After parking vehicle i noticed a strong gasoline odor emitting from the car. took it to a mechanic who said it was the fuel pump leaking and it needed to be replaced. cost me $750.00. i see on the internet that this is a common problem with this vehicle. i live in and bought my car new in florida which is one of the states that is covered under the recall notice # 09v419000. i was never issued a notice by gm about this recall . the only way i did find out about it was that my sister owns a 2007 chevy cobalt and she received one. she also lives in and bought her car in florida. i feel that gm should have sent me a notice and also that they should pay for the repairs i had to incur on my vehicle. *tr

A strong gasoline odor prompted me to take the car to my personal mechanic. leaking fuel module caused odor, entire fuel pump replaced. i investigated why a non-moving part might fail and discovered a recall, limited to southern states. i called gm customer service and was stonewalled by [xxx], ext 42872, who was otherwise courteous. a leaking fuel delivery system is a safety hazard, and i believe gm should: recall all models and reimburse owners for repairs made for this defect. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Gas smell coming from inside and outside of the vehicle, took my 2006 chevy cobalt to the dealership after gm said to do so, the fuel pump module has a crack in it due to manufactured parts being made of plastic. no help covering the cost although there are recalls in several warm weather states but not in indiana we had a very hot summer which caused parts to expand and crack. i think gm should cover the cost of repairs, but the only offered me a 10% discount! i really hope my vehicle doesn't catch on fire! i am so disappointed in gm, i am not going to give up on this i will keep complaining until some one helps me cover the cost! *tr

My car started to smell like gasoline. i thought it was the fuel cap, but when i had some repairs done that were unrelated to the fuel system, the mechanic noticed fuel leaking from the top of the fuel pump housing by a small fitting. the plastic fitting had cracked where the hose attached to the top of the fuel pump. i took the broken pump to the chevy dealer and was told that my vin was not covered by the recall. however, they did inform me that if i still had less than 160,000 miles, they would have replaced it. i think this is unsafe regardless of the amount of miles a car has. the mechanic stated that there could have been a fire. *tr

During a drive to work, approximately 5 miles in travel there was a gas smell indicated in the cabin of the vehicle. the smell prompted me to bring the car to the dealership in greeley colorado where the technician told me that the fuel pump was leaking and could cause a fatal fire. the technician checked the current recalls and all cars in the 2006 - 2007 year were recalled except this model that was sold in another state. he informed me that i was to contact gm directly, when i contacted gm they stated that this particular car was not under recall. when i mentioned the other recalls on the same cobalt cars with similar problems they stated that there was nothing they could do to resolve the issue other than direct me to place a complaint with the highway administration. since this conversation has occurred i was instructed not to drive my car due to the likely hood of possible fire, i have been without a vehicle to go to and from work. since this is an on going issue and other models that have been recalled, i feel that i have been mistreated and put my families lives at risk due to a known problem with this model. any help would be a greatly appreciated, thank you for your time and consideration of this complaint. *tr

Nhtsa, i'm responding to an article that i read on cnn regarding fuel pump pressure line for 2007 chevy cobalt. my vehicle is a 2006 chevy cobalt that on 08/28/2012 had to replace the fuel pump pressure line that is currently being recalled by gmc for 2007 to 2009 chevy cobalt. i would like for the 2006 chevy cobalt be placed on recall list so i can be refunded the 695 dollars i had to pay for my fuel pump pressure line to be replaced. i' m sure there are more 2006 chevy cobalt owners that have experience the same fuel pump problem. *tr

My car smelled like gasoline and i took it to the dealership because upon research i realized that there was a recall on this car for this same issue. after the issue was diagnosed to be a fuel leakage, gm was contacted by rosner chevy and i was advised that the repairs to my car would not be paid for by gm. i contacted gm and i was told my car had too many miles and therefore they would not honor the recall. i was forced to pay 578.36, in order to get my car repaired

*tr

I noticed the car emitting a gas smell which consistently got worse over the week. i took it in to have it checked and discovered that the entire fuel pump had to be replaced because part of it was leaking gas. the mechanic explained that the fuel pump is above the gas tank, and they had to take it all apart to even look at it. i discovered that a recall was in place (gm recall no. 090226), but only in certain states (not mine). i'm no mechanic, but the actual mechanic said that the recall description matched the problem this car is facing. he also mentioned that because he had to take it all apart this problem was probably not from everyday wear and tear. i hadn't noticed any leaks until after i got it checked, and now it is leaking all over the place. i am curious as to why the recall is only in certain states. is the weather a factor? did only certain cars get this faulty part? if it is known that the part is subpar, let's get all states on board. *tr

