There was the smell of gas in the car. when i took it in. the repair shop said that the top of the fuel was leaking and that it had been recalled on other models but not mine. further it did not appear to be an ordinary wear and tear problem. the part is e3726m fp module assembly. *tr

We started to smell gasoline everytime we walked by or got into the car. about a week later friends would say your car smells of gasoline. we took car to a local gm dealership asked if a problem or recall existed on the 2007 cobalt. we where told that no problem or recall exsisted at that time. two gm employees walked around the car with us and we figured the gas to be leaking near the fuel tank. finances where an issue at that time , as payments are still owed on the car, finally in february of 2013 leak seemed to be worse. took car to a local gargage and paid $ 427.58 to replace the intire fuel pump assembly for a pinhole / small crack in a fuel line attached to the fuel pump. driving the car in this condition was very stressful, thinking of a fire or explosion. just seeking a refund on this issue, thanks.

Started smelling gasoline so i took the car into ed bozart and they said that my vin was not included in a recall for the fuel pump and that it would cost $700 to replace it and the filter. the service person said that there were recalls for the fuel pump but my vin number was not included. my car only has 33,000 miles on it and it should not have problem until 75,000 to 124,000 miles. i would like to see what i can do to recouple my expenses. *tr

On 02/16/2013 while my car was parked attention was brought to a substance leaking from my vehicle upon further investigation it was determined to be gas leaking out of my gas tank. i took my car to chevy because i discovered that other people had this same problem and that there had been a recall. the dealership then informed me there had been a recall but not for my vin. *tr

Cobalt began noticeably loosing fuel and appeared to be losing power when gas pedal was pushed. shortly thereafter the check engine light came on. within a few days every time the car was driven the loss of power while driving progressively got worse. drove the car to a certified gm mechanic at the local chevy dealership for a diagnostic check who stated the car needed a new motor; ($ 3000.00). had to have the vehicle towed from the certified chevy repair shop to a different mechanic because it now would not even start, which new (honest) mechanic said there is a major problem with the fuel pump/fuel propulsion system. consequently while doing some research online we are now finding many complaints similar to ours on this make and model but for some reason due to our geological location our vehicles are not under the 2009 recall for fuel/propulsion issues? is appears obvious that it is a manufacturing issue that should cover all 2007 chevy cobalts not just some in a few select locations. *tr

We took our 2007 chevy cobalt into our chevy dealership here in roseville,ca to get our recalled fuel sensor replaced. we were then notified that our fuel tank needed to be replaced due to a crack in it, and that we are now looking at an $800+ repair for a new fuel tank. this car has never been in an accident or anything, so i know it did not crack from that. after doing a little bit of research i have found that a number of people are being affected by a) the sensor failure, outside of qualified states, and are not being addressed, and b) a number are getting the same call from dealerships about their whole fuel tank needing to be replaced due to this cracking. to me it seems that chevy probably used the same materials on the fuel tank as they did this sensor that needs replacing due to heat. now along with the sensors cracking, the tanks are doing the same only they are not covering them in a recall. i find it hard to believe that these complaints are just coincidence and that i can find a handful of complaints online about the same thing, who knows how many people have been affected by this issue and are now set back over $1000 for the repair. http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2007/chevrolet/cobalt/fuel+system. *tr

The plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module in my vehicle has cracked which caused a fuel leak. i started to notice a strong odor of gasoline on the passenger side of my vehicle in late august. i called a local chevy dealer and took my car in to have it checked out. i was informed that there was a recall for the fuel pump module for some 2007 chevy cobalt and while my vin was within the affected numbers, my vehicle was not covered because of the state where it was purchased/ i reside. i have two young children and am not happy that gm would allow owners of their product be in danger when they know they have produced a faulty product. if recalls were issued in arizona, california, florida, nevada, and texas why do the rest of us have to deal with it???? i read in usa today that gm would offer a repair to those experiencing this issue who were within a certain mileage but have not heard anything more from gm on this issue. but the company also plans to send letters to owners in other states offering a free repair within a limited time period if the parts are cracked. that offer is valid for 10 years or 120,000 miles from the date the vehicle was sold, spokesman alan adler said.  I started to smell a strong odor of gas and called to schedule an appointment with a local dealer. they discovered a fuel leak possibly from a crack in the fuel pump. unfortunately, my car isn't covered in the recall because i don't live in one of the affected states. smell is so bad we don't drive the car with our kids in it anymore - causes headaches. waiting for gm to mail letters about this issue to everyone who is affected regardless of where they live. according to an article from october 2012 ..the company also plans to send letters to owners in other states offering a free repair within a limited time period if the parts are cracked. ---> hurry up gm before someone who isn't covered but has this gas leak gets hurt. read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/gm-recalls-41-000-vehicles-article-1.1171884#ixzz2erzwqv4y. *tr

