For no apparent reason and without any warning (no check engine light or anything), i received an engine power reduced warning and my car's engine completely shut down while i was completing a turn in a busy intersection. luckily, i was able to coast to safety and park in a nearby parking lot. the car refused to turn back on for several minutes. once it did, i drove my car to my office and was able to start it and drive it without further incident for several weeks. then, without warning it happened again while i was on the freeway and has been happening intermittently since then. when i took it to the dealership, they claimed they are not aware of other people having this problem, but i have found numerous complaints and reports from other owners online, so i'm not convinced of their honesty or concern regarding this matter. they say they *think* the problem might be the master computer or at least that is their best guess (their words, not mine). i will be replacing it later this week. unfortunately, i'm not confident the repair will fix the problem. after gm's repeated and explicit denial of the power steering problem and how long it took them to admit there even was one, i have decided to appeal to you. at present, when driving this car, i am a danger to myself and everyone else who might be around me on the road...as are all other cobalt drivers. please, investigate this matter before someone has this happen at the wrong place and the wrong time and someone gets seriously hurt, or worse. gm knows it created a car with a faulty electrical system which could result in catastrophic failures and they need to take responsibility for it and fix it. just because they stopped making the car, does not absolve their responsibility to make them safe for everyone on the road. *tr

The 2005 chevy cobalt, as well as possibly every other model year cobalt has more problems than just the power steering motor failures. the speedometer no longer works in my vehicle, the low-fuel warning pops up no matter how much gas is in the car, the engine warning light illuminates, as well as the anti-theft light, battery light (the battery is brand new) and just about every light on the dashboard. though this isn't a big problem, the radio locks itself and cannot be used until the car is turned off and turned back on. the car struggles to get out of first gear and has stalled repeatedly at red lights and on ramps to the highway. i have had the power steering recall repair done twice and when i took the car back to the dealership in may because the power steering warning had popped up again and the power steering stopped working, they said it was not the power steering and they sent me home in my stalling, jumping car with no power steering. speaking to a chevy customer service representative, they told me to go have the car diagnosed (they did run a scan at the dealership and came up with codes u2107, u2100 and u2105) and that i should be responsible for the cost. i asked why they didn't suggest this at the dealership, and was never given an answer other than a repeated i should be held responsible and it's probably a bad ecm or bcm. the car is out of warranty and chevy offered 50% of the repair cost, but how is this a problem that i caused and should be responsible for at all? this car is incredibly unsafe to drive and i have read a number of similar complaints for this vehicle online. gm must be held responsible for their faulty vehicles. the power steering recall did not take care of everyone's problems and the customers should not be held responsible for the manufacturer's failure. ## vin failed ## chevrolet cobalt 2005 ## *tr

After having been repaired several times under the power steering recall, the problems have become worse. the car stalls, lights flicker, the low fuel message will flash despite there being gas in the car, the power steering is completely inoperable, the speedometer rests on zero at all times, various warning lights are always illuminated and the car struggles to get out of second gear (it is an automatic.) the dealership service center gave diagnostic codes indicating possible issues with the body control module and electronic control module and stated that it wasn't covered under the recall, but that the power steering motor had again gone out, but they would not fix it. the car has stalled numerous times on on-ramps to highways and in intersections and has become too dangerous to drive, but chevrolet has refused to acknowledge the problem and only technical service bulletins exist, though they will now acknowledge them when asked, as though the problem is not a dangerous one. the entire electrical system of the car is faulty and should be recalled as it is a major safety concern.

On several prior occasions, the key would become stuck in the ignition. to solve this problem, i would simply shift from park to drive, cycling through the gears. this would allow the key to be removed from the ignition. i figured it was a small problem with the automotic gear shifter, it may not be fully enganging in park. this situation carried on for approximately two (2) years, whenever needed i would repeat the cycling of gears to disengage the key. however, a few days ago the key became stuck in the ignition and the previous solution would no longer dislodge the key. i found the switch under the steering wheel to remove the key, but the car is inoperable due to the key becoming stuck in the ignition cylinder on a constant basis. upon doing some research, i have come to the conclusion that is a common problem with automatic transmission equipped cobalts. the shifter is not fully enganging a micro shifter when engaging in park, causing the key to remain in the ignition. it has come to the point where i can not remove the key, even while using the switch under the steering wheel.

My car shutts off every couple of minutes while im driving it also shut down on big intersection and i almost got hit by the car in back of me. it is very dangerous i was so scared the car just honked and was mad because it was my fault the car just shut off

My car shut off while driving out of a parking lot a couple of days ago. everything shut down. i couldn't even brake. i was able to put the gear in park and restart it just fine. however this is the fourth time this has happened. the last time being on the george washington bridge. the very first time was 2 months after i purchased this car. i assumed it was because i went over a speed bump that was larger than normal. the second time i went over a pothole. the third time was on the highway. so i had a mechanic look at it and he stated that i could be the alternator. this was about 2-3yrs after purchase. however my time was very limited. i live in md but i work in new york so i spend a lot of time there and leave my car at home. so i haven't had a chance to get it fixed. with this last incident i decided to search the internet and it turns out that i am not the only one with this issue. i found it funny that there were many others with the same or similar problem. i put in a search for cobalt shutting off while driving and found a couple of sites describing similar issues. this last incident reminded me of how dangerous this could be. i had my 4 yr old niece in the backseat and the exit of the parking lot was on a hill. feeling the car rolling back and not being able to brake would surely be considered a safety issue. on a side note i did have my car examined for the recall i was given notice about. this was completed last year. nothing abnormal was reported.

10/10/201141022
I own a 2005 chevrolet cobalt, the power steering and traction control lights illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle then began to jerk and become difficult to drive. the vehicle had to be towed to an authorized dealer and repaired under nhtsa campaign id number 10v073000 (steering:electric power assist system); but the dealer told me that there no recall for my vehicle, apparently they was base on the vehicle vin # instead of model/made/year of the car. the dealer told me i need to replace steering column which will cost me close to $1000 w/part, labor & taxes. pickup my car on the same day late afternoon, was able to drive home with no incident. however, the failure recurred the next day, again towed the car back to the dealership, the manufacturer was aware of the failure. the vehicle was awaiting further inspection at the dealership, in the meantime i'm driving the rental that was provided by the dealership. this is mfg defected problem, i should not have to paid to fix the steering column.

