| My remote would not lock the doors. replaced batteries. it would lock and unlock once. then nothing. fuse blown. replace fuse. work once, blow fuse. took to dealer after 3 months of not being able to access my trunk space, you can't open from inside or outside without remote. a wire inside the passenger door had somehow been severed??? how does that happen. $685 to fix.... next huge issue: driving down road.. front end gone???? struts, links...$1100 car won't start ...have to give it gas, seen a lot of these with no idea whats wrong. well dealership says its fuel pressure sending unit, bad injectors... grand total to fix $2000.. in what world should a vehicle that does not even 100k miles on it have so many costly fixes......i looked on here to see if anyone else is having the starting issue.. seems to be a lot of people. | |||

| I am experiencing serious water leaks in my 2005 chevrolet equinox awd lt. whenever it rains, water accumulates in the spare tire well and overflows onto the floor under the rear seats. it also creates a disturbing short out of the speaker system. the carpet smells and i am very concerned about mold, as well as fire from the electrical shorting out. another issue is that it causes the windows to fog up, especially when i run the heater to try to dry it out. | |||

| Driving down the highway at about 55-60mph when the car dies. started running again a few seconds later but then died again. pulled over could not get it started, but started to smell something burning. popped the hood to find the main fuse box bellowing smoke, thankfully it was raining so i let the rain cool it down. i figured this was better than it eventually catching the entire vehicle on fire as my wife and 3 kids were in the car. after the smoke stopped, the car repeatedly tried to start itself without the key being present in the ignition. it eventually stopped doing this but the dash lights would randomly flicker in unison. all electrical components were still operational (radio, lights, signals, wipers, etc...) but again no key was present in the ignition. | |||

| Car doesn't start on first attempt. it tries, then even after i release the key it continues to start, like its stuck, i have to pump the gas to get it to start, and it acts flooded. abs and traction control lights on. when i press on the brakes it feels stuck at the top and grinds and pulsates even though my brakes are good. ive had my speed sensors replaced twice , problem still ongoing. i have to push with all my weight for the brakes to break through what ever its stuck on and work, then they lock up. that's when the abs/traction control lights come on, then i know the abs is not trying to work and my brakes will stop me. ive almost crashed into things too many times. | |||

| Several times i go to start my equinox, and it won't start. it seems as if it over starts then shuts back off, then i have to push onto the gas for the vehicle to start most of the time but sometimes it has to sit for a minute for it to even be tried again. i have called around and has this issue looked at but no one seems to know what the issue is, chevrolet says when it shuts off it's so that the starter doesn't burn up over time, and that's as far as it's gone. | |||

| This complaint is in regards to the 2005 chevrolet equinox. this vehicle was purchased used in august 2009 with roughly 42000 miles from carmax in dulles, va. since the purchase of this vehicle, i have spent nearly 3000 dollars in repairs as it seems that parts are wearing out or malfunctioning far earlier than typical. at about the 60000 mile mark, all four rotors and brakes needed to be replaced due to the rotors being warped. i was told by the mechanic that this is not common and should not have happened at this type of mileage. cost for this repair was about $500. tires have needed to be replaced twice since the purchase of this vehicle; once around 60000 miles due to uneven wear which was likely a result of the bad rotors, and again around the 100000 mark also for uneven wear. this cost $400 on each occasion. at the 80000 mile mark a loud knocking noise was heard coming from the front end, and proceeded to get worse up to the 100000 mile mark. between those mileage marks, the front end began to feel very loose. the problem was that the struts prematurely failed and created a very dangerous driving condition. the cost for this repair was over $1300 and was repaired on june 27, 2011. after doing a bit of research, i discovered that this is a very prominent and common problem for this year, make, and model. on top of these issues, there is also apparently a problem with the rear end as well that is also creating a knocking. also, the daytime running lights have begun to flash repeatedly and very quickly at random times as well as turning themselves on and off. the cd player also broke. i feel that this is a very unsafe and unreliable vehicle that should be investigated to determine whether this is truly due to wear and tear, or if this is a factory fault. | |||

