I have a 1992 camaro rs, 5.0 liter engine, there is a safety recall on the filler tube for the gas tank , loose solder joints etc. i took it to a local chevy dealer here in tallahassee, dropped it off the night before they looked at it. i got a call at 8:12 the next morning, which was only 12 minutes after they had started work saying they could not get the parts to fix it, because their service manager said the car was to old and they would have to call the manufacturer. so i asked why it was that i could go to the local auto parts and buy them and if they were not willing to fix it , i would call the nhtsa and talk to them. he quickly changed his tune and said oh no don't do that we will find the parts. so roughly at 3:00 pm that afternoon i received another call from the dealer, saying your inspection is complete, we did not find any problems. which really didn't surprise me that he said that due to the fact they never wanted to fix such an old car to begin with. i am not a mechanic, but i am a technical engineer and i know how long it takes to examine something to the full extent, and .4 hours which is equivalent to maybe 23 minutes, is not sufficient time to examine a leaky fuel system on a car. that is what my invoice stated and it was under warranty work, in other words they wrote off 25 minutes of warranty work and did absolutely nothing to repair or even bother to look at my vehicle for safety recall. why do i state the aforementioned? easy, when the gas tank has over half a tank it leaks like crazy at the goose neck right from the solder joints, just like the safety recall mentions. leaks right on the exhaust pipe and is going to start a fire one of these days and i would have to say it will be the chevy dealers problem since they inspected it, less than 1 month ago and found no problems what so ever. i have had the run around with other people, but this was more than obvious what they did. *jb

This was done on invoice 171017, but due to the complexity of this inspection i fail to see how this can be accomplished in the 18 minutes annotated on the invoice. the fuel tank filler is literally buried above the tank in the rear above the axle. this tank leaks now and has been since about two months after i bought the car. it has had a strong fuel odor since i bought the car. the service writer said that was normal on efi cars. i don't think so.*ak

Vehicle inspected by dealership tech and verified that the fuel tank is leaking from the filler neck to solder joint states that the vehicle passed the initial inspection of the recall when it was first inspected now in 2001 the filler neck to fuel tank solder joint is leaking fuel vapors around the exhaust system and has the potential for possible thermal event to happen dealership states that the recall 94v077000 will not cover due to age of vehicle fuel tank is original equipment and has developed a safety issue. chevrolet customer assistance has been contacted and is researching the situation.will find out the results on monday august 13, 2001. *ak

There is a recall on this component for my vehicle, nhtsa campaign id number 94v077000. the fuel tank filler neck solder joint is cracked just as described in the recall database. i have taken the vehicle to the chevrolet dealership and called the chevrolet customer care center at 800-222-1020, and they say that my car is not eligible to have this problem corrected. i guess they feel i am eligible to have my car catch fire or explode because of a faulty fuel tank! at this point, all i would like is for gm to correct the problem with my vehicle, in the future after the vehicle has exploded, perhaps my family will request much more of gm. landon ball.*ak
