Tl*-the contact owns a 2000 chevrolet pickup. the contact stated that intermittently he his unable to turn the steering wheel to the right. lose of steering while driving increases the risk of vehicle crash. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and a technician advised him that because the warranty expired he would be responsible to pay for the repairs. the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 150,000. updated 11/12/09 *cn the consumer stated there were times when the power steering would work and other times when the steering mechanism was not cooperating at all and wanted to steer to the left. updated 11/16/09

I was driving my 2000 chevrolet pick up (4 wheel drive silverado) when, without any noise or other type of warning the power steering went out. i took the truck to have it repaired and the mechanic said they had done three or for of these. the problem is that the shaft in the power steering pump snaps in half where it has been milled to form the gear. this is very dangerous because it is very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle, because it takes a very strong person to even turn the wheel slightly with no power steering.