| I bought this truck sept 2010. its a used chevey equinox 2005 from a big mazda dealership here in edinburg,, texas. i didnt buy it with warranty. after a week of driving it, i had to change the brake pads already. they sensors started messing up within 3 days. but the dealership said they couldnt do anything about it cus i had no warranty. i changed the oil with synthetic oil after a month after hoping it would get better. but it kept on happening all the time until now. anti-lock brakes and traction control light sensors. they turn on all the time. and the barring vibrates and you can feel it when going slow. i just got it fixed the other day at a famous car repair shop and they told me there's a 50/50 chance that changing the barring will work. but it has happened to other chevy equinox 2005/2006 models that they've fixed before with the same problem. i took my chances anyway and i bought a new barring and changed all my 4 tires. after a day the light sensors turned on again and the barring started vibrating again. i called them up they said to go to a dealership. i dont want to take it to a dealership cus my warranty expired already and i know they're goin to charge more. i'm not sure if there is a recall on the brakes and sensors on this model thats why im filing a complaint. | |||

| I have a 2005 chevy equinox that i purchased used in march 2009 from johnny londoff chevrolet. i have been taking it to the dealer for regular maintenance and they would say everything is working properly. i've been experiencing alot of problems with this car since i've purchased it. the air didn't work & i paid to get it fixed only for it to go out again. when i start it sometimes it doesn't want to start, i hear noises like it's misfiring when it does start. i recently had the vehicle serviced & had a multipoint inspection & was told again everything is working properly only to be driving home & when i tried to stop the brakes don't work. i could have had an accident & my child was in the car as well. i had it towed back to them to find out what caused this & they said the hub bearing needs to be replaced & the harness needs to be replaced. it's not gonna be cheap to fix as i'm not under warranty. i want this to be investigated as to why this happened without any warning since i've only had the car about 1 year & 8 mos. the mileage when i bought the car was 53010 & since i have had it i'm only at 62567 miles. i need answers just like others experiencing some of the same problems. | |||

| In april of 09 the truck was leaking oil, had head gasket replaced. in june 2010 the engine overheated head gaskets was repaired a second time. when received truck back from dealer truck died on freeway and now it needs new fuse block and main computer. just paid 2500 in repairs and dealer wants 1500 and cannnot tell me if that will fix the current electrial problem. truck is now worth 3000. this was a 24000 truck. this should not be happening | |||

| Since 2008, i have experienced the following problems with brakes grinding & squeaking even after getting them repaired (front and rear brakes / rotors replaced). a couple of days after rear brakes replaced the abs & tc lights were on. i had to have sensors replaced. i have also experienced car not starting and sounding like it is flooding, after lettting car sit for a few minutes it then starts. there is also a popping noise that comes from the back of car after starting the engine. when changing shift from park to drive car occassionally jerks & shoots forward. when pressing the gas, the car takes a few moments then jerks forward. now i'm being told that the transmission is going bad & i have to pay $350 for a diagnostic test to determine if they can rebuild the transmission or have to replace it, which will cost between $1800 to $3000. there is a 2005 chevy equinox power train: automatic transaxle recall but my car is not covered. note: vehicle has been serviced regularly according to the maintainance schedule timetable provided by the manufacturer. | |||

| My 2005 chevy equinox tends to stall. the engine light comes on, the tc light comes on, and the engine light with a down arrow comes on. this usually happens after it rains. i have taken it to the dealership many times for this problem, and the first time they just reset the computer. the second time they said it was a leak in the sunroof that leaks down to the computer wires. this is a chevy problem from the day we bought the car. now the car is out of warranty, and it will cost too much to fix. usually i can turn off the engine and turn it back on and it fixes it self, but sometimes i have to wait till it stops raining and let the car dry out. now the engine light stays on, and stalls often. this is a safety issue cause it makes the engine stall while driving no matter what the speed. i have noticed that many others have the same issue, and could cause a wreck in high traffic areas. | |||