The plastic supply and return port on the modular reservoir assembly is cracked. fuel is leaking from the area. fuel can be observed dripping onto the ground. i am extremely worried about a fire. i have contacted a dealership about the issue and they have said my vin is not included in the recall and the repair will be close to $700. this appears to be a common problem with this model year and make of vehicle as i searched online and there were thousands of similar issues that are outside of the affected area. *tr

Started noticing strong gas smell with or without the car being on. also hard to start. took the car to get the power steering recall fixed at our dealers, they checked the fuel system because of the strong gas smell and said the fuel line was probably cracked. looked to see if it was under recall. not for our state. had to sign a paper saying our car was unsafe to drive. we live 10 miles from 2 states that this is a recall in. called chevy and was told they would do nothing for us because the recall is not in our state. i want this fixed. its time you stood by your products. *tr

I received a recall notice for the fuel pump which indicated that the fuel pump module may crack and cause a fuel leak. as the technician was in the process of removing the gas tank to address the fuel pump recall issue, he identified a fuel leak at the filler neck on or to the gas tank. in the end, i had to replace the gas tank, but the fuel pump recall did not cover the cost. i am reporting this because i believe this could be a safety hazard due to a fuel leak. i did not find a recall for this issue. *tr

My 2007 chevy cobalt started smelling very strongly of gas fumes- so much so that i was afraid to start it in the garage & began parking it outside. i then noticed puddles on the ground and my gas mileage dropped drastically from my average 30-32 highway mpg to about 18-19 mpg. i am currently overseas on military orders in germany. i had to wait for an appointment and got the car checked out and was told it has a major gas leak and is not safe to drive. it has a crack in the fuel pump and needs to be replaced. my complaint is that the recall on this defective fuel pump is limited to warm weather states. a defective part is a safety concern that knows no geographical boundaries. i have been accumulating a lot of debt from having to have a rental car, which i am driving for safety reasons, until i can get an answer as to whether gm will replace my defective fuel pump. i should not bear the burden of the cost in addition to the inconvenience due to a known & recalled defective part based on my geographical location. *tr

My car began smelling of gasoline and got worse over a few days. i took it to my repair shop and they had to replace the fuel pump. i then saw that there was a recall for this very same problem. i called gm and was told there was nothing they could do because i took it to an unauthorized shop for repair. was i suppose to drive around in a car leaking gas until i could get to a shop they liked? i read on the internet that i was eligible for a reimbursement if i had already made the repair. *tr

I have read recalls on 2007 chevy cobalts for the fuel system having a crack in the line causing a fuel leak, but the recalls are for certain states. my car was first purchased in indiana-auctioned in ohio. i have contacted gm and they state this vehicle does not have the recall, but it is the same problem as the other recalls in the other states. i think it should be investigated, if you search the web on common posts related people have this same problem and have to pay a lot of money to get it fixed when it seems to be a recall. *tr

A week ago we noticed a strong gas odor coming from the car when parked.this morning, i started to car to let it warm up and noticed gas leaking out of the fuel tank. so i took the car to a friends auto repair shop this morning to find out that there's a recall for the exact same problem. recall #09226b my friend suggested i take the car to the local dealer (wagner gmc) in belleville, il. so i drove to the dealer with the recall in hand only to be told that this recall only applied to vehicles made in fl, ca, az, nv & tx. so as i stood in the dealers repair shop with gas dripping out of the tank, i was told the repair would cost me $572.00. i think this is a horrible mistake on gm's behalf that could have deadly consequences. i only feel fortunate that my family doesn't smoke. i hate to think what would have happened if our car would have came into contact with an ignition source. i also call the gm hotline to inquire about the recall, only to be told the same thing. i expressed my concern that my car is experiencing the same conditions listed in their recall notice, regardless of where it was made. the dealer then called me back to inform me that their gm rep said they would cover 50% of the repair cost. so the why i see it is that's a 50% admission of guilt?? i'm just curious to see if there's been any other complaints about this same problem. it really has the potential to be a deadly situation. *tr

