| I have a 1999 chevrolet silverado extended cab truck. yesterday, the bolts holding the steering gear to the frame attachment broke and i lost all steering control. i was luckily pulling out of a parking space and not driving on a road, as this could have been a terrible accident. i looked on your web site under recalls, and i see reference to nhtsa recall no 98v242/gm recall no. 98062 that describes what happened to my truck exactly. however, upon checking with gm, they did not issue a recall on my vin number. it did not apply to my truck they say. it appears to me that they may have more trucks involved with the potentially severe problem than they have issued recalls for. i think they should investigate further and they should also be responsible for fixing this problem. it is very strange that what you describe in the recall is exactly what happened to me. this is very scary. the dealer has talked to gm and they are not willing to pay to fix it. the dealer has ordered new bolts to be put in. please let me know what you think. *jb | |||
