The interior of the vehicle had a strong fuel odor. the chevrolet dealership diagnosed a leaking fuel module and had to replace the gas tank, fuel module, and fuel pipe. while this defect is known to occur on some 2007 cobalts, gm states that my vin number is not part of the current know defect. the leaking fuel module recall should be expanded to include all 2007 cobalts.

There was a strong odor of gas when driving the car, and it is very hard to start the car. the autoshop said there is a severe fuel leakage, and they found fuel leaking from the fuel tank, and the source of fuel leak was the fuel pump module. this could be very dangerous, and there was indeed a recall for the car model, however, it does not cover car registered in my state. i suggest they include this state, and reimburse my repair.

My husband and i purchased the vehicle in question in april 2007, at approx. 50,000 miles my car started to miss, then began to accelerate on its own and lunge as i was coming to a stop. we brought the car back to dealer where purchased, we were then sent on wild goose chase, first we were told it was a fuel pedal sensor, nxt they replaced the computer, followed by the wiring harrness, this however, did not fix the problem, we took it back for a fourth time and the ended up rebuilding the head on the motor, car has not ran correctly ever since. we tried to file a lemon law claim but needed four reciepts to prove warrenty work, we had three and after the fourth when picked up car the dealer would not release fourth, that was a year ago. my car now has 88,000 miles on it, it is begining to idle rough again and when i put fuel in it, the car does not want to start, at first it will not do anything, and then it will try to turn over but will not start i then have to slam the fuel to it in order to get it started, once it starts it will idle rough and i have to keep giving it fuel in order for the idle to smooth. this is the worst vehicle i have ever owned, i will be hard pressed to ever buy another chevy!!!!!!!

The vehicle was brought in for a recall to replace fuel module for fuel odor? well the module was replaced with the new module kit(3.107). before this replacement we had no problems with the car and fuel odor/fuel gauge. now that we had the recall down there is a strong fuel odor and the gas gauge will read full at times and when the car is shut off and turned back on after driver .7 miles the gauge will say its only got a 1/4 tank of gas and we switch the car on and off a few times and it will finally go back to full but after driving it about 3 miles the gauge will go back down to a 1/4 tank and we have to stop and cycle the key on and off at least 4 times for it to give a somewhat accurate reading but after driving a couple miles the gauge will go to empty. even when the tank is empty the gauge will say theres a half tank of gas, i have even got stuck multiple times thinking there was gas in the car. anyway point being that this module kit 3.107 gave me all the symptoms of why it was being recalled and messed up my fuel gauge and the dealer refuses to fix it as warranty so because the fuel gauge isnt part of the recall. so i further investigated on multiple online forums and it seems everyone that gets this recall down has had major problems with the fuel gauge and a fuel odor they didnt have before the recall. so im hoping the nhtsa will further investigate this issue, this could be a huge saftey issue running out of gas in the middle of the road/highway/dark long dirt roads with no gas stations for miles. so please read this and check your cobalt by cycling the ignition and you will see after module replacement the fuel gauge is erratic/gas odor is now present. chevys cheap recall is just not cutting it and they need to look into recalling the fuel level sensor with the module cause this problem seems like it happens to every cobalt i have seen with this recall.

Our 2007 cobalt ls is experiencing the exact below fuel system issue, but is not included as part of the recall due to where it was sold or registered is not in the states listed. the gas smell/fumes and visible leak when parked at an incline are extreme. we are terrified to drive it for fear it will explode or catch fire. it was purchased used in mid-2010 from a dealer who will not even look at it without charging a significant fee, let alone the cost of replacing whatever it is that needs replaced. note - this vehicle is registered and titled in my mother-in-laws name. summary = general motors is recalling certain model year 2006 chevrolet cobalt and saturn ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona and nevada; and model year 2007 chevrolet cobalt, pontiac g5 and saturn ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona, california, florida, nevada and texas. the plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly may crack. if either of these ports develops a crack, fuel will leak from the area. if the crack becomes large enough, fuel may be observed dripping onto the ground and vehicle performance may be affected.

I started to smell gas when the car was parked in the garage and it is getting worse. the vin is within the range of gm's recall notice number 09226, but when i called gm customer service line it does not fall within the exact vin, even though it is exactly the same defect impacting the other vehicles that qualify for the recall. this is a safety issue and it is costing approximately $600 to $700 to fix. that is about 20- 30 percent of the total value of the vehicle. this could cause a fire and gm knows this isuse. they did provide me with a claim or complaint number. they need to include this in the recall before it is too late.

