Defect SummarySome pickup trucks, vans, and sport utility vehicles equipped with a hydraulic pump driveshaft that can fracture, resulting in immediate loss of hydraulic power steering assist. on certain vehicles equipped with hydro-boost power brakes, the same condition can result in loss of power assist for braking after the reserve pressure is depleted.
Consequence SummaryAn inoperative pump can cause increased steering effort, and in hydro-boost equipped vehicles also increased braking effort, but does not completely eliminate the ability to steer or slow the vehicle.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the hydraulic pump. the campaign began on february 14, 2005. owners may contact chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438 or gmc at 1-866-996-9463.

 1st.- problem with brake booster, causing a major vaccum leak causing vehicle to surge and stall when acclerating on take-off. eventually engine would cut-off. after a lot of effort, dealer repaired that problem. 2nd.- 3/4 ton truck, hd towing package, everything supposed to be heavy duty according to salesperson and sticker in window. brake pads on front are for a 1/2 ton, light duty truck.vehicle does not stop very well, at times, brake pedal goes to floor with little stopping effect. dealer was notified during 1st. problem encounter. dealer made no effort to explain or correct problem. problem still exist. 3rd.- transmission malfunctioniong. i have had two transmission repair shops inspect vehicle, both said that problem was common with gm trucks. vehicle has been plagued with one problem after the other. dealer has been notified several times, even by certified mail. gm, or at least it's dealers neglected to notifiy me about any recalls, even after i inquired. what information i have obtained has been through this website, and local mechanics