Started noticing a strong fuel smell outside of my 2007 cobalt and it quickly got worse and eventually had such a strong odor inside my car that i had to keep the window cracked any time i was in my car. i took my car into the dealership and was informed there was a fuel leak and i had to have the fuel pump module replaced. i was very upset that there was a recall on that very issue but it only applied to a couple of states. then a few weeks after repairs are made on my car the recall is extended to include a handful more states but still missouri was not included so i can not get reimbursed for my expense. obviously there is a known defect; yet i had to come up with almost $600 to take care of it myself because i do not live in one of the covered states. i am curious to know why the safety of the people in those states are more valuable than myself and many other affected owners.

I first noticed a faint smell of gas as i would drive the car. over a period of about 2 weeks, it got so strong i would be nauseous by the time i got to work. my car also had difficulty starting. since my warranty had expired, i went to my mechanic and not the dealer due to a better price for the work. he discovered a crack and i had a fuel leak, which he promptly fixed. i have the receipt and documentation for the work. now there is a recall, but not in my state. it's the same problem. what can i do? should i notify general motors or wait and see if i do get a recall? any information would be appreciated.

I started smelling gas. i took it to my mechanic who told me my fuel pump is leaking and is bad. there is a recall on the fuel pumps of 2007-2009 cobolts only in some warm weather states. i don't understand why there isn't a national recall because and kind of spark could start a fire.

My 2007 chevy cobalt was purchased new february 2007. my vehicle only had 24,800 miles on it when i started smelling gas in july of this year 2012, this year. i took my car to get a oil change and the mechanic told me there was a leak under the vehicle and to have it checked out by a mechanic. that it was a dangerous situation. i went home and checked on line about gas leaks on a 2007 chevy cobalt and found out that there was a recall on these model cars in 2010. i was never notified about this dangerous and hazardous situation. i also learned that the state i purchased my vehicle(in maryland) was not one of the states for the recall. i called my nearest chevrolet dealer and told him of this problem but i was informed i would have to pay for the repair myself. this is outrageous!!! the fuel pump was cracked and it was the manufacturers defected part. a fuel pump for this type of car should last at least 60,000 miles. i babysit for a living and there is a small child in my vehicle almost everyday. this could of caused someone to lose their lives over gm's neglect. well needless to say i parked my car for 2 months until i had the money to pay for gm's problem. so now i am out of money to have something fixed that was no fault of my own. i feel gm should reimburse everyone who had this problem regardless of what state the vehicle was purchased in. i am informing all of my friends and family of this and telling them never to buy a gm car. this is a terrible way to run a business. they are putting peoples lives in danger. *tr

There is a recall on this issue but only in certain states, delaware is not one of them. (nhtsa campaign id number:09v419000) i had to have the fuel pump replaced because it leaked fuel which is the same issue under the recall. if the problem is the fuel pump why would it matter what state your vehicle is registered in? i'm sure there are many more complaints on this and i hope that you will look into it further. i spoke with gm and they will not cover my expenses. *tr

Noticed the strong smell of gasoline and gas leaking from under the vehicle. a large puddle of gasoline would be left under the vehicle when parked overnight or when left idling, even if only for a few minutes. it was determined by my mechanic that the leak was being caused by the fuel pump. read on multiple websites that there was a recall on the fuel pump for the 07 chevrolet cobalt in several states. i called chevrolet to complain but was told that my vehicle was not part of the recall because it is registered in maryland. it is my opinion that chevrolet needs to open the recall to include all faulty fuel pumps on this particular model vehicle and not limit the recall to select states. *tr

A leak occurred in the fuel lines on top of the fuel tank. some 2007 chevrolet cobalts were recalled for this problem, but this vin was not included. it seems that it should have been, because it appears that the faulty parts which caused the recall were installed in this cobalt. fortunately, there was no fire because of the leaking fuel, but the possibility was there. all cobalts with the faulty parts should have them replaced by general motors. *tr