Randomly, chimes sound, gauges on instrument panel cycle to zero and back, power steering warning light, fuel low warning show, sometimes theft light comes on as does check engine light. electrical assist to automatic transmission is lost resulting in hard shifts. must manually shift into 1st gear when stopping to avoid engine stalling. parking car seems to fix/allow car to reset. has happened many times over past two years. had mechanic look at it first time. said every computer on the car had to be reset to the tune of $100. reoccurred two days later. fixed itself before taking it back in. now i just live with the problem because i don't have the money to let these guys trouble shoot and fix things that are not the problem. am having the power steering recall done tomorrow hoping that it would solve the problem but apparently it doesn't. problem occurrence is totally random. sometimes there is 6 months between episodes, sometimes weeks, days. it is really acting up after the heavy rains of irene.

The power steering light came on. i had no mileage or speedometer reading. i took it to mr. tire which was about 3 miles away. they put the car on a machine and found mil code u0101. they told me to take it to the dealer because there was a recall for this. i called the dealer the next morning and took it right over to them. they had the car for two days and finally called me and told me that they had to replace the tcm and reprogram it, clear the codes and retest. this was going to cost $500. i had taken this car to bob bell last june when i received the recall notice. it was repaired. after a few months i noticed that three or four times the signal came on about brakes but then disappeared and everything seemed fine. then this monday this happened.

Had the power steering recall done a while ago. never had any problems before. now my power steering failure msg will come on the dash, then the transmission will shift real hard, jerking everyone inside. car will stall out when you come to a complete stop, but if you slow down and keep rolling, it will just stay in overdrive and takes forever to get back to speed. car also never gets to operating tempature in the winter, according to the temp gauge. had the temp sensor replaced, still no change, but i do have heat in the winter. also at times my security light will come on then the car will shutdown while i'm going down the road. other times it will take about 5 mins to get the car started. there will be other times the car chimes 4 times and nothing shows up, then other times the power steering msg will appear. i have only lost power steering about 5 times with this car since the recall was done, and never before. this is a known problem with these cars as i've ben reading internet forums. this has been ongoing for the last 8-9 months.

I have a 2005 chevy cobalt, the key constantly gets stuck in the ignition, the last time this happened i was unable to turn my car off for over 5 hours. this is a problem for many reasons. not only will i probably have to replace that part but eventually the battery due to this. i've researched it online and see that it is a common complaint among many chevy's especially my model. i think since it's such a common issue their should be a recall for this. i don't see why i should waste over $800 to get something fixed that is more common than it should be.

*please note...the incident date is approximate. we have a 2005 chevrolet cobalt sedan that was involved in the recall for the power steering motor intermittent power steering failure. we had never had a problem with the steering prior to the recall being performed. after the recall was performed, we began having trouble with intermittent power steering failure - plus additional failures. upon start-up, we have experienced no power steering, and had to shut the vehicle off and retry numerous times before the power steering returns. in addition to loss of power steering, we have experienced the following electrical problems: traction control light illuminating random clicking of the brake safety interlock relay / actuator (without touching the brake). check engine light transmission going into limp mode...slamming into gear when shifting from park - or improper shifting while driving. random dash guage failure random failures of the driver's information center - flashing, etc. this was initially happening only upon start-up...but started happening while driving as well - nearly leading to an accident while my wife was driving on a busy urban street. she was fortunately able to drift into the turn lane and come to a stopmto avoid a collision and likely serious injury to herself and others, as it was vitually uncontrollable. in addition to the loss of power steering (while driving), the transmission also went into limp mode, causing very hard shifting and much difficulty in drivability. this has also happened while i was driving the vehicle. i am 6'3, 260lbs., and i was struggling to control the vehicle. i have also been in contact with other cobalt owners with the exact same set of symptoms. it is clear that the motor replacement was not sufficient to repair the problem, and - in some cases - may be leading to further problems as in our case. this vehicle is very dangerous!

My 2005 chevy cobalt has an electrical problem since i boutgh it in may of this year. the gauges go haywire and power steering comes across the screen and then my car jerks. when it first happened i could just shut the car off and wait awhile and start it back up and then be fine. now when i start the car and let it warm up before i even drive it the screen says power steering and gauges are going haywire again. now my car just sits there and i can't drive it and still making payments. i went from a 1998 caviler to this 2005 cobalt and have had nothing but problems with a newer vechicle. the chevy dealership told me i need a body control module.

Ongoing obvious electrical issues with an '05 chevy cobalt -- key won't come out of ignition, lights & radio go off at will, new battery dies every 3rd day in all weather. bought car used in '08 with 45,000 miles. problems started almost immediately and have been consistent every since.

Since this car was new, the car locks and unlocks itself regularly. if you get out of car, then return to car even within seconds, when you open door the alarm goes off. you cant do anything with car, without having keys in hand ready to shut off alarm. even driving down the road the doors lock and unlock regularly. have taken to dealer and they say nothing wrong. car now has just over 100k miles, and am leaning towards never buying gm again.

Chev 2005 cobalt 63000 mile on the clock , i purchased the car in december 2008 . in jan 2010 i was driving on a highway at 50 miles an hour when a chime sounded and the console flashed power steering . i did not feel much difference in the car at that time . this next happened 2 days later. it seemed that turning the car off would rectify the problem. with in the month, the car was experiencing the problem on each drive i took with in the first 15 min. i had a problem while in the school car park that it failed and i lost all control i was able to stop the car with the brakes. almost hitting a small child and the car mounting the curb as i was unable to turn the wheels. i contacted gm in late february when the incident happened and was told the problem is not something they are aware of and that maybe a patch on ice caused the loss of control. it was the following day that while driving on the highway at 50 miles an hour the chime sounded and the console flashed power steering . the car lost all power. it did not stall or run out of gas it quick working . i was unable to get the car to restart. i was lucky that i was in the right hand lane of traffic and was able to pull over to the hard shoulder. the car would not start for over an hour . when the car started i returned home . i had a mechanic look over the vehicle while it was working and no problem other than the failure of the power steering could be found . the car has lost all power and shut down with in 5 mins of the car running . the car will not start . it will be days before the start. it now when it starts, the chime sounds and flash power steering flashes and the car shuts down . this is an unsafe car . the problem is serious and life threatening . to think i could have taken the life of a child if the car had not stopped when it did . the car is sat in the garage i am not able to drive .