| Equinox has had power failure while driving 6+ times...all when driving in wet conditions (either raining or having just rained). first time was told by dealership that i drove thru a puddle and got everything wet (i didn't); had something to do with the electrical system replaced. have taken car back to dealer within the last two months because it happened again, and was told all of my weatherstripping needed replacing b/c that was allowing water in. had this done. happened again tonight (wet weather today, but was not raining when i was driving). the other times this has occurred, i've let my equinox sit where it died for a few days to let it dry out and that has worked, but this not exactly the best solution as i don't live in the desert and it does rain here. chevy dealer of no help; said he agrees there is a manufacturing defect but there is nothing he can do about it. advised me to call chevy cs. i have dealt with them before on another equinox issue and they were of no help. wish i would have investigated my state's lemon law in time. sudden and total loss of power is dangerous!! *tr | |||

| Severe water leak in 2005 chevrolet equinox awd lt. when operating the vehicle in rain conditions, water accumulates in the spare tire well and overflows onto the floor of the vehicle, even up to the front . it also shorts out the speaker system which crackles and blares out a loud noise even when the radio is turned off. the carpeting becomes soaked when this happens and then the vehicle has a foul odor. a phone call to the dealer resulted in an answer that they have no idea what the problem could be. i fear this water is damaging the electrical parts in the speaker system and may result in a fire. this has been going on for at least two years. *tr | |||

| I have a 2005 equinox the first model year for this vehicle. i ordered the car new from the factory. at random times when i turned the key in the ignition the vehicle would not immediately start. at other times the car would not immediately shut off when the key was turned off. on may 3, 2009 the vehicle just died it would not turn on. i have just over 40000 miles on the vehicle. the electrical goes in and out since the engine will not start. the theft deterrent system seems to be the only thing that works, as it keeps resetting itself after the door is open and closed. i do hear sounds of some type similar to a computer trying to reset or kick in. i tried to jumpstart the vehicle but that did nothing. the engine will just not turn over. towing it to the dealer tomorrow. of course this is a major hazard since it was so random, without any real warning today, as i had driven it only 10-15-minutes before and had just returned home and was attempting to move car so that i could cut the lawn and it was inoperable. *tr | |||

| A few months ago my husbands mother drove his 2005 chevy equinox to the store and the battery died. they jumped the car and everything has been fine until a few days ago. we had to jump start my husbands car a few days ago and that is when he said something about the cd player staying on after the car was off. when you listen to the cd player it sounds like player is trying to eject a cd but it wont and eventually it says on the screen cd changer error. it even does this when the vehicle is turned off so it ends up killing the battery. my husband has to unplug the fuse for the cd player or it drains his battery. and still having it unplugged the vehicle has a hard time starting because it is like it can no longer hold a charge. when we mentioned this to my husband's mother she said when it died the time she drove it had said the same thing. i have searched this problem online and many people have the same complaint. one person said that they even replaced the cd player multiple times and every few months it does the same thing. we are going to take the vehicle to the chevy dealership here and see what they say, but i really feel this is a problem that needs to be looked into because i do not have the money to buy cd players and batteries every few months. the equinox came out in '05 and it sounds to me like this is an error that they did not fix before production. *tr | |||