Started smelling gas. checked fuel system. found gas leaking from top of fuel cell where plastic lines enter tank. googled problem....found many, many reports of same problem. gm has issued a recall on this vehicle, but only for those sold or registered in arizona and nevada. i live in virginia. contacted gm...was informed my vehicle was not elligible for the recall because i was not in either of those states. my vehicle has 77,740 miles on it. this is a safety issue and should be taken care of by gm no matter where the vehicle is registered.

There is a recall issued for a faulty fuel pump on 2007 chevrolet cobalts but it did not include my vin number. i smelled gasoline both inside and outside the car. i looked online and found the following website showing many people are having the same problem. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/chevrolet/cobalt/fuel+system i saw that people had reported fires and i did not feel safe driving the car. i had it fixed at the place i bought it because it was close to home, it was a chevrolet dealer but is no longer and is now an acdelco repair center. it cost me $615.86 to get the faulty fuel pump repaired and i was told that my problem was the exact same problem as the problem in the cars included in the recall. i have called chevrolet many times and have sent them my receipts but they do not return my calls. i do have an open case number with them but have had no success in receiving reimbursement.

It's my mother inlaws car she started smelling strong gas smell inside the car and outside the car and gas leaks on the ground while it is running i looked to see where it was coming from because i am a mechanic it's leaking from the plastic fuel lines on top the gas tank they're cracked and leaking gas the fummes are strong i aslo notice online that they had a recall on the fuel lines cracking on 2006 and 2007 cobalt but i guess it doesn't cover virginia i don't know but it seems like we are not the only ones with this problem but i would for it to get fixed its a fire hazzard if the other states covered the recall for free then they should cover the other states complaints because it did get very hot and dry this summer and that's what they say causes them to crack something should be done about this problem it's not safe for the enviroment having 2007 vehicles leaking gas due to manufactures parts it's not our fault the lines crack it's the manufactures who built or made the cheap plastic lines my kids and her other grand kids ride in this vehicle it's her only means of transportation she bought hopeing it would be reliable thanks for listening

Experienced strong fuel odor in and around vehicle after driving. contacted dealer service department and scheduled appt to have vehicle inspected and repaired. owner researched the issue and found vehicle recall 09226a. when vehicle went in for service, owner was advised by service rep that recall was not for the vehicle and charges would apply. vin indicates it was in the vin breakpoints but vehicle was not associated with any of the states identified (arizona, california, florida, nevada, and texas). appears the gm and/or the service departments have misinterpreted the recall to mean both the vin breakpoints and the affected states have to be valid for the recall to apply. repair was done under warrenty. owner never received recall notice which should have been sent to all vehicle owners with vins within the breakpoints with no consideration given to a particular state.

The odor of gasoline around the vehicle after it has been driven. the dealership says there is a fuel system problem and there is a recall on them, however my vin is not under the recall list and i will have to pay out of pocket for it. the issues that are under the current recall for this car are what is wrong with my car, yet my car is not under the recall list.

My 2007 chevy cobalt has a leak in the gas tank, which is coming from the fuel pump. there was a recall on 2006 and 2007 but since my car was purchased in florida 2007 i am not covered.this is a hazardous car and can catch on fire. when the car is on a flat surface it leaks like a faucet. when in a angle it does not leak because of the position of the fuel pump. i call gm and they said since my car was purchased in florida 2007 i was not covered. that is not my fault. they also stated since i had high miles they probably could not do nothing anyway. i am still paying for this car, and this repair is going to be exspensive. they should be held liable for their defected cars they send out. they are lucky that when me and my daughter was driving in it did not blow up, this would have cost them more money than just to repair it. for this very reason, that is why americans buy foriegn cars due to reliabiltiy. its sad. i am a loyal customer to gm and i only buy their cars, but if i am considered a loyal customer, then where is their loyality to me. signed very disappointed gm loyal customer!

I own a 2007 chevrolet cobalt (vin number 1g1ak15fx77411580) which was purchased and licensed in the state of texas. there is a current recall for some 2007 chevy cobalts (nhtsa campaign id number: 09v419000). the dealer i contacted indicated that my auto was not part of the recall and i never received a recall notice. however, my car is experiencing the same symptions as cars that have been recalled for this issue. the symptions are: (1) gas small (2) noticable reduction in fuel mileage (from 27 mpg to 18 mpg) (3) difficult starting i believe my car should have been included in this recall as well. is there any way to address this issue?