I have a 2005 chevrolet cobalt i think i got the car in like february of 2007 i'm not sure on the dates but i say a little bit after i had got it like about 6 or 7 mouths after i had bought the car it stated to do what it wanted to do like the power steering would lock up on me on a turn or when i would turn the wheel really sharp. my sister was driving the car and she was like you need to get this fixed before you have a wreck or something bad happens. i'm like i cant get it fixed the warranty has ran out on the car. then i would turn the car off and turn it back on and it would work fine. then on one occasion me and my 2 friends was going shopping and i let her drive my car and we was in the middle of the intersection when she adjusted the steering wheel and the car shut completely off on us while going down the intersection cars were everywhere around us. all the gauges went down all the light went off everything just cut off and shut down so we let it coast to the gas station that was on our right we could not do anything the steering wheel was hard so it took 2 of us to turn it. i think that something in the electrical system has a short in it or is felling because my lights when i put it in gear or out of gear the light dim on me and then my power locks don't work so i cant lock my car any time i want to. the locks sometimes you can hear them going up and down in the car. my car got broken into the other night and i have a police report for that because my locks did don't work there for somebody got in my car and stole something from me. if my locks would not keep going up and down then i could keep my car locked. but about a month ago my light on my gear shift just quit working. i have to like tap on it or put the gear shift up in park then back down to drive for it to come on and then it will go right back off. then i have to change headlight and bulbs around my car every other day cause they just go out. but it has to be electrical cause they short out. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cobalt. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the power steering warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. immediately, there was a loss of power steering. the driver applied excessive force to the steering wheel and was able to pull over to the side of the road. the engine was turned off and after 20 minutes, the vehicle restarted and resumed normal operation. the failure occurrence was consistent whenever the vehicle was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on four separate occasions for the identical failure with replacement of the steering column and motor. there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number 10v073000 (steering: electric power assist system); however his vin was excluded from the recall. the failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was unknown.

Power steering column and motor replaced for over 1,000 dollars also bushing. engines stalls when pressing gas and brake pedal. key wouldn't come out ignition and my car wouldn't stay in park. had to pay a locksmith to remove the key. headlights keep having to be adjusted. wheel bearing and struts need to be replace but i don't have the money for all of these repairs for a 2005 vehicle. its to many problems for such a newer vehicle. what is chevy going to do about this, how many more people have to die or get injured. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cobalt. she stated that while driving at speeds of 40 mph over a railroad track, the vehicle stalled without warning. within a few seconds, the power steering warning light illuminated and flashed across the instrument panel. she was able to restart the vehicle moments later and took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer replaced the power steering column due to electrical failures. the repairs were covered by her factory warranty. the repairs did not correct the failure and the problem persisted. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they replaced the power steering column a second time. the failure occurred again and the power steering column was replaced a third time. she also stated that most of the electrical components on the vehicle had failed; upon opening the driver's door, the horn would blow. the power locks would not operate, the electrical trunk release would not operate and the catalytic converter also failed. the catalytic converter was replaced under warranty. there were no additional power steering failures after the third repair, however the steering wheel would feel hard at times. there were no recalls for any of the failures. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 79,000.

2005 chevy cobalt car. power steering failure, speedometer and rpm needles jump up and down like crazy, engine stalls, when press gas and brake pedals, car jerks forwards and backwards, warning lights on dashboards go on and off. when steering wheel failure happens, very very difficult to turn the wheel, almost locked up. this happens almost every day now and it's almost undrivable. only 55,000 miles on the car. *tr

 1) occurs when both driving at low speeds and high 2) car completely shuts off (as if driving a manual shift car and stalling - my car is automatic). failure has occurred 3x now, twice at low speeds, once going 60 mph on the highway 3) put the car in park and restart the car. took the car to dealership, they kept it for 3 days and told me nothing was wrong with the car. *tr

In march of 2006 i was driving about 40 mph & the check engine light came on. as soon as the check engine light came on the power steering locked up. there was a clicking noise that came from the shifter (where you put it in park, reverse, drive). the car started to jerk forward at random & the brakes did not work. i pulled over as soon as i could & turned off the car. after letting it sit for about 30 minutes i turned the car back on & it had reset itself. i called the dealership and brought the car to them immediately. they kept the car for 3 weeks & were unable to get the car to act up while on the diagnostic test. they said that there was nothing that they could do. i had numerous episodes over the next 6 months including multiple times when i was driving between 60-70 miles on the freeway. they could never get it to act up doing the diagnostic testing. i took it to another dealership. they contacted gmac; the dealership agreed to fix the computer system. they told me that they were going to replace one of the computers that they thought was causing the problem and & just write it off since by this point the mileage was at 31,000 but the problem started when the mileage was at around 10,000. when i got the car back it was october 2006. i did not have anymore problems until november 2009. i turned on my vehicle & it did the whole thing again. i turned my vehicle off & called a dealership. i had the vehicle towed to the dealership & they kept it for a month and a half. while they had it i was calling gmac to try & get while they had it i was calling gmac since the mileage was at 94,000. while talking to the service manager at frank parra dealership & gmac the computer was never replaced; only reloaded. to this day the problem has not been fixed & it still happens at random. it has also started to have problems with the locks. they lock at random & trap me in the car or will not let me in. there is a definite electronic issue!!!! *tr

Electronic equipment in 2005 cobalt that was going crazy while driving my car. all the testing at repair shops could not detect the problem but when i would drive, radio and front panel lights would go off and on; brake problems, and engine would cut out, even at high rates of spead, then die when car slowed. replacing ignition cylinder and removing all electronic codes finally resolved the issue but was only a guess on part of many different repair people. why should toyota be the only one to take the blame for auto parts that aren't reliable? *tr

2005 cobalt chevrolet power sterring goes out
01/01/201025000
This scenario has happened numerous times: start engine, engage in driving after giving time for engine to idle down, begin to drive, all gauges go to 0 or blank out, power steering is lost, fuel gauge shows empty when driving with a full tank or less, rpm gauge states 0 when engine is still noticeably running, cid displays pwr steering indicating it is out. the only fix? turn off car, unplug battery terminal, wait 5 minutes, attach terminal, drive again. but the check engine light remains on for a day or two. this normally happens once a week and no dealers say there's a problem reading on my ecu/pcm. i'm so fed up with this. my car is a 2005 model and this has never been corrected.