Gas mileage had significant decrease on highway trips. after driving >50 miles and parking car in garage, garage would smell horribly of gasoline. upon initial investigation, gasoline was leaking from the top-end of the fuel tank in the area of the plastic supply and return lines via the fuel pump. significant amount of leakage found on car under body. symptoms match nhtsa campaign id number: 09v419000. car was taken to tom gill chevrolet for repair work where it was diagnosed to replace fuel pump assembly due to a cracked fuel supply/return line on fuel pump modular. upon discussing with dealership, it as indicated this item was under recall but is region specific. dealership made comments that it was regional due to cost of repair. this car was manufactured with the same components as the cars recalled in new mexico, mississippi, california, etc. it is unacceptable for the consume to bear cost of replacement due to region when it is a common problem with the cobalt platform. *tr

The plastic supply and return port on the modular reservoir assembly is crack, causing fuel to leak. this is exactly the same as current nhtsa campaign id 09v419000. however, gm told me that my vin is no covered under this recall. the recall should be extended to the rest of the country, instead just certain states. luckily, i caught this issue before a car fire occurred. *tr

The fuel pump was leaking fuel from the top of the pump and had to be replaced. this was a safety hazard because fuel was leaking on to the ground. this is the same issue other 2006 cobalt's were recalled for in other states, recall # 09v419000. my car was not purchased or registered in those states but it still experienced this problem. i want to be reimbursed by the manufacture for the repairs. *tr

We noticed a strong fuel odor coming from the car. upon further investigation we discovered a puddle of fuel under the car. we researched recalls and of course we were told they were for certain states. we contacted gm and was able to get them to pay to have the vehicle looked at to see what the problem was due to it being a safety issue! dealer found the metal lines part of the fuel pump module are leaking fuel. it was necessary to replace the fuel pump module. our dealer offered to pay 50% of the cost. we still have an open investigation with gm to see if they will be covering the cost of the repair and refund us our money. this is a safety issue. it is a defective part! no way should a car with less than 41,000 miles should have a fuel leak. just hope you decide to recall before someone gets hurt or dies!! *tr

I noticed that my car, inside and out, had a strong odor of fuel. since my daughter drives the car i immediately took it to my mechanic. i was told there is a recall on 2006 cobalts for this issue. however since i'm not in a southern state, with high temperatures, my car is not covered. this makes absolutely no sense to me since maryland has been extremely hot all summer. the vin number for my car matches the recall notice just not the state. i have no choice but to find the money for repair since my child's safety is at risk. i just think that gm should pay for all 2006 cobalts since they are clearly aware of the problem. *tr

The plastic supply on the modular reservoir assembly has cracked on my 2006 cobalt. fuel is leaking from the area. the crack is causing gas to leak to the ground. my mechanic has said this could lead to my vehicle catching on fire. it appears that cobalts in other areas of the country have been recalled for this same issue. i'm wondering why all cobalts have not been recalled as i have heard/seen many other '06 cobalt owners in others states are having the same issues. *tr

I started noticing a smell of fuel from my vehicle but did not see a leak. i took the vehicle to my local mechanic who noticed a leak, they were then able to verify that the plastic fuel line piece was broken which means the fuel pump needs to be replaced. i went online and noticed a recall on the 2006 chevy cobalt because of fuel pump issues. in a gm recall bulletin i located online dated jan. 2010 bulletin # 09226, stated that the vehicles affected had vin # with the last 8 digits between 67600011 and 67887442. my vehicle's vin number falls between those two numbers but according to a chevrolet customer service agent, who acknowledged the recall on the faulty part, my vin # is not valid for the recall. i took it to my local mechanic to get fixed because it is a safety issue if nothing else. i am writing you because i believe that chevrolet should be financially responsible for this repair especially because they acknowledge that they have had issues with the fuel pumps on the 2006 chevrolet cobalts. any help you could provide in this matter would be greatly appreciated. *tr

I have had issues with my fuel pump. the smell of gas and some slight leaking from underneath the car near fuel tank. car hesitates sometime and stumbles like it wants to stall. my air fuel ratios are all over the place as well as my short term and long term fuel trim. which indicates that the fuel pressure is not correct or constant. this could be a leak. however there are recalls out for this problem that falls under my vin number but not my state. i think that since my vin number falls under the correct recalled vin numbers and i am having the same issues that it should be fixed for free and not have it limited by states if im showing the same signs and problems. ## vin passed ## chevy cobalt ss/sc 2006 ## *tr