I currently own a 2007 chevrolet cobalt lt. on july 19, my husband and i noticed a strong smell of gasoline inside the vehicle. a week later, our car was in the shop for repairs (not relating to the gasoline odor), and i was informed that the fuel pump modular assembly was cracked, and leaking gasoline. the mechanic informed me that it could catch fire if it was not replaced. the warrantly on the fuel pump had expired two months previous, and was on recall, but not in the state we reside in. it had to be replaced immediately, and the cost came out of pocket.

My 2007 chevy cobalt had a strong smell of gas and i found a puddle of gas underneath the car. i took this car to a chevrolet dealer and the mechanic said that the fuel pump modual assembly failed. i really think this should be checked for a recall. i'm finding lots of complaints on the interenet as this is extremely dangerous.

There is a strong smell of gas in the car when i start the care remotely. this is not the first time that i noticed this. it happened in 2007 when i first bought the car. i reported it to the dealer whose response was that they could not duplicate the incident.

In late march, i started noticing the smell of gas when i would get in the car to go somewhere. i just thought this was from gas being spilled when removing the gas nozzel after filling the tank. on april 3rd, the smell got extemely strong and i had to keep the windows down in order to drive the car. on monday april 5th, i took the car to my mechanic to investigate the source of the smell. the mechanic called me back around mid-day to inform me the fuel pump line had broken off at the top the fuel pump assembly, where the piece should not have broken. the mechanic also informed me, there was gas all over the place once the tank was removed. he quoted: it's a wonder the car did not explode i have since contacted gm via the 800 #, being there is a recall for this problem. i've read the recall information, it is based on state located in hot climates area for now, but this problem is happening in other states not listed in the letter.

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) loss of warning chimes due to defective drivers door speaker (2007 cobalt and & 2007 gmc canyon). i am current awaiting repair under the 2nd recall for our cobalt vin [xxx](gas leak & loss of steering defects not yet repaired). the letter received from gm warning of the steering defect stated a warning chime would sound and a message on the drivers info cntr would appear. problem is, the speaker where the warning sounds come from is intermittent. in fact, i cannot tell if i have the blinkers on without looking at the dashboard; something that's not always safe to do. even though this started shortly after the warranty expired; i asked the dealer to repair it because i considered it unsafe. if a car manufacturer is going to change the role of a speaker from merely producing sound for radio use to sounding safety warning chimes then the speaker ought to have an extended warranty. i am approaching my middle 50's and do not abuse the sound system in the car. in my opinion; this failing speaker is a definite safety issue. in fact, our 2007 gmc canyon is experiencing the same issue. i've recently noticed the drivers door speaker is starting to distort and realized after the cobalts speaker failed the canyon drivers door speaker also emits warning chimes. as i stated above, if the role of a speaker is to sound warning chimes, then it becomes a possible safety issue when it fails.  Tl* the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact had the vehicle repaired for recall #09226 to replace the fuel pump module parts#19168894w-module-ki. after the repair was performed the fuel pump, gauge and alarm are showing below red and low fuel level. when fuel was added, the gauge did not move. the dealer was contacted and was advised of the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. the dealer diagnosed the vehicle again and recommended that the contact only use chevron fuel. after receiving the vehicle back, the vehicle continued to incorrectly show a low fuel level. the manufacturer and service manager were called numerous times but had not returned the calls made by the contact. the failure mileage was 56,143.

We own 2007 cobalt our daughter drives. she started complaining in sep '09 of a gas smell but we really didn't pay her any mind. then, about 6 wks. ago when she had to drive me to an appt. i could really smell the gas fumes. it made me sick. i called huffines chevrolet lewisville,tx (where we got the car) & was told her vin # didn't have a recall. he didn't do anything else. then, i called a dealer in frisco,tx where my daughter lives. the mechanic dept. looked up her vin & said no recall for that vin # but you have extended warranty we can fix it. so, at no charge it was taken care of. then, a few weeks later i get a recall for the mra to be replaced as it can be dangerous?! letter states that if there is a crack, fuel can leak & there could be a fire?! besides the recall you have just issued for the power steering why don't you make sure recalls are sent out in a timely manner for mra parts in cobalt's as well especially as dangerous as it can be!!! i was told that her vin# fell through the cracks in your system & that's why our car vin # didn't get a recall? anything to do with a leak in the fuel area is a very hazardous issue. our daughter was inhaling gas fumes for months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hopefully there is not any lung or brain damage. *tr