My 2005 chevy cobalt has power steering issues since i bought it (11/09). the traction control light comes on and power steering comes on the message board. when this happens and i am driving it, it is very hard to control my steering and jerks when i accelerate and/or change gears. it also becomes a little harder to come to a compete stop. i took it to the dealer and they greased the wires thinking that it was a connection problem. it worked alright for about a month and a half but then the light flashed on again about 2 weeks ago and has flashed on randomly ever since. this seems to be an ongoing problem. *tr

My 2005 chevy cobalt has had problems with the steering starting when the car was less than a year old. had taken the car in to fix the emergency brake that had snapped and spoke to advisor about the steering problem but at that time it had occurred intermittently, they checked and found no problem at that time. following another broken emergency brake (that still does not hold) i again explained the steering problem that was happening more frequently and at that time i was told that the repair would cost about 1200.00 and that there were no recalls or warranty left (car had 36,000). there is no explanation of why it happens, it can occur at any time and may remain out for days. there is no way to prevent it that i have found. while driving it will go out and it is almost impossible to turn the wheel, i have had to completely stop the car to avoid missing or not making a turn or avoid another car then while you

My wife owns a 2005 chevy cobalt. she was turning into an intersection when her electric power steering failed without warning and she lost control of the vehicle. this caused her to be unable to complete the turn and was almost hit by the vehicle behind her. luckily the driver behind her was paying attention and was able to avoid a collision. the car had to be taken to the dealer where they had to replace the power steering module and we were advised that if it eventually failed again (which they stated may be only a temporary repair) that we would have to replace the entire steering column. *tr

Several incidents involving steering of 2005 cobalt 2-door. each incident occurred on the freeway while driving straight at 55 to 65 mph. front end of vehicle jumped side to side and steering wheel responded only with considerable effort. last occurrence was witnessed by highway patrol who escorted me from the freeway with lights flashing. eventually, dealer did replace entire steering mechanism (2006) and problem has not recurred. also have had to have braking system replaced as well as components related to the computer system. *tr

I own a 2005 chevy cobalt. this vehicle is my families' only means of family transportation. also, i have very serious medical conditions, including a very high risk pregnancy. the vehicle is my only means of traveling to my doctors and hospitals. at random times my car has shut off while driving, and locked the keys in the ignition. after restarting the vehicle it has trouble staying in drive, and starts to slip into neutral periodically. the problems usually occur while i am driving on the interstate. i have taken the vehicle to the chevy dealership in town on more than one occasion to have the issue fixed. they have changed items within the steering column and told me the problem is fixed. yet, just today, the car shut off again. i cannot explain how important it is that i have a reliable mode of transportation to and from my doctors. i have explained that fact to the dealership, but still have the problem. if i am unable to make it to the doctor of hospital, my medical conditions can take my life, or my unborn child's. i need to have the problem fixed, before i go bankrupt paying for them to fix what they cannot seem to find. *tr

The cobalt power steering randomly fails making it extremely difficult for the driver to steer. this has happened in many instances, with many people and should be considered very dangerous. you have to replace the entire steering column to fix the problem. there should be a recall. there is no warning before it happens and there is nothing you can do to prevent the problem. dangerous. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cobalt. while driving 25 mph the power steering warning light illuminated on the instrument control, and then the gears in the transmission began slipping. he had to exert great force to the brake pedal to stop the vehicle and shut the engine off. he was able to restart the vehicle and resume normal operation. the vehicle was taken to a dealer and repaired. the failure mileage was 59,000 and the current mileage was unavailable. updated 11/17/09 *bf after all the failed attempts of fixing the vehicle, the consumer was told the body control module needed to be replaced. the power steering would go out occasionally. all of the gauges were acting erratically. updated 11/18/09

My 2005 chevy cobalt power steering has gone out. when i am driving on the freeway the power steering light comes on and i am unable to control the steering since it fails. i have to pull over and restart my car in order to continue driving it. the more i drove it the worse it got! i drive no more than 2 minutes with my power steering light coming on and a 5 minute drive i would have to restart my car at least 5-6 times before getting to my destination. i feel like this is putting me in danger since i am not able to navigate the car properly. this shouldn't be happening! my car has been back and forth in the shop for 2 weeks now, and i don't know what to do. *tr

Was driving my car at or around 60 mph and the powersteering light came on in my car and the steering wheel became extremely stiff and hard for me to pull of the side of the road. i turned my car off for about 2 minutes and turned it back on and it began working normally. approximately 20 miles later the powersteering went out again. as of today august 3, 2009 it has gone out 3 times within 3 days. *tr

Driving my 2005 chevrolet cobalt, the steering lockup and a alarm appear on dash said power steering failure, to correct this. have to stop the car, turn off the engine and restart. then anywhere from 5 to 15 minute the steering lockup again. i think this is a safe issue. the car has a electrical power pump and is not the only car at has is pump, chevrolet equinox has the same pump and also the same problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 chevrolet cobalt. while driving 60 mph, the steering locked up and the contact was forced to pull the vehicle over. the vehicle was towed and is unable to be driven. there were no prior failures with the steering. the dealer stated that it would cost $2,000 to repair the steering. the electrical system was also defective and will not activate the air conditioning or lock the doors. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 73,000.

Ignition key sticks in the acc position at shut down about 80% of the time. restarting the car or pushing up under the key cylinder sometimes releases it. i've gone to two dealers so far and all i get is yup its stuck...maybe its the shifter maybe its the ignition. that's not a great response to hear. this is on 05 chevy cobalt ls coupe. *tr

I purchased a 2005 chevy cobalt in august of 2005. less then a week after purchasing the vehicle it was in the shop to be fixed. i have had problems with the steering panel (key will not come out of the ignition, button on stick shift sticks, can not turn car off without disconnecting the battery), i have had problems with the power windows and locks, i have had problems with the stereo going into lock mode - which in turn makes me turn the car on and then off again to get the radio to work. i looked into the lemon law and they stated since it was all electrical, they could not pin point it to being the same problem all 5 times of it being in. well, it has done it again now in march of 2009. they are stating that me extended warranty through national warranty does not cover this therefore i have to pay $400 to fix something that seems to be a default on this car. it is not yet 4 years old. i have had nothing but problems with this car. i tried trading it in, but i was laid off last year and make less money and do not have the best credit because of not working for almost a year. i hate this car and after the customer service and the problems i have had with this car, i will never purchase a chevy again!! this is something that has happened since i purchased the car and they say they will not cover it. i have found on several websites that others have had this same problem, but chevy says it has not been reported enough to them to say that it is a recall. wow! *tr

There were no events leading up to the failure; it just happened. the ignition control module has been replaced twice in 4 years on my 2005 cobalt. the first time was 2 weeks after i bought the car so it was under warranty. the second time it cost me over $600 dollars to have it fixed. the odometer will read ice possible when it's 80 degrees outside and the brake dummy light comes on all the time. the radio will display a lock on it and the radio won't work. just recently the rear defogger quit working. i replaced the fuse and relay switch thinking this would be quick fix and neither worked. the 2005 cobalt has many issues and i've read of others with issues similar to mine. new cars aren't supposed to have this many problems this soon. my car is only 4 years old and i can't wait to get rid of it! *tr