Fuel started leaking from above the plastic gas tank. took the vehicle to my local car repair garage. it turned out to be a cracked supply line to the fuel pump module. it appeared to be a fatigue failure. a new gm pump assy was installed at a cost of $600. the car was purchased in oklahoma and still has oklahoma plates. upon searching for a recall for this problem, i located the recall but gm cut it off at 19000 vehicles before mine. they must have assumed they fixed the problem, but apparently the fix did not work according to the number of complaints that are still coming in. i am glad i did not park the car in my attached garage or there might have been a fire started from the strong fumes created by the large amount of fuel being forced out of the supply tube which is under pressure from the pump. gm will not cover this incident because the vin # lies outside of the vehicles covered in their recall. ## vin passed ## chevrolet cobalt 2007 ## *tr

In march, 2009, my daughter purchased a 2007 chevy cobalt from a chevrolet dealer in gilbert, az. the car has been well maintained, and there have been few maintenance issues until recently. in april, 2012 she noticed that she was having a hard time starting the vehicle, and when it did start it smelled strongly of gasoline. we took it to our local mechanic who determined that the car needed a new fuel pump and filter. the car then started ok, but when the gas tank was full we continued to smell gasoline outside the vehicle. we took it back to the mechanic in june for an oil change, and told him about the gasoline smell (plus the check engine light had come on). the vehicle was then diagnosed with an evaporative gas leak, so the gas cap was replaced. again we thought that the issue was corrected until two weeks later my daughter filled up her gas tank, and when she parked at work smelled gas strongly again, and this time noticed fluid dripping from underneath the car. the next day we took the car back to the mechanic, and this time he found a crack in the port assembly. he repaired it with an epoxy repair kit to the best of his ability, but told me to check with general motors to see if there had been a recall of any sort. i checked with the nhtsa at safercar.gov and there it was. there most definitely was a recall that we were never notified of regarding this fuel leak issue. i sent a letter to general motors requesting a copy of the recall, asking why i wasn't originally notified in february of 2010, and requesting reimbursement for my expenses, totaling $976.00. customer service at general motors denied my request, and refused to accept responsibility. they said that my vehicle vin was not listed. they would not tell me why. all i know is that if my vehicle had been repaired at the time the recall occurred, i would not have had this issue. *tr

I was driving on 78 going to sams when me and my family noticed a loud smell of fuel and some motorist passing by point at my car stating that we had leakage coming from my vehicle. so as i was trying to get over the car suddenly cuts off right in the middle of the freaking freeway almost off the road but not quite. so a good person stopped and helped me push the car off until the police showed to have other moving cars move to the next lane until we were in a safe place. sure enough the fuel under my car was pouring out. i only had my car a year and never had something like this happen with any cars i have ever had this is actually the first car from chevrolet i ever owned. i called the dealership i got the car from but it was not under warranty at all and this is very upsetting. so now i am without a car for now. until i get this fixed i looked up recalls but nothing with my vin number [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Over the last couple days was smelling gas from under my hood . so i checked recalls and found out that a certain vin number was recalled on some 2007 cobalts which was not my vin but it also included saying that my car which came from one of the states that they would consider replacing part but would charge a fee to fix it they would honor but upon calling my gm dealer in which i bought the car said there was no recall but i informed them i found it on the same sight in which i had my steering fixed from a recall and she said they would not fix it because there was no such recall then i also called the gm main number and they refused a recall even though i said there was and what bothers me is that there is document of fires from the vehichle that starts from the ignition and my grandchildren ride in my vehichle so to me loss of life is not worth there excuses when obviously there is a problem with the fuel pump causing fires hope i get some response to maybe make sure nobody dies from this problem

I am in atlanta, georgia where the weather is 104'. i began to drive on the highway and parked my car in a garage where i began to smell gas. then as the days went on i smelled the gas stronger and fumes. i was riding my little 1 year old cousin around when i noticed a gas leak from the car. he then began to cough and i immediately switched vehicles for his safety. i was told that the cobalts had a recall on fuel systems but mine was not covered. i did have a power wheel steering recall which i did not understand why i didn't have a fuel system recall. i would think they messed up both at the same time. i need this fixed as soon as possible because the heat is rising outside and the gas is actually spilling from the tank. this is a dangerous issue which i shouldn't have to fix if the manufacturer created so many. *tr
