to disconnect the battery terminal overnight to reset. found out about a recall and called gm who said that the blazer was 50k off on the vin number from the effected vech's. we had gm open a file#1408511117 and told them that we were reporting this to nhtsa because we should fall under the recall for this known safety issue. *nm

I was informed by my husband, as he was following me, that my brake lights did not work. we took the vehicle to the dealership from which, i purchased the vehicle to have it checked out. they said the multi-function switch was bad and needed to be replaced. we paid $391.72 to have the switch replaced. i later found out there is a recall for the same year vehicle, on the same part, with the same problems as we have experience, however the vin # of our vehicle is not included in the recall because our vehicle was manufactured at a different plant. *ak

 1) rear brake lights and saftey hazzard lights fail do to an open circuit caused by switch malfunction 2) rear brake lights do not operate and no malfunction is displayed on instrumentation display. the loss of stop lamps and hazard lamps could fail to warn a following driver that the vehicle is braking and/or is stopped, and could result in a crash. 3) had gm dealer repair hazard switch assemby. nhtsa recall no. 01v364/gm recall no. 01073 has been issued on some 2002 chevy blazers, but the vin number for this car was not included in the recall list.*ak

I came across a 2002 chevrolet blazer ls recall #01v364000 issued on or about march 2002. i had forgotten about the recall when i had my car repaired at jim trenary chevrolet in o fallon, mo in march 2008. i later found the recall. the repair work that i paid for matched exactly what the recall was about so i asked for a refund for that work. they refused since my vin wasn't on gm's list of open recalls. what went wrong with my vehicle was what was exactly described on the recall. why wasn't my vin included? part # 26100837 was a part mentioned in the recall and it is listed on my paid invoice. *tr

Brake lights work intermitently, can get them to work sometimes by pushing the hazard light switch on and off, but may still work on and off. took to dealer and they were not showing any recall and would cost about $450 to replace hazard switch carrier if defective, if not it the cost would be $99.69 for labor to check it out. called gm 1-800-222-1020 and they said that it should be covered recall #01073a. gave number to dealer and was told that only some of the vehicles within ven # range were covered by recall and they would have to check into it. my problem with this is why did i not receive a recall notice for this problem when the nhtsa web site shows a recall and my vehicle fall within the range of vin numbers? and why does'nt the dealer know about this? *jb