Dealership and manufacturer will not honor nhtsa campaign id number : 09v419000 - recall on 2007 chevrolet cobalt - gm recall no. 090226 this is my daughter's vehicle. received a notice from gm last week advising of safety issue and pending recall. appointment scheduled with dealership for 3/1/10 and vehicle taken to dealership at 9am est. after 2 hours, dealer inspected vehicle, found no problem, and advised my daughter she would incur a charge of $250 if fuel tank was dropped and no problem found. called gm, who advised vehicle was not subject to any recalls, even though i referred them to the recall post on nhtsa site. gm advised to keep driving the vehicle until the fuel smell became worse, as the dealership could not duplicate the problem or find any evidence of fuel leakage. gm case number assigned. picked up daughter and left vehicle at dealership. contacted nhtsa via phone re: recall interpretation. contacted gm again, who finally acknowledged vehicle was subject to recall but couldn't authorize repair specified in recall without approval at gm district level . advised gm that the recall notice did not say inspect and replace as necessary but did say replace fuel pump system. the car has been recalled and specific action requires dealers will replace the fuel pump module free of charge was specified. gm will not perform the required action without approval at the district level and advises they will respond within 24 business hours. vehicle remains at dealership. *tr

My stepbrother had two chevy cobalts. the first one he wrecked on a country road where he skidded on gravel, his car burst into flames. fortunately, he was able to get out of the car. he replaced it with another cobalt. in january 2009 he had another wreck, single car. his car hit a pole and immediately broke out in flames. unfortunately for my family he was not able to get out, he couldn't get his seat belt undone and the flames were melting the interior causing caustic flames. the policeman broke out the back window to get him out and the policeman was hospitalized from smoke inhalation my brother didn't make it, he died. i believe this should be checked out. i wrote to chevrolet with no response. *tr

I received a safety recall notice and i called mission chevrolet in el paso tx to schedule and appointment as per the recall notice, i spoke to a representative in the service department and he told me that i could not schedule an appointment since he did not anticipate having parts available because he was only receiving 15 parts and they would be used for first come first serve customers. i work full time and am a distance away from the dealership so i have to have an appointment and according to him the recall check would require my leaving car for the day. all of which is quite different to what was described on the recall notice of a 15 minute check and an hour and a half replacement time if necessary. so now i am at a disadvantage if i can not take care of this issue and could be jeopardizing my safety. *tr

Problem: i have a 2007 chevy cobalt that is leaking fuel from under the car at the gas tank. i called the parts department were we purchased the car to see were the fuel filter is located. he told me that just yesterday a customer came in who owned the same year and model who also had a leak at the same location at the fuel tank. the parts person told me that the fuel pump is in the tank. the smell of gasoline in the car is extremely bad. it almost smells like it is leaking into the car. question: is this a problem that other 2007 chevy customers are having? what can i do about this dangerous situation? *tr

Yesterday i filled up the car with gas and i smelled the gasoline. i checked out my car and i found out that my gas tank was leaking from the connector that connects the gas tank to the rubber hose that leads to the metal pipe that you insert gas from. this happened two times after filling up completely. it appears that the weld process that seals the connector to the gas tank was not sealed properly and started to crack. today i had to replace my gas tank for the first time and i don't believe i am going to be the only one with this problem. personally i think its a problem chevrolet has had for awhile. i also heard on the radio that the new version of the trial blazers had a recall on their gasoline tanks for leaking problems too. my purpose for my complaint is to prevent this from happening to anyone else and notify chevrolet of the problem so they can fix it. yes i do still have the old part. *tr

I began to smell a strong odor of gasoline from time to time when driving my car. over time, the smell became stronger and i noticed i was having to fill my tank more frequently. it got to the point where i could actually see a leak underneath of my car. i took it to an autoshop to be looked at and they mentioned work needing to be done on my fuel pump, but i found out about a recall on 2007 and 2006 chevrolet cobalts (i drive a 2007 chevrolet cobalt). the recall mentioned a leak, an odor and a problem with the fuel pump. i contacted chevrolet and was told that the recall didn't concern my specific vin. i'm still extremely concerned, seeing as the problems i'm having with my chevrolet cobalt sound identical to the issues raised in the recall of these other chevrolet cobalts. i've already had to take my cobalt to the dealership because of the power steering recall. fyi, see below. thank you! recall date: oct 29, 2009 model affected: 2007 chevrolet cobalt summary: general motors is recalling certain model year 2006 chevrolet cobalt and saturn ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona and nevada; and model year 2007 chevrolet cobalt, pontiac g5 and saturn ion vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of arizona, california, florida, nevada and texas. the plastic supply or return port on the modular reservoir assembly may crack. if either of these ports develops a crack, fuel will leak from the area. if the crack becomes large enough, fuel may be observed dripping onto the ground and vehicle performance may be affected. consequence: fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
