Defect SummaryThis is not a safety recall in accordance with federal regulation 573. however, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. these vehicles were built with insufficient retention of the horn pad.
Consequence SummaryThe horn pad can separate from the steering wheel falling between the steering wheel spokes. the horn pad could become jammed between the steering wheel spokes and the turn signal lever, resulting in damage to the turn signal lever, horn pad, and horn wiring.
Corrective SummaryDealers will modify the horn pad retention clips, install horn pad retention brackets to the steering wheel, reinstall the horn pad and assure that the horn pad is properly retained.
NotesNote:general motors has decided to conduct a safety improvement campaign to modify the horn pad on these vehicles.owners can contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020.

 Horn button on the steering wheel pops out and gets jammed between the steering wheel and the turn signal. manufacturer stated that vehicle was not included in safety recall 96i-001000.gm/communcations: horn assembly and vehicle could not be serviced free of charge. *ak

 This consumer is not included in the recall for the horn (recall 96-i00-000), but is experencing problems with the horn. the retainer clip disconnects from the padding that holds the horn in plac. by the retainer clip disconnecting, the wire has disconnected and the horn doesn't work. *ak