I have a 2005 chevy cobalt. within the last year the power steering has started going out on it. when you turn the car off and back on, it will be fine for a little while. i have talked to several other people who have had the same problem with this model car. from what i've been told, it is going to be extremely pricey to fix too. the electric power steering system is faulty and should be recalled before someone gets seriously injured! *tr

For the past month, my cobalt has been having the check engine light come on while i am driving, happening intermittently. concurrently with the check engine light coming on, the rpm needle drops and you can feel much less power. sometimes stalling also occurs, (most likely at stoplights/stop signs) and also occurring in groups. on days when the car is running with no check engine light coming on, there will be no stalling. the car will go for a day or two with no problems, but always reverts back to the check engine/stall problem. and there was one time when i went out to get pizza. i parked the car, went to the pizza place, and when i came back to start the car, not a light nor a sound was made when i turned the key. i tried this several times over a 20 minute period. the car was utterly dead. that only happened once, and luckily, after waiting for about 30 minutes, it did start up again. i have begun taking back roads only as if this would happen on a highway, the results would obviously be disastrous. *tr

I would be driving 35 mph and my car would rev up and down between 500 and 4000rpm i would be sitting at a light and it would also. i was driving to work i was in the middle of an intersection and my car stalled out i had to turn my car back on and pull into a gas station and my power steering went out. apparently the body control module went out in my car and in many others have experienced this problem as well. it's very dangerous! it's a miracle i didn't get hurt or cause an accident just driving along and your call stalls out in a relatively new car. *tr

While traveling at highway speeds (~65 mph) the car has shut off 4 times. each time car behaved the same way, as if the key had been removed: the engine stopped, instrument panel dials went to 0, lights turned off. radio stayed on (as it would if the car was turned off). the shut offs were sudden: there were no warnings (lights, sounds, vibrations) before shut off. i was able to coast/brake and pull to the side of the road, shift to park and restart the car each time. the first incident was in july 2008 approximately 100 miles into a trip. the second three incidents happened in about a 30 minute time span on the same trip in mid october. i took the car to the chevy dealership after the october incidents and they could not reproduce the problem. they performed a computer update. i had them check the wiring in january 2009 and they could not find any problems. the clock radio resets to 12:00 (when i turn on the car, not during driving) about once every 3 months since i bought the car in 2005 - i'm not sure if this problem is related. the car is an automatic 2005 cobalt, 4 doors with about 35000 miles. *tr

More than six months ago i was driving at approx 55mph when my car started to jump. reminded me of someone learning to drive a standard. had car towed to dealership, no codes, did trans service, 1 qt low (approx $500 w/tow). problem cont randomly, could not afford to take to dealership for them to play guessing game. finally took in begin of jan for ck engine light, no code, sent home. few days later started acting up again. let me elaborate...it will jump when shifting especially into 2nd, ck engine light on, t/c light on, speedometer gage goes goofy and power steering appears, oh and ticking in shifter. we have also had issues with the power steering going out. on 1/15 it started acting up while on freeway took it straight to the dealer. they pulled code p0742 and decided to replace transmission valve body (approx$2000). picked up car on 1/19, next day eng light back on. husband took to dealer told it would go off. came back on beginning of this week. last night on way to school & back experienced worse case yet. jumping, ck engine, t/c an auto-theft lights on, ticking in shifter especially when breaking. when leaving school power steering wouldn't work, turned car off n on 3 times to get it to kick in. i do not feel that my car is safe to drive anymore. and with as many complaints as i have read today i do not understand why chevy/gm has not found a resolution for this yet or done a recall. will it take a fatality to get them to react????  Beginning january 3rd, 2009, the 'power steering' warning has intermittently appeared and power steering assist would fail. this occurred about 3 times, between 30 and about 50 miles per hour. this is clearly a safety hazard. i also own a 2004 malibu. my wife is the primary driver. the same issue happened with her car. after fighting with gm and the dealer they agreed, as a one time exception, to replace the steering column for the malibu at no cost. this due to my customer loyalty. knowing the trouble involved and the likely outcome, i have not yet contacted gm regarding the current cobalt issues. the cost of repair is suspicious, around $2000. the method of repair is also suspect; the replacement of the entire steering column. not only does this seem to be excessive, there is little assurance that the new steering column is any different. it is not reasonable to expect anyone to foot this bill as a consumer. it is expensive, and clearly a product defect. i am concerned about using the car, especially on the interstate, thus rendering this costly product all but useless - and dangerous. this is not the only electronic issue i have had with this car. i need to open the bottom of the column to remove my key from the ignition (estimated repair cost from goodwrench - $450), and repeated blown fuses when i first bought the car, attributed to pinched wiring. a recall seems in order for this situation. thank you. *tr

Left blinker randomly will not work. i have tried replacing the bulb and the wiring assembly. started with just the front driver side and now the rear driver side does not work. worked after jiggling the wires one day when i was bored but after hitting a bump one time when right back to normal. i have tried putting the flashers on to fix it but does not work. all the fuses and everything are good. looked it up online and looks like a very common problem for chevrolets and 05 cobalts in general. *tr

I own a 2005 chevy cobalt which i purchased new in 2005. tonight while driving home a 'power steering' message displayed on my dash at the same time that my power steering went out. i was able to pull off to the shoulder of the road and turned my car off. i turned my car back on thinking maybe it was just a glitch in my computer and it drove fine for another 5 miles then the message popped up again and again i lost power steering. i was able to pull into a nearby gas station to attempt to see if i was low of fluid but found out its electronic power steering. since i was only a few more miles from home i was able to, with hazards flashing, drive the rest of the way home having to stop once more to turn off and on my car to remove the warning and to re-engage my power steering. i've read online about multiple other cobalt owners having this same issue and i think it is deplorable of chevrolet to not have recalled this by now. *tr

On 9/3/08 my husband and i were driving our 2005 chevy cobalt with 45,700 miles on it going 35 mph, we came to a curve in the road and the warning light in our car went off and it read, power steering, we then lost all power steering. my husband veered off the road because it was hard to steer, we then turned the car off hoping it would clear the error. we started the car and it then drove fine. when we got to where we were going we decided to check the power steering fluid but couldn't find where it was. we looked in our owner

My 2005 cobalt has had electrical and power steering problems ever since i leased it. intermittently, while driving, the instrument messages start flashing (usually power steering). the car then becomes very hard to steer and brake, the engine surges up and down. on aug 3rd the car was involved in a minor accident when it was steered into a curb, possibly caused by another equipment failure. i took the car in to a chevrolet dealer again, when it failed again two more times after the accident. both times the dealer found error codes. however, they said they had a tsb on this problem, from chevrolet which says to just clear the logs, give the car back to the customer and to perform no work. they are putting lives in danger by following this procedure. i have copies of the service orders to confirm my statement. *tr

