| My 2004 chevy 2500 instrument cluster has issues. on 12-24-07 on a family christmas trip my speedometer stopped working. i received a letter from chevrolet explaining that they would cover this issue for 7 years or 70,000 miles. it seems to me if they know this is an issue why there is no recall for this. after many days of calls to chevrolet customer service they tell me that this is not a safety concern and that there would be no recall issued. now i ask how can this not be a safety concern not knowing the speed you are going? the next issue i have that i also feel is a safety concern is the intermediate steering link. this again has slack and rattles. once again chevrolet states this is not a safety concern but how can you say that a part of the steering assy. is not considered a safety item? *tr | |||

| Digital instrument panel failure ( speedometer, fuel gauge, rpm gauge & oil pressure gauge all malfunction at 50,000, now at 81,900 miles. we received a recall letter a bit late. the recall was up to 70,000 or 7 years. called gm when recall letter was received dec.17, 2007. told us it was too late to fix because of our mileage. if only we would have received the letter way earlier. now gm can not fix the problem for us, unless we pay out of our own pocket! and they knew that the problem existed! *tr | |||

| My speedometer is intermittently functioning. gm says that i have too many miles on my vehicle to pay for the repairs. this is a 2004 chevrolet silverado and gm has already extended the warranty on this item for 7 years or 70,000 miles. this is an electronics problem and mileage should not be a factor on it. the mileage has no bearing the electronic functionality of this device. it should be time and time only that dictates the life of this component. *tr | |||

| Tl* - the contact owns a 2004 c2500 chevrolet pickup. the contact stated that the speedometer hadn't been working for at least six months. the speedometer was stuck at 25 mph, even though the odometer was registering the mileage correctly. the problem originated in the instrument cluster. the vehicle was part of a construction company's fleet which included chevrolet pick-up trucks from 2003 - 2005. seven out of the 40 trucks have had problems with the speedometer failing. the contact stated that weather was not a factor in the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 85,118.*ak consumer states a 20% failure rate on speedometer sticking. update *4/23/07 tr | |||

| I have a 2004 silverado 2500hd(c/k) with 51,000+ miles. this problem has been occurring for several weeks and just started as i was driving the vehicle on the highway. the speedometer operates erratically by showing various speeds such as 80 mph while i am driving 25 mph or shown 120 mph while i am stopped. at time it might work properly but then jump to 60 mph while i am driving 20 or while i am sitting still. my dealer is well aware of this problem and will repair it for $580.00 i continue to drive using the tachometer to gauge my speeds and speed controls to maintain speeds while in mountainous or hilly terrain. *jb | |||

| While testing the brakes and lights on a 7,000 lb gvw trailer the brake pedal went to the floor. investigation showed brake fluid from behind the drivers seat and above the gas tank. the brake line over the gas tank rusted through and burst. another 5 minutes i would have been traveling on mountain roads with no brakes and pulling a trailer. vehicle was towed and repaired at my expense. also a days work was lost because i was not able to travel 130 miles home for my companion to work the next day. | |||

| On january 2, 2008 while driving our 2004 chevy silverado 2500 4x4 on a paved city street the two front tie rods snapped in half( driverside 1st, passenger isde 2nd) causing the truck to go out of control and skidding approximately 70 feet finally being stopped by a concrete curve. gm has refused to take any responsibility in the failure of their factory equipment. we purchaced the truck from our neighbor with a fab tech 6 in. lift kit. the fab tech company also refuses to take any responsibility stated that they have seen many tie rod failures with the tie rods on gm trucks for several years and that that they have designed larger diameter tie rods that are sold as upgraded equipment with their lift kits. my case # with gm is 71-591086295. the conact person/sales manager with fabtech is . *cn | |||

| I have owned 4 gmc pickups and have complained 2 times about spare tires mounted under rear frame that have come off on the highway with out knowing where from 1996-2004 ,i now have one that i cant get off and the dealer said they will cut it off at my cost yet you are charging toyota with the same fault and recall what about the people that own gm and ford products! why are we left in the cold. you need to due the same for the people that have bought american made, what cars my tires have hit who knows ! | |||
