Defect SummaryGeneral motors (gm) is recalling certain model year 2007 chevrolet equinox and pontiac torrent vehicles originally sold or currently registered in arizona, california, nevada, and texas; model year 2007 chevrolet cobalt, pontiac g5, and saturn ion vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in, arizona, california, florida, nevada, or texas; model year 2008 chevrolet cobalt and pontiac g5 vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in, arizona; and model year 2009 chevrolet cobalt and pontiac g5 vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in, arkansas, arizona, california, nevada, oklahoma, or texas. some of these vehicles have a condition in which the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, which could cause a fuel leak.
Consequence SummaryFuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryGm will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. the manufacturer has not provided a notification schedule. owners may contact general motors at 1-800-521-7300.

 Notice very bad gas smell after on the way back from the store heading home engine was heisting really bad. parked the car in the parking lot turned off the car asap. looked under neath the car and saw fuel leaking i jacked the car up with the jack. i saw fuel coming out from on top of the gas tank. i check out the fuel lines and notice one was cracked. having the vehicle towed tomorrow 2/27/12 to the chevy dealership. has less then 80,000 miles on it

 Tl-the contact owns a 2009 chevrolet cobalt. the vehicle was parked when the contact began to smell gasoline fumes. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the contact was told the fuel tank was leaking. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 43,000. sm.

 There is a strong fuel odor. it appears the problem is the same as the nhtsa campaign id number: 12v459000. that id number covers recalls in several states but tennessee is not included. i believe tennessee should be included in the recall as well. *tr