There has been recalls on the chevy cobalt in other states for the fuel pump. due to heat the fuel pump cracks and leaks fuel which could cause fire or explosion. we live in west virginia and have had high temperatures and our cars fuel pump cracked causing car to stall and gas leaking around area. because we don't live in one of the states that it was recalled in they will not fix our car. it is a defective part that can cause injury or death and to my understanding the ones they recall they fix with the same plastic that will crack again. shouldn't a recall be for all cobalts if all the cobalts are doing this or a warning label that says only buy the car if you live in a cold or cool climate. i can't see how chevy is getting away with this let alone fixing the problem with the same part! *tr

The vehicle developed a gas leak due to a faulty fuel module, gas is leaking from that part. there is a recall on that vehicle. the vehicle make, model, year and vin# match up, i've been told by one dealership that it was covered under the recall and by another dealership that it was not covered. i was told that it won't be covered because the vehicle is not from a particular state where the recall covers the problem. it has been almost a week of trying to get answers from gm to find out why the recall doesn't cover the problem just because it's not from other states, (az, ca, fl) are just a few of the states that have the recall on the same vehicle, same defective part, where the recall covers. the cost to fix the problem is well over $600.00 for a problem that gm is well aware of but are so far unwilling to take responsibility for their defective part. *tr

*tr

A noticeable gas odor upon entering and exiting the car was noticed. the vehicle was inspected by a certified gm service technician. upon inspection & review of recalls, it was discovered the issue was directly related to special coverage adjustment #09275a issued march 2010 & a product safety recall #09226b issued may 9, 2012. however, the state of ownership or registration does not fall into the list of states indicated on the recall. the technician indicated the states listed are hot, more southern states than the state of missouri where the car is currently registered. however, much of the midwest has seen much higher than normal temperatures during the last 30-45 days...temps in the 100 plus range. the vin also falls within the range listed on the recall notice. gm was notified to ask if they would honor the repair but indicated the bulletins are issued by the government & if the care registration or ownership does not fall within the limits set, coverage is not provided. wouldn't gm rather cover a minor repair bill than to be sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars when my house burns down due to this problem?? it doesn't make sense to me that although i have the same problem as listed in the recall due to high-temperature weather, and my car falls within the vin #s listed as well as year, make & model, that because i don't live in a more southern state, i am forced to pay for a repair that shouldn't be needed in the first place if the car was manufactured correctly. if it is a problem directly related to the original findings, it shouldn't matter what state i live in. i'm disappointed in not only my government but gm for not honoring this repair issue and would request a review. technician indicated numerous cars in this area have been brought in with this same problem. *tr

For a little over two weeks, we have smelled gasoline around the car after driving. the odor seemed to be around the tank fill. i frequently re-tightened the cap, thinking perhaps it was loose and the fumes were coming from there, or perhaps some gas had spilled in an odd place when the tank was filled. then, last weekend during a particularly hot week here in ohio, i opened my trunk to put the groceries in and the trunk was reeking with gas fumes! i am very glad there was not an ignition source close by, as i am not sure what would have happened! this strong smell persisted the rest of the hot weekend. at home, i left the trunk open to air it out. the weather cooled last monday and i have not smelled gas since. also the gas tank is now only half full. my mechanic looked at the car today and feels that the problem is likely the fuel pump, as there is evidence of leakage. the car is still running and until the leak becomes more problematic we will most likely hold off on repairs as they will be expensive. still, with the weather getting hot again, i am nervous about driving this vehicle. the strong smell of gasoline makes me ill and uncomfortable. i can't believe it is safe to smell gasoline that strongly. i called my local gm dealer and had my vin number checked to be sure it was not included in the existing recall for defective fuel pumps. it was not.

My car has been smelling and leaking fuel from the fuel pump. checked everywhere for leaks, but found none. i did find a previous recall on this matter, but upon contacting chevy was advised my vehicle's vin was not covered by the prior recall.

Getting gasoline smell, upon investigating found that the fuel pump return fitting was leaking, this is a plastic fitting on the pump head and cannot be replaced without replaing the complete fuel pump. contacted dealer (3) different dealers in my area and was told repeatedly that even though there was a recall on some of the pumps my particular vin number was not covered, however they might consider a cost offset but i wouold have to make an appointment to have it looked at and it would be a chargeable estimate.. this is a safety concern, if i did not happen to smell the fuel it could have been a catistrophic event.