The time the incident occurred was when we were on our way (my wife and i) to canada for a wedding, we got to our destination and the all of the sudden the car literally starts hoping down the road, then in the middle of the road it completely stalled. the power steering light came on the dashboard and then the check engine light came on. we looked in the manual, because we have only had the car for a month and found the power steering piece to contact gmc. well being in the city and all dealerships closed we couldn't do anything. we shut the vehicle down and tried to restart, the same thing occurred- we were able to drive it to a mechanic near by (when finally it was working) and they had no idea what to do because of the electric power steering. we gave up and finally went home to my mother in laws house. i researched on the internet and then i came onto not one but many websites via google on how much trouble people are having with their cobalts. we are very unfortunate and do not have warranty left over. so when it comers to replacing the 2000.00 part we can not. i really need my car to run properly -my wife and i live in the united states and its a long way home!!! i really hope we do not get into a vehicle accident along the way due to the power steering malfunction, otherwise our lawyer and gmc will be talking. at this time i want a resolution from someone! how can gmc produce a vehicle with multiple known issues and continue to sell it without notifying people how deadly it is. i am very upset and i will never buy another gmc product again. if anyone at this company can do some easy research and find out that there are so many people with the know issue of power steering out there. i want a resolution and someone to pay for the consequence. i need to be contacted asap!!! *tr

2005 cobalt door automatic.. since june-july of 2006, the automobile has repeatedly been taken to 2 different dealerships for repair or correction during the warranty period. the would act as to stall, shaky, and hesitate while driving. each time the dealer said they were unable to find or determine the problem. now, that the warranty is out and the car has done the same problem (july 10. 2008) the dealership says there is a problem and they will have to look farther into it.. i knew this was going to happen, the moment its out of manufacture warranty, they can find a problem with it. *tr

I have had my 2005 chevy cobalt since july 2005. at 800 miles i had it serviced for a leak in the passenger floorboard. it was in the shop 5 times before they found a fix. next was the lights flashing on the dashboard, specifically the check engine, brake and high beam lights. then the heater would not blow so it was in the shop to have that fixed. then the reverse lights stopped working and there is condensation in the headlights. now, two days ago, my power steering light comes on and it becomes very hard to steer. i almost had an accident when i couldn't turn fast enough. when you turn the car on and off it works again temporarily. i will be taking it to the shop again, but at this point it has 50,000 miles and is out of warranty. very disappointed with the quality of this car!! *tr

Car purchased on 3/14/05 from rk chevrolet. starting sept. 12, 2006 the car electrical system started malfunctioning. various dash board lights came on, tick noise from the shifter, power steering light and fails, and the gauges began to go crazy! the car also wanted to shut off, and has boosts of energy. the same issue occurred november 2, 2006, june 8, 2007, september 19, 2007(colonial chevrolet), and october 16, 2007 (colonial chevrolet). after we got it back from colonial, the same problem occurred approximately 2 days later. colonial chevrolet indicated that that could not fix the problem and they were waiting to talk to gm about it! they even suggested initiating a buy back. we have been in contact with gmac in detroit about the issue and no answers have given nor a resolution. currently we have to drive a very unsafe car that jolts, can't turn, and will not accelerate at times. we have been requesting at least a rental (safe car) until this problem can be addressed and no one has offered this in lue of a resolution. what has been done: pcm replaced: (9/15/07)body, throttle (8/7/07, 11/2/06), replaced: body control (11/2/06); shifter bind & ndash; replace slide, automatic control lever replace, floor shift replace, wiring /connector steering suspension ride control??< control assembly. floor shift replace (9/12/06). *tr

I had been driving my 2005 chevy cobalt coupe yesterday for about an hour and a half when it just suddenly shut off. i had the cruise control on and was going about 80mph and i have about 27,000 miles on the car. i lost power steering and had to coast over to the side of the road. no warnling lights came on before hand. after i pulled the car over, i was able to restart it with no problems and it drove fine all the way home for another hour or so. i have seen many other complaints on this website similar to this one. luckily there were no cars around and the road wasn't very busy but its disturbing to imagine what would have happened if that had not been the case. the car is going to be worked on tomorrow so i don't know what the dealer thinks is wrong with it yet. *jb

I had just over 25,000 miles and my first my power steering light came on then the car just started stalling and power steering locked up, also was making a clicking noise. then the car competely stalled and could not be moved at all. the dealer replaced the shifter. my car again was fine while driving on the highway approximately a month to two months then my warnign chimes were coming on but indicating nothing. after a total of a trip on the highway after slowing down to a mim. speed on non-highway my power steering light again came on and my car started stalling and jumping, steering locked up and car was making a grinding noise. i shut the car off and restarted, it was fine for the time and as soon as possible i sent to dealer for repair. dealer states it is the body control modular. i am afraid that my life my be in danger if this would happen at highway speed not to mention the lives of others on the highway as well other chevy cobalt owners. *tr

My 2005 chevy cobalt sedan randomly shuts off while driving. so far it has happened about 6 times. the first time was a few months ago. i was driving at a speed of about 30mph making a left turn crossing a very busy lane of oncoming traffic when the car just shut off. the radio was still on but if i pressed on the gas, nothing. i had to put the car in park, shut off the ignition and then restart it. it immediately started back up. i called the dealership right away and was told that because no warning lights came on they wouldn't be able to trace the problem and hopefully it was a one time thing. well then about a month later it happened again. the dealership told me to wait about a week and call back, well within a week it happened again so i called and told them i was bringing it to them. when i brought the car in they installed a flight recorder and sent me on my way. about a week later the car shut off again so i pressed the button on the flight recorder and brought it back to the dealership. the mechanics informed me that the flight recorder did not work because they forgot to put something else on my car at the time of the installation in order to make the recorder work and wanted me to bring the car back to have the recorder re-installed. i refused and told them i would bring the car back but they needed to keep it until they figured out the problem. on my way back to the dealership the car shut off again while going 65mph on the highway. the dealership had the car for about a week and claimed it was fixed for sure. they said they found the problem and replaced the ignition switch and power train relay. well i have now had my car back for two weeks and as of last night it happened again. i called the dealership and told them to have the car towed because i refuse to drive it. at this point i do not want the car and have no faith in them repairing it. the car should be recalled before there is a fatality. *tr