| 2005 equinox with normal driving, mostly highway. began to hear the typical sounds of a failing bearing prior to 60,000 miles. vibration in steering, hum present when driving, uneven wear on front tires. replaced rfhub under warranty at approx. 69,000 miles. within 10,000 miles that rfhub began to fail, by the time i could get it to the dealership i had surpassed my warranty and the 12 months/12,000 warranty on the installed part via the dealership. was told that it wasn't out of the ordinary for the part to fail so quickly, which is news to me! how can a bearing fail that quickly and not be defective. was forced to pay over 500.00 to replace it. have complained numerous times about a rattle when going over bumpy roads and received the we couldn't replicate it response since initial complaint prior to 60,000 miles. have heard that the tierods are to blame, have mentioned it, but still deal with this rattle that goes unaccounted. also have bad electrical that can't be replicated at the dealership. radio and panel in dash flash at random times as if a wire were loose or shorting, loud booming thuds come from the speakers at the same time. speaker blew in door, but after warranty. regardless of numerous complaints i would have to pay out of pocket because they couldn't replicate these things when taken in to get looked at. fuel gage sticks, but either have to pay 120.00 to possibly correct it with a fuel system cleaner, or pay 700.00 to replace fuel filter. such great options. my family has worked for general motors for years, it's a shame. *tr | |||

| 2005 chevrolet equinox safety issue with the steering. consumer states that the steering failed completely. dealer blamed the failure on ice in the wheel well. then the trouble light illuminated and the issue has not yet been fixed properly. *kb the consumer stated the vehicle had to be towed because it wouldn't start. the dealer cleaned the connector, however the computer did not pick up any diagnostic history, even though the trouble light had been coming on quite consistently. on feb 25, 2006 the consumer once again lost steering, but regained it and continued to drive. at that time they replaced the ignition switch. the trouble light continued to come on and once again the vehicle would not start. the dealer discovered that by pushing on the fuse box, the vehicle would start and steer. on 2 separate occasions, the consumer became stranded, the doors wouldn't unlock and the vehicle wouldn't start, but the horn worked. the consumer let the vehicle sit overnight and when she came back, the vehicle still would not automatically unlock, she opened the door manually and pounded on the fuse box, and the vehicle started up. the second time the consumer became stuck, pounding on the fuse box did not work and the vehicle didn't start, even though the battery was fine. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and for the second time, the ignition switch was replaced. as soon as the consumer left the dealer the trouble light illuminated again. the consumer stated the steering continues to go out a couple of times. the consumer also stated the resume button for the cruise control doesn't always work properly. *jb | |||

| Oct 8, was in class for 30 minutes came out car was dead, everything worked but started just clicked. called roadside assistance.. took too long; called campus security got a jump start, car drove fine died again until oct 13. jump started again, oct 18 died again, called roadside assistance had it towed to herb adcox chevy. they still have it and say it is running fine...no diagnostic problems showing on computer. filed an issue with 800chevusa.... they say even though i have an extended warranty(car still in original warranty now) that this issue may not be covered. the car is only two years old i am the original owner. chevy cannot find any problems so i am stuck wondering when it will die again. i also reported noxious fumes (smells like rancid butter)most likely from antifreeze problem like other 2005 equinox's and a brake shimmy problem at highway speeds(entire car seems unstable). this is the last chevy i will ever buy. i hate to even trade it in and give the issues to someone else. this is wrong. i believe chevy is aware of these issues and doing nothing to recall or repair them. i was told if there is no diagnostic there is no problem. *jb | |||

| Where do i begin i bought a chevy equinox 2005 brand new and have had numerous problems!! the main problem is the check engine light. it continuosly comes on and when i take it to the dearlership they never seem to be able to actually fix the correct problem. i have replaced a headgasket, thermostat, internal gasket, front roters and brakes, dealership states that i need new front roters and brakes again it hasn't even been 1 year since the first set. i've had new shock plugs and a coil put in, etc. this all started last nov. with the check engine light and still is having problems. i am so frustrated with this car. i thought that with buying a brand new car i wouldn't have all of these problems. i'm afraid to travel with it because it is so unreliable!!! | |||

