SUSPENSION

I purchased the car brand new in 2007. i noticed at about 20,000 miles the front suspension started to make lots of clunking noises and rattling whenever i went over bumps in the road. i took the car into the chevy dealer and they said nothing was wrong with the car. the car now has 42,000 miles on it and the noise is still there. there is also a really awful noise when i apply the brakes and release them the car jerks like the brakes are gonna fall off the car. i recently took the car to a mechanic and he said the bushings need to be replaced and possibly the struts and control arm. the mechanic said the car should not be having those problems with the cars current mileage. he recommended i take it to the dealer ship but my warranty has since expired and the dealer ship will not fix the car. *tr

I was driving down the road and heard a clunk on the right front passenger side in the wheel area. took it to the mechanic and he said the suspension needed replaced and that it was actually punctured up in the very top of the suspension. as of yet i havent gotten it replaced as i was waiting to get it all done when the car gets inspected along with new tires and an alignment. after reading other complaints chevy needs to recall the 2007 cobolt and fix it. i also have only back speakers that work for the radio and the electric locks mechanism on the drivers side for passenger door has never worked since i got it after numerous attempted repairs at auto dealership. would never buy another chevy. going to a foreign auto maker for next purchase. *tr

I can not remember the date or mileage of first occurrence. i bought this car in july 2006 new. the main annoyance with this car is the bushings. i have gotten them fixed 3 times since 06, and yet making the noise again when i break which indicates they need to be replaced again. second annoyance is the radio, i have had my speakers replaced as only the back ones would work. every winter my speakers go out, one day will be the left front, next day will be front right - they choose when they want to work and when they do not want to, and the other day none of the sound would work! third my rpm's will randomly shoot up while i'm driving, going at a constant speed. not very happy with this car...

My car would rattle over ever little bump in the road. it felt like my wheels would fall off any minute. i took it to fleet farm automotive to have them take a look at it. my mechanic told me that my 2007 chevrolet cobalt, bushings / control arm were damaged and that type of failure could be a very dangerous. they told me that i should look to see if there was a recall because this is not something that should be a concern for this young of a vehicle. i couldn't find one but i did find that a lot of people have the same problem as me. this is a costly repair and could be very dangerous so i wanted to bring it to your attention and would like other consumers to know. chevy should fix this issue.

Steering shakes alot on rough roads and sometimes when applying the break. we brought the car in to the dealer a dozen times. they said they do not know what the problem is. we brought it to different dealers and they said it might be the i-shaft we have not fixed this yet because we are still looking for a for sure answer what it is. my future mother in law has a similar car but different year and has the same problem. the started of the shaking both cars had 32000 miles on them. since the start both cars has replaced struts, control arm and tie rods. and we are looking to replace them again. what is causing this shaking? *tr

I have had my 2007 cobalt back to the dealer so many times. one of which was for strut mounts, control arm bushings, intermediate steering shaft, sway bar links, alot water coming in through the center brake light. those were replaced and very bad at 48k miles they told me it had reached the dangerous level and that they're glad i brought it back before somebody got hurt. also the ac smelled terrible at 12k miles, it was in the dealer 7 times for that terrible smell. the last of which took them a week to put in an evaporator which only cured the issue for 3 weeks. it still smells awful when the a/c is running. as far as the car's suspension, since december it has been very hard to manage the car on the road. its all over the place, i've almost side swiped a few semi's and i cross into other lanes almost every day i drive it. its very hard to handle. its is just about impossible to make the car go straight, its always drifting all over the road now. *tr

I bought my cobalt in march of 2007. for the last year the radio will only play on the back speakers. the stero it self will play but some time nothing on sreen to show station or time. that not a magior as the problem the has happened now three time. when we go to stop at a light and push in on the cluck the car will die and the gauges on the dash will shoot over to the right and then to the left side fast. the car will restart. in the last month the front in will shimmy and shake when sppling the breaks. dose it real bad when you slowing down when over 55 mile per hour. i have seen many complains on the front end. wll it take a person to be killed for the chevy company to have the vehicles called in and looked at. i bought the car because of the price, mile per gallon of gas.and over all look.

Tl-the contact owns 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the ignition failed december 13, 2008 the dealer replaced the ignition cylinder module. on march 13, 2010 with the vehicle at 49,333 she heard a metal grinding noise while driving. the vehicle was taken to the garage diagnosed located the failure at the vehicle front end struts, bushing, control arm shaft, and the stabilizer bar. the garage replaced the bushing. the stabilizer bar, the struts, and control arm were not replaced. the contact also wanted to state the front tires had to be replaced sooner than normal, because of the defected struts. the manufacturer took a report 7184842896 they advised the vehicle was over the warranty. the failures were considered normal wear and tear; therefore they will not assist with the repair. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 63,000. li

Whie driving my 2007 chevy cobalt i could feel it was pulling to the right. after awhile the whole front in was starting to vibrate. when i would be driving it felt like to whole engine was going to fall out. the noise was very loud and annoying. i seriously do not feel safe driving this car. i finally got it replaced, but this is two things in the last year, the front end bushing and the steering column. on this car we were told you could ot just replace the bushings that you had to replace the whole part holding it up. this problem occurs at all speed limits.

