2007 chevrolet corvette z06. service active handling message appears on instrument cluster at random intervals. sometimes message preceds an application of one or both front brakes while vehicle is in motion causing a very dangerous driving scenario. the vehicle has only 3800 miles and has been returned to the dealership (lone star chevrolet..houston, texas) one before for a fix. a sleeve was installed in the steering column as per a gm directive. the problem returned within 500 miles of driving. i have asked the service department to remove the active handling from the cars computer and they say they cannot. the vehicle is unsafe to operate with this issue if the brakes are applied. i have discussed this issue with numerous other corvette owners (online at the corvette forum) who have also experienced this same issue and only a few have had the problem finally corrected. others, like myself, must continue to take the vehicles back for another fix.

Exhaust valve guides are excessively worn beyond service limit. approximately 4 times service limit. this is a definite safety hazard to me and to those around me. the worn valve guide causes the exhaust valve to stretch, and eventually break. when the valve head breaks, it beats its way out of the engine, causing potentially: engine lockup, oil spill on highway, large smoke cloud and debris out the rear of the vehicle. loss of control of the vehicle imminent danger to those around me due to loss of vision and slippery roadway. this issue affects all 2006 to 2013 chevrolet corvette z06

It is stock and no tune verified by ( reliable chevrolet in springfield mo. and show-me speed in nixa mo.) at 49562 mile it drop the #6 exhaust valve which in turn destroyed the motor i have had this car to 3 different shops and they are all saying the same thing excessive wear on all the exhaust valve guides 2 of the shops determined this wear caused the exhaust valve to break other shop couldn't say

On 09/03/08 i brought my car to a chevy dealer for noisy lifters , they replaced the rocker arms at the #8 cylinder which made the lifter noise not as loud. on 11/07/08 as i got onto the thruway , i accelerated in second gear to get into the flow of traffic ,i pushed in the clutch to shift into third gear . as i released the clutch with no throttle applied , the car began to shake very badly . i then pushed the clutch pedal in looked at my gauges which were all dead. then i looked into the rear view mirror and there was a large cloud of white smoke behind me . then i had the car towed to the chevy dealership and they called and informed me the next day that there was a hole in the engine block at the #8 cylinder . the dealership and gm refuse to repair the car under warranty stating that the car is used competitively of which it is not . i have found out that there have been many major engine failures with the z06 corvette . gm has a program for 2007 and 2008 z06 cars that have major engine failures where they send the car back to the factory where they repair or replace the engine . the document id # 2067130 and #pip4132b of which i have a copy of . if there was not a problem with these engines they would not have the program in place .*tr

The low beams randomly stop working, after the engine heats up to operating temperature, and almost caused an accident. the behavior then repeats every time the car is used (not a one-time event). i, and other owners have identified a common circuit issue in the headlamp controls, which is only fixable by replacing the whole board.

In may 2009 i made a road trip from my home in ny to tampa fl, when i left ny my 2007 zo6 corvette had 1500 miles during the trip i was not involved in any accidents, when i arrived in fl the next day (drove straight through) i noticed that both front headlamp lenses had numerous tiny cracks in them, i called a local gm dealer, i explained the situation, they stated i must have hit something i was livid i then called my dealer in ny they said not to worry and would look at the vehicle when i returned. i arrived home on a saturday night 1st thing monday i called beck chevrolet and spoke to the service manager, he said bring it over ,i drove car over immediately, only the service manager looked at car, no 1 else saw my vehicle the service manager stated there was no chemical on my headlights, he said there was a bulletin from gm and they could do nothing, it was a mysterious chemical that caused this problem, i then called gm and asked for a review, when i called gm back several days later they said they spoke to a mechanic @ beck chevy who stated that he inspected my car and there was a chemical on my head lights, this is no way true i was present during the entire time 20 min car was @ dealer and only the service manager looked at vehicle. i then called gm again and wrote a few letter explaining what happen, they said chemicals used by auto detailers causes headlights to crack, i brought up the point that beck chevy had an outside person detailing my vehicle when i picked it up, but they couldn't tell me why and what chemicals he used ( i personally saw this person detail my vehicle), i gotten no other response from gm. i believe that the lenses cracked because of heat from the long drive to fl from ny with the daytimerunning lights and have the lights on throughout the night, lights were on for approximately 20 hours straight. on the way home i turned the daytime lights off but turned them on at night, as of today my corvette ( baby ) has 4,013 miles. *tr

My vehicle is a 2007 corvette zo6 with approx 5000 miles. i noticed loud noises from the rear differential. i thought i had a flat or someone had tampered with my vehicle. there was no visible sign of the cause of the problem. the noise stopped after a short time. i called the dealer who indicated the rear differential fluid was the source of the problem and needed to be changed. i had that done but found that a friend of mine had the same problem (2006 zo6) in which the fluid has been changed twice in less than 10000 miles. i believe this could be a major problem and could result in failure of the gearbox especially at high speed. chevrolet has not satisfactorily addressed this potentially serious problem over 2 model years. *tr

I noticed my steering column was loose. i pulled the lower column cover off and the left steering column tilt pivot pin fell on the floor of the vehicle. i looked at the other side of the column, and the right pivot pin was halfway out. i tapped them back into place, and they went back into place easily. i have discovered another driver of the make and model who has told me that his pivot pins have fallen out more than once.
WHEELS | |||
04/24/2012 | 82000 | ||
The right front oem wheel on the vehicle had several spokes that were busted completely in half. there was no abuse to the wheel, no impact or curb rash of any kind. the vehicle has never been raced or operated on any kind of track environment. there have been several reports of the same failure on the www.corvetteform discussion boards. gm has ignored the problem and denied any type of compensation or ownership of the problem. i have since replaced the wheel with another oem wheel. this type of catastrophic failure could result in a life and death suituation.

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 chevrolet corvette with oe concept aluminum wheels. the contact stated that the manufacturer put steel in the wheels, which caused the tires to become out of balance. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that because two unlike metals were placed together, the tires would certainly disintegrate. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the equipment was returned. the failure and the current mileage was 32,000. the vin was not available. kmj |