| I always parked car in a garage, but this day no spots were open so i parked on the street and went to work. about a 1/2 hour later i looked the window and noticed smoke coming from the back of the car. i ran out to see what the problem was, and saw fire on the back bumper area on the driver's side. someone called the fire department. while i grabbed a few things out of the inside of the car. the fire department t came and eventually put out the fire. i have never known a car to spontaneously combustion before, and it was a very traumatic experience. the car was destroyed between the fire, smoke and water, and declared totaled by the insurance company. the origin of the fire appeared to be in the tail light section and to be electrical in nature. i did not have any prior problems with the car, and it was equipped as originally leased from the dealer. it was only two years old and still under the warranty. thankfully ,no one was hurt/killed this time. i believe this car was defective and posed a very real danger to my family as well as my coworkers. the manufacturer was extremely uncooperative in discussing the problem - with not even a 'sorry you are having trouble with one of our products' line as i wanted to be reimbursed for the deductible that i will have to give the insurance company.*ak | |||

| My driver side window will not go up or down, it just failed completely. the dealership advised that the wires inside the door are completely broken. the system needed to fix it is back ordered so i have to wait to have it replaced. four days later my brakes became the new problem. on my way to school, i was approaching a stop light and began applying the brakes but the car would not stop. it made a vibrating noise and thrust itself forward. it wasn't a grinding sound but clicks and vibration. luckily there wasn't anyone in front of me or coming from the opposite direction. i thought it something i did and continued driving carefully. at the next stop i was unable to slow down to make a right hand turn. i passed the turn completely before the car slowed enough to turn. this scared me so i pulled over and called for help. after taking a test drive with a car repair person who informed me it wasn't my brake pads or rotors. he said it sounded like my anti-lock system failing and i should call the dealership. i called the dealership and they said to bring it in. gm roadside assistance towed it. that was saturday and today is monday, the dealership worker told me she drove it and she has been driving for 12 years and she didn't have a problem with the brakes but they will put it on the electric diagnostic machine to double check it. i am afraid to drive with my children. the fact that the car may not stop or the brakes may fail at any time is scary. i should hear from them by this evening. *jb | |||

| Dt*: the contact stated there were numerous problems with the vehicle. first, the engine would intermittently not crank. the dealer replaced the battery however, this did not correct the problem. second, while depressing the brake pedal the vehicle intermittently did not slow down. the brake pedal was pumped several times to get the brakes to activate correctly. third, the transmission revved high and intermittently did not change gears correctly while driving. fourth, the abs lamp illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the abs lamp was reset. lastly, the front passenger window was rolled down and would not rise back up. the dealer replaced the window regulator and the window was repaired. the vehicle was repeatedly taken to the dealer and addressed the problems that could be duplicated and made appropriate repairs. hard start/hesitation and almost stalling. also, determined speed sensor was causing reduced power. *ak | |||

| I bought my car brand new with 4 miles on it. i have been the only owner. since i purchased my vehicle i have had to have the fuel pump replaced in 2007 ($1400). my car has been in the shop numerous times for costly repairs. my key comes out of the ignition while driving, and it is hard to start. i have to wiggle the key every other time i try to start my car. i've also had problems with my car starting. when i go to crank it up it sounds likes it tries to start then dies. this happens often. my car is not in the shop due to water leakage. there a large collection of water with my spare tire, and the floor in the back seat is soaked. i was told from the gm service department they see this often in my model vehicle but no recall for it at this time so it's out of my own pocket. also i have taken my vehicle to the dealer several times for my steering wheel. it makes a loud sound every time the wheel is turned and they cannot seem to fix the problem. i have had to replace my headlights and brake lights very often. *tr | |||

| 2005 equinox , issue with ignition. starts normally after two or three tries. key sticks in ignition switch, on second key now. have to order a third key for when the one i am using wears out. took vehicle in to certified service station they could never find anything wrong until it was out of warranty then the say i need a new shifter which is over $500 to replace. issues with brakes and rotors... no on e can seem to replace them without the vehicle making a noise when trying to stop and while driving, ever the certified gm service center. issue started early 2005 appros 2 months after purchase. *tr | |||