My 2005 chevy cobalt has shut off 3 times while driving on the expressway. the car acts just like you turn off the ignition while you are in the driveway, except you are driving 70 mph and there is traffic all around you. when we pull over and park the car, the car starts right back up and drives fine. there have been no obvious warning signs indicating that something is going to happen. the first failure was when my wife was driving the car for about 45 minutes. she told me that the cobalt turned off while she was driving and had to pull over and turn it back on. she was driving at 75 mph and did not have cruise control on. the second time i was driving the cobalt with her as a passenger. we were driving at 75 mph for about 40 minutes when the car turned off. we made an appointment with the dealership and told them about it. the dealership replaced the defroster switch and updated the computer. the third time i was driving with my wife. we were driving at 75 mph with cruise on a really straight stretch of highway. i was not touching anything and was talking to my wife when the car turned off. i pulled over and immediately called the dealership. the dealership drove the car for 40-45 miles and checked the computer. they told us that they saw no codes and could not duplicate the problem. they gave us the gm customer service number and i them regarding this safety concern. gm told me to take it to another dealership for them to look at it to see if they could duplicate the problem. this dealership only drove the car 8 miles and told us that they did not have time to spend driving the vehicle longer. i called gm again, the adm of the area passed on to us that, since the problem cannot be duplicated, the only things that we can do is to 1) attach a flight recorder to the vehicle and continue driving it in hopes that this problem continues and we can catch it with the flight recorder or 2) take a service man on a road trip to see if the problem duplicates. *jb

#1 i brought it back because steering wheel always was to the left even though i was going straight. dealer said it was fine, i complained to customer service and then dealer said they fixed it. when going straight the steering still looks left. #2 air conditioning not working, #3 liquid coming out of vents #4 cricket noises out of passenger side dash area. i was told air conditioning was fine, no cricket noises and it was normal for fluid to come out of vents. i brought the car back again said a/c is not fine i asked them if it could be some sort of filter (i am no mechanic) but it was. they had car all day, went to pick it up but they said dash was apart because they were fixing the problem with the fluid coming out of the dash (and i said i was told there was no problem) they had the car for the weekend. they tried to charge me for the filter and i said i would not pay for it because there was problems with that ac and defroster etc since day one. they took out the filter and put in an old dirty filter that did not come from my vehicle as the guy from the chevy dealership in malden said he found it in the trash, (has made my daughter sick). #5 while driving the car i was getting off of the highway into a rest area and the car just died, there was no power steering no brakes etc. the key was in the switch and it was not off. i started the car up again. #6 the electrical didnt work, they fixed that. i have contacted chevy customer service on several occasions and they say they will check into it etc and call me back, but they never do. i want them to fix the steering wheel, fix the car stalling out for no reason (we could have been killed) and put in a new filter not someone elses dirty filter. i don't trust the malden dealership. i have brought the car to the dealership on at least 7 occasions most of which they say nothing wrong. *nm

I purchased my 2005 chevy cobalt in march of 2005. i have had repairs done in june of 2005 on recall for air conditioning unit. no real problems until last month 12/2006. the car, while driving at 65 mph just shut off (no warning). i had no steering, no brakes and thankfully was able to coast to the side. about 5 minutes later i was able to start the car to try to get it to the next exit. the car was driving ok so i tried to get to my destination (slowly under 50 mph) the car then began to lose power and shutter. as soon as it started it stopped. took car to dealer and computer was fixed. no problems until 1 week later. car at a red light just stopped working and now has no power to accelerate. taking car back to dealer but very frustrated over brand new car not working properly. *jb

I was driving at about 20 mph after stopping at a red light when my car shut off, my dashboard lights went blank. i was able to restart my car and it has happened since. today while driving at 65 mph on the interstate, my car started to shake badly and i almost lost control. i tried to brake but it made the shaking worse. the car felt like it had lost power. i was able to pull over. i thought at first maybe a flat tire but no. as quickly as it happened it went away. i am very unhappy about this and had problems with gm cars before. you would think i would have learned my lesson and went with a honda or toyota. *nm

My 2005 chevy cobalt was towed in for the 3rd time in 3 months. it is not even a year old yet. all three times have been exactly the same - i go out to start the car in the morning & the car's electrical system goes haywire and the car will not start. this first 2 times, the dealer said it was an electrical problem & they replaced everything. this last time they said it's just a dead battery. if that is the case, wouldn't they have figured that out the first 2 times? something clearly is awry in the electrical system and it is draining the battery. i don't want this car - i can't trust it to start & the dealer clearly doesn't know what's wrong. i intend to take legal action. *nm

Electrical system seems to be defective. when first bought car, the fan for the heater would not work. finally, dealership took parts out of a brand new vehicle, since there were no parts made yet due to it being brand new, and replaced it. but, it still makes a whining when it is on #1 setting. the cd player would lock up all the time and simply say locked. according to user manual, we are advised to take it to dealership and they will fix that problem. upon taking car to dealership for that problem, they said there was nothing wrong with it because of course, it did not do it for them. so, we stopped trying to even use the cd player. the locked status occurs frequently for no apparent reason. like, when going over a real bumpy part of the road. all of a sudden the lock button appeared on the dashboard. i was afraid the car was going to turn off on me. sometimes the word lock comes on in the radio display and so the clock won't display. i have no idea what is wrong or why it is displayed. the real scary part, though, is when the dashboard displays the lock icon. because i fear that the vehicle will just stop running since i read that it does have an anti-theft function that will stop the supply of gas to the car and i wonder if/when this will begin malfunctioning. will i be on the highway traveling at 65 mps? i mean, more people need to let chevy know that this is happening so that it can be fixed. lately, the vehicle will not start. it just will not start when we put the key in the ignition. all other lights and things turn on, but the engine won't turn over. why, we don't know. dealer claims we must have it towed to them and not get it jumped so they can take a look at it to see what is wrong. has happened three times so far. still no resolution to this problem. feel that the problems are a result of the same defect-the electrical system. guy that came to jump my car said the cobalts have had lots of problems. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was returned to the dealer five times due to intermittent power steering failure and electrical problems. the steering wheel locked suddenly twice while driving, at various speed. the wheel locked on numerous occasions while the vehicle was stopped. each time the power steering light illuminated on the dash during the failure. the wheel unlocked after the engine was shut down and restarted four times. the following electrical problems occurred intermittently, all the gauges fluttered, the fuel gage showed an inaccurate reading, and the emergency brake light illuminated while driving. on one occasion the dealer replaced the power steering housing, but this did not remedy the problem. on all other occasions the dealer completed diagnostic testing, but was unable to determine the cause of the problems. the consumer stated the gas tank was full of gas, however the low fuel illuminated on the dash. the radio malfunctioned twice. updated 04/06/06. *jb

