Tl- the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet colorado. the contact stated that the engine was a 4 cylinder 2.8 engine and would cause the vehicle to drive abnormally. the contact stated that the number 4 valve was sticking. the dealer diagnosed that the engine would need replacing. the engine was replaced by the dealer numerous times, but the failure continuosuly recurred. the dealer also rebuilt the transmission, but the contact was uncertain if the failure was directly related to the engine failure. the manufacturer was contacted, but denied any assistance with repairs to the vehicle. the failure mileage was 160,000 and the current mileage was 200,000. the vin was unavailable. kmj

Check engine light came on intermittently. engine heated up and transmission would not shift into overdrive on freeway. transmission shifts hard now and then. checked website for any recalls on engine, took to dealership, still under warranty. they keep the truck for 2 weeks, did machine work on cylinder head, computer said all cylinders mis-firing. print out from chevrolet said 'head replacement', which was not done. notified gmc customer service and opened file. back to dealership second time for drop in idle and misfire during driving. could not find anything wrong. dealership said to bring back if said condition gets worse. *tr

I own a 2006 chevrolet colorado ls. inexplicably and randomly, it shifts itself into 4wd high. often this is while making a right hand turn. chevrolet stopped servicing my vehicle, telling me there was no cure for this problem. it has happened at high speeds on the highway as well. the most recent date this happened was yesterday while i was turning into my post office. this has been a constant problem since the recorded mileage was 2,109. records will show the truck was in for service by gm at least 15 times. incidentially, this is a replacement truck for a 2005 colorado that had precisely the same problem. before the dealer was shut down by gm, the service manager told me that gm detroit had told him not to service the vehicle for this problem any longer as gm had no cure for it.

I have a 2006 colorado 2006 crew cab l-5 engine. i have owned it for 2 1/2 months. it has been to the dealer for 1. rear main bearing seal leak three times. 2. two wheel alignments. 3. auto- transmission cable fell off. this was when i was bringing it in to the dealer for one of the many repairs. 4. it still has to go back for replacing the rear window (on order). this vehicle has been in the shop for 25% of the time i have owned it. *nm

While adjusting the air conditioner vent this summer, i inadvertently lightly touched the 4 wheel drive low button engaging my 2006 chevrolet colorado into low 4 wheel drive. although the light on the button came on (which is not easy to see), no bell like seatbelt, door open, key in ignition, etc, came on, and when i went around a corner to park, the trucks front end locked up. i was told that will happen in all trucks which are in cab 4 wheel drive engaging. this is extremely dangerous as this button can easily be punched by anything that comes near the vent, or a package that bumps it, and there is no signal to operator that something very significant which can cause front end to lock up as wheel are trying to turn together (as dealer told me). i find it really needs to be addressed as this may happen on the highway to a family who swerves to miss a collision only to find the 4 wheel has been unknowingly engaged and the steering is rendered useless when this happens. dealer was notified and i was told that is how all trucks in all makes and models are, and if i did not like it, go ahead and file a complaint, nothing would be done because it would have to be done on such a massive recall basis. maybe if someone is injured or killed the manufacturers will be able to connect this 4 wheel drive change which can occur with no notice to driver to a bell or sound which operator has to acknowledge, much like a key being in ignition, or seatbelts. i was also told that 4 wheelers didn't want a bell ringing every time they put their truck in 4 wheel when off road. i think 4 wheelers wouldn't mind the same reminder as mentioned above (bell sound) when engaged in 4 wheel drive, if it means it would protect millions of other people from potentially life threatening accidents. *tr
POWER TRAIN - TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE)

We owned a 2005 colorado that had problems with the lifters which had to be replaced. it also shifted into 4 wheel drive high, in most cases when shifting to drive after being parked or idling in traffic. steering and brakes would lock up, and the only way to get it out of 4wd high was to drive in reverse. after a year long battle with our local chevy dealer, and 11 times in for service, we traded it in for a 2006 model. two weeks after we got our new truck, the same thing with the 4-wheel drive happened while in line at the bank drive-up on a saturday morning. i contacted the dealership as soon as i got home and was told to make an appointment to bring the truck in to be looked at. upset, i told him that we had taken our last truck in countless times for this same problem and the problem could never be duplicated. we did take it in and they replaced some computer part or chip but it has done it again since then. this could be extremely serious if we were driving at any rate of speed let alone on a highway. chevy needs to address this issue. we need to make them address it. *tr