| 2005 chevy equinox ls. can take key out of ignition while vehicle is traveling down the road. i'm afraid the key could fall out of the ignition and the steering wheel would lock up. or, if in an accident, the key fall out while the motor is running and you won't be able to turn off the motor, which could result in fire. had the key replaced once, about 1 year ago. it is happening again. i bought the car new, so i know there has been tampering or replacement with the ignition switch. gm's solution is go to dealer. dealers solution is replace key. obviously replacing key is not a long term solution nor one that fixes the problem. it is, however, and expensive one that could be is fatal if not fixed in time. it also appears to be extraordinary. i have driven for 42 years and owned many, many cars. i have never had to replace a key because i can pull it out of the ignition. now, it appears i'll have to do it every year. *tr | |||

| I bought a new 2005 equinox back in march of '05. over this year-2008- i have problems just getting my key to turn in the ignition. i have to wiggle it back and forth for a few minutes until it catches and turns over. i can't get in and just start my car. i can turn my key maybe an inch and i have to turn it back and keep wiggling it until it gives for me to turn all the way. of course, my warranty was up at 36,000 miles which i have surpassed a few thousand miles ago. i am trying to get some $$ together (things are very tight as everyone knows!) to get it looked out. i don't know if the lock is misaligned or what? i feel there should be a recall on this to be fixed because i have seen a lot of feedback on internet from people that have same issue with this type of car. i am not taking it to the dealer because i don't want to pay hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars. i will take it to a local reputable mechanic who is very trustworthy and reasonable. *tr | |||

| Issue started around in early 2007 that every once in a while the vehicle wouldn't start on the first attempt. now in 2008 this happens more frequently. when i go to start the car it sounds like it tries to start then the engine light lets me know i did not crank the car. occurs more so after i have had to run errands and start the car a number amount of times in a shorter period of time. i have taken to the gm dealer and have had it checked a number of time. they have cleaned the injectors, reflashed the computer, and updated the computer to the latest levels. the answer is always the same no codes generated no problem found. *tr | |||

| Contact states: bought a brand new vehicle in august 2004. the anti-freeze was changed. the anti-freeze was brown and the smell was severe and nauseous. the car has been the shop 9 times with so many different reasons. the antifreeze line wasn't bled right and the antifreeze was leaking in the ground. there was a leak in the dome light and sunroof, the suspension and engine would tick, the horn did not work, there were front end problem, the shifter would stick, there ignition problem, noise when turning the vehicle, gas mileage problem and there was a toxic smell from the anti-freeze, the vehicle over heated, the brakes made noises, the consumer had driven through a car wash, the dome light had filled with water, the lower dash was dripping water and the vehicle would not accelerate vehicle would not accelerate and the engine light had illuminated, the vehicle pulled to the right when driving and when braking,there was poor gas mileage during city driving, there was a loud noises when making turns on the front struts, the front brake rotors were out of round, the shifter would stick, the ignition cylinder was binding, there was popping when the vehicle was started from cold, and the brake pedal would go to the floor. *sc *jb | |||

| I have a 2005 chevy equinox that has experienced multiple electrical problems. first i had ignition problems, air conditioner problems, battery being drained without cause, window control and so forth. each time i took it to the dealer for repairs and each time a repair was made. only after the warranty was out did i discover by accident that the problems were caused by a faulty wiring harness. the main dash wiring harness located in the left floor panel on the driver's side has signs of melting, and shorts with the slightest movement. the shortage causes the air conditioner to stop blowing and will cause the engine to completely die out. i have had the car evaluated by two mechanics who both stated, without knowing someone else had looked at it, that the car is a fire hazard and should be repaired immediately. i also spoke with a local body shop that has repaired at least one equinox that burned due to this same wiring harness. the repairs are currently being made at a cost of $4,000.00. i believe that this is a more wide spread problem than has been reported and hope that others with similar problems will speak out as general motors is unwilling to investigate this. i encourage new car buyers to beware of this company, as i have been sorely disappointed with their product and service. *tr the consumer also stated there was a roaring noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. she later found out there was a problem with differential after being told there was nothing in the rear to cause a noise. updated 12/04/08. *jb | |||