Upon attempting to turn the headlights on manually, because the automatic headlights come on a little later than i would like, almost all of the electronics on the interior of the vehicle come on. i say almost because the instrument cluster lighting does not respond to a manual request for the lighting systems to activate. the background of the cluster in this car is black, and when it starts to get dark out it makes it rather difficult to see. one would expect that when you turn the head lights on, and all of the interior lighting comes on, the instrument clusters back lighting to also come on. the car has been back to bobby layman chevrolet in columbus oh, 2 times for this issue, and basically the response of the service department its the way it is. *jb

First it was the engine stall due to faulty fuse box which they fixed. then there was the sun roof cap which fell of twice and they attempted to fix four (4) times. both which are under the cobalts tsbs i think. now it's the ses light with a p0171 dtc code or the air fuel mixture is off. i took it in three (3) times and on the final one they said they have no solution and they cant do anything about it. it is currently under investigation by gm not only in the 2005-2006 chevy cobalt, the 2005-2006 pontiac pursuit, and the 2005-2006 saturn ion. all which have the 2.2l ecotec l61 engine. it troubles me that they say they cant do anything about it and to just keep bringing it in when light comes on. that is truly a pathetic answer to this problem. they are costing me time and money and this is no way to run a business. this is clearly an issue they cant solve and that is affecting 3 different cars. there was nothing done to fix the defect except turn off the check engine light, no other repairs have developed for this defect in gm's vehicles. *jb

Two months ago, when i put my car in park, i wasn't able to get my key out of the ignition. i'm worried that my car is going to roll down a hill and hit something or someone. also two days ago, my power steering went out when i was driving on the interstate. thankfully i was going straight when this happened. as soon as i turn off my car and turn it back on, the power steering is fine, but if i go a mile or two, all of a sudden it goes out. very very unsafe especially since i have a 2 year old with me. this is very unsafe for everyone!!! both issues could resolve in a huge crash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! nothing has been fixed because i have been reading on recalls and i hope i can get this fixed before someone gets injured!

*tr

My daughter was driving her 2005 cobalt on a us route with a speed limit of 55. this road is very hilly and curvy. she was going up a hill and was approaching a curve, so she took her foot of the gas. suddenly, the car shut down. she lost power, power steering, everything. she managed to steer the car to the brim of the road. the key was still on. she turned the key off, then back on. the only thing she noticed different on her gauges, was the coolant read 223, it normally runs 184-196. she had no cell phone service, so she started the car and drove to her grandmother's. every time the car shifted gears (an automatic), it jerked and lurched. she was scared to death. i contacted the gm dealer where we purchased it and took it right over, driving very slow. they were unable to reproduce this, and nothing showed up on the computer. i contacted gm who feel that if they can't find anything, they can't fix it. i am scared to drive this car myself, let alone let my daughter drive it. i began researching on this site, and have found twelve other cases, listed under electrical system-ignition, ignition switch ,electrical system defects, and even under engine & engine cooling. they all did not show any thing on the computer diagnostics, the cars just shut off on them at various speeds. so far no one appears to have been injured, but what if you're going 65 mph on an expressway with a semi next to you and this happens? *nm

Dt:bought a new 2005 chevrolet cobalt in march. since then it has been in the repair shop 5 times. while driving 40 mph dashboard panel lights came on and then suddenly the engine died. when this occurred the key was in the ignition in the start position. dealer said it was designed for women so they may start the car easily. the ignition was designed to stop the engine if the key or ignition were touched while the vehicle was in motion. the dealer said chevrolet designed it this way. the second opinion from the dealer was simply there was nothing wrong. when the engine shut down there was a loss of brake power along with everything electrical. they did a diagnostic check which showed nothing. there was a recall service performed on the vehicle, but that was on the air conditioner. there was some sort of reprogramming work done. consumer did not know what was wrong with vehicle. *ak

Went out to warm up my car, as i do every morning. the car would not start. when we got it started , it sounded like a go kart or 4 wheeler putting. decided to drive it to dealer and had my husband follow. it made it about 5 miles and started smoking and sparks were coming from the exhaust. it died and wouldn't start back. we had to call in a tow truck to take it to a dealer. the dealer just informed me that it is an ignition module. we will see if that fixes the problem. this car had problems since the day i got it. when i got home with it in august 2005, the trunk ajar light stayed on even though the trunk was not open. took it in to a shop and they replaced a computer, which immediately burnt out while there. i had to wait an additional week for them to get another one in. about may of 2006 the car was leaking from the air vents and the passenger dashboard. took it in and the problem seemed to be fixed for a while. may of 2007 i had the same problem and took it to another chevy dealership the problem seemed to be fixed for only 2 days. it still leaks to this day and i get condensation on the dashboard when it s hot enough. my radio has shorted out twice from this problem. my trunk constantly makes weird tapping noises and when people are in my car, they think someone is in the trunk. my car is now at the third local dealership on about its 6 + visit. i see other people with the same complaints as myself, and wonder why we are all paying out of pocket for things that should apparently be recalls. my gauges also work by themselves, when the car is off and keys are removed. the dealers claim this never happens in their view. i am very dissatisfied with my purchase and would not recommend this vehicle to anyone. mainly because of the lack of concern from the chevy dealers to fix the solutions for myself and others that i have read about. *tr

Severe steering and braking problems. mechanics can't find problem. a lot of times, on the highway or at speeds greater than 40 mph the steering starts to shudder and make a machine gun noise with each rattle. the rattling slows down as the speed slows down. there have been times where i had to pull over because it felt like a flat tire, only to get out of the car and inspect the car and see that the tires were fine. the problem goes away after shutting the car off and restarting it. when braking while going at speeds 40 mph or higher the brake gets soft and mushy feeling, and doesn't appear to slow the car down enough, and the shudder starts in the steering wheel again with the rat-a-tat sound for every shudder. i brought this car to dealer several times, and the mechanics could not get the car to do the same for them. the last time, one of the staff members mentioned that there may be a problem with the electronic steering/suspension system ,and that gm was trying to figure it out. recently, i took the car in for a brake check at another shop - the mechanic said the brakes were fine, nothing' was wrong with them, but the car still did its shuddering. i' had two front end alignments, and rotation of wheels, still the same problem. i feel that one of these days the shuddering is going to cause a potentially fatal problem, when the brakes, steering or suspension go out. i also noticed on 6 different occasions that the brake light came on just for a second. it's never stayed on, and it didn't come on during the shuddering moments. the car stalled a couple times, but they were so far and few between. the back light on dashwas hard to read when headlights were automatically on during the day. *ak
