Defect SummaryVehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with the bi-fuel option fail to comply with fmvss no. 101, control location, identification, and illumination. the instrument panel lights in these vehicles are at full illumination levels and cannot be adjusted. the standard requires at least two levels of illumination.
Consequence SummaryThis could make it more difficult to see objects outside the vehicle when driving at night.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel type indicator switch assembly, which includes the instrument panel illumination control.
NotesOwner notification began september 14, 2000.owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020. also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

 Interior dashboard lights flashed while driving. vehicle failed to restart, and the interior lights didn't function when this occurred. vehicle had to sit for about an hour before restarted. in addition, there was a burning odor in the vehicle. four mechanics have serviced this vehicle,but could not duplicate the problem. *ak

 Popping sound and feel when turning steering wheel has been worked on two times for this problem; interior lights do not turn on when opening drivers door; top portion of dash is split in the middle; makes lots of crackling noise, sounds like something is loose with the suspension. *la

 Dash lights go out intermittently while driving. dealer cannot find cause. *ak

 When driving at night the instrument panel lights go out, also when putting vehicle in reverse the instrument panel lights go out, consumer took vehicle to dealer, and dealer indicated there was an electrical problem, had this problem repaired 4 times, but it has reoccurred.*ak.consumer also states the traction off light stays on all the time and bells ting at 65 mph.*jb

 Was driving vehicle when without warning vehicle experienced an oil & transmission leak. nothing was working properly in vehicle. there were no instrument panel lights, also, transaxle was found to be faulty. waiting to receive a new transmission from michigan to replace original. *ak