2007 chevy colbalt, 20,000 miles, fnt end creeking, groaning/moaning. feels very loose/rides very hard over the smallest defect in road! cole muffler diagnosed car bushings/control arms both sides need replace. spoke to many owners of colbalt & searched online-seems this is a common complaint around this same mileage which is unacceptable! bushings/control arms on cars w/limited mileage should be a defect of the manufacturer! this defect seems to be happening after the 3yr warranty & is not covered under the 5yr warranty! this is a safety hazard! i s/w ppl that had the bushings replaced/and the problem is still there & they have been told they have to have the control arms replaced too! most of the time, i feel i don't even have control of my vehicle. when i step on the brakes my whole steering wheel pulls to the left. when i change lanes, it feels like i'm jumping to the next lane. i had to replace my front tires bc of this front end suspension problem. most ppl are not aware how, where, to whom to report a problem like this to. most ppl use the attorney general for complaints, or directly to the dealer, therefore, your database is not accurate for the no. of complaints re: the colbalt fnt suspension. most ppl i talked to haven't reported it, they just pd to replace it bc it was no longer under warranty. costly repairs! over $1000 or more. when are u going to make gm responsible for this defect in the colbalts?? the safety recall notice for the electric power steering should have also included control arms & bushings these are putting consumers at risk for crash also!!! this is clearly a defect in the colbalt. this cars are not inexpensive cars the retail price starts at $16,000! make gm responsible for a safety recall on this problem before someone gets killed. this is a very dangerous situation and it is likely most consumers can't afford a repair of this magnitude, as it will consist of control arms/bushings/tires/alignment to make the vehicle safe again!

Total miles:27900 the car makes loud noises while driving even when you hit pot holes or not.the bushings gave up on the driver side control arm and leaks can be noticed on the struts on both sides. earlier their was a similar noise which resulted in changing the wheel rim. these fixes are too expensive, at really low miles.

2007 chevy cobalt- many problems, electrical comes off and on, car rides like a bucket of bolts, at 50,000 kms front passenger wheel had 1 1/2 inch movement while parked. very dangerous. why no recalls for these issues? the fixer of the car replaced a suspension control arm bushing. all kinds of noise, all pot holes i thought the car was going to fall apart. hunk of junk car. many safety issues should be investigated. brought back to the dealer several times for sagging doors on two door model, irregular idol, rattling sounds in the front end to no avail. thank god i only leased it, they can keep it, it is a hunk of junk. i would never recommend this car to anyone. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet cobalt. the contact heard a noise as if metal to metal were knocking together in the front end of the vehicle, especially when he hit a bump in the road. the contact noticed that the failure had become progressively worse since he purchased the vehicle in may of 2007. the dealer installed new brakes pads and turned the rotors; however, the failure continued to occur while driving various speeds. he took the vehicle to the dealer 7 times and the most recent was february 2010 when the dealer replaced the two front struts. the failure has not recurred since the front struts were replaced. he called the manufacturer and was instructed to take the vehicle to the dealer. the current mileage was approximately 49,000. the failure mileage was approximately 900.

Loud clunking could be heard during tip-in/ tip-out of throttle. returned was car to dealer for investigation and was told it needed suspension control arm bushings. the vehicle only has 39,672 miles, is primarliy highway driven, and has seen very little use over the last 16 months. steering control has diminshed over time while efforts have increased. failure of control arm bushings seems premature for number of miles driven. *cn

Within a month of purchasing a new 2007 chevy cobalt - i began hearing rattling noises from my vehicle. i have had the car in for repairs numerous times. multiple components have been replaced and or repaired. i currently have 15,000 miles on the vehicle - to this day i can still hear rattling noises and clunking noise coming from the steering-suspension. the mechanics have now told me they don't know what's wrong and suggested i try a different dealership. i have contacted chevy and received no help in settling this issue. if chevy would of had their return policy when i purchased - i would of gladly returned the vehicle - i make car payments on a lemon. i don't even like my daughter to ride in the vehicle for fear of her safety. i fear i will be driving down the road the front end will fall apart. it scares me to death. *tr

My 2007 cobalt began clattering upon going over even the least of bumps or potholes, even at low speeds. i took it to the dealer, and it was diagnosed as having the left control arm end come out of its bushing. it will cost approximately $190.00 to fix, but would be covered under warranty, minus my deductible ($200.00). *tr

2007 2 dr chevy cobalt = - 40,000 miles ( highway ) at 37,000 miles i had the left front control arm bushing fail, at 39,000 i had the right one fail i had the left control arm replaced and i am having the right one replaced today by my brother -in-law out of a trans shop in allen park dealer says there are no issues ( service bull ) with the control arm bushing and it would not be covered by warranty ( i have contacted the dealer on both failures, as well as the customer service people ). being in the industry, i have contacted people in the industry and verify that there was problem with the bushing in the prototype phase and early production bushing should not just come out of there casing. *tr

The lower ball joint came completely detached from the front passenger wheel assembly. the bolt and nut that locks the ball joint to the wheel assembly was gone. i do not know if the bolt and nut loosened and fell out or if the bolt and nut were never installed. i suspect that the bolt and nut assembly were not torqued correctly at the factory. my daughter was driving the car down the driveway. the right front tire turned 90 degrees and wedged against the back of the wheel well . the right front drive axle disconnected from the transmission. consequences would have been severe if this occurred at highway speeds. the lower ball joint stem was reinserted into the wheel assembly. i am currently searching for a replacement bolt and nut. *tr

2007 chevy has rattling noise and sounds like front end is falling off. took to dealer and was told the front end bushing(s) has to be replaced at a cost near 400.00. how many complaints do we need to make before a recall is in order
