Bought in jan 2009 with 65,000 on it. summer 09 in a rain storm it looked like someone turned a faucet on in my car the water was coming in on drivers side my left foot looked like in the tub, fixed under warranty. out of pocket $100, the by end of 09 the real fun began, had engine mounts replaced, knocking in car when car started for first 5 minutes. the by october car was over heating, heat only blew when car was moving, car now had 118137 replaced the ender blower motors, coolant fans and fan motor, called and reported to chevy, then in november 010, it all happened again. this time had to have blend arm door replaced car called chevy nope not a issue per internet its major issue. replaced at my cost $891. right before christmas, 2010, gaskets and seals blew car over heated then shut off, had to let it cool down then start up again. had to replace engine, gaskets and seals. now 7/12 chevy wants to reimburse for the part but decided to fight me tooth and nail on the reimbursement because i no longer own the car. traded it in april 2012 could not longer afford it and trans felt like its going to go. chevy said i will get a partial refund of blend arm door only? wtf the car put me and my children in danger and that's all they want to do but yet fight me? also i reported to chevy all these issues, the bbb, a lawyer at this point, 2 tv network news programs, and all available multimedia. *tr

Blown head gasket at 65,000 miles. was driving on the freeway when it happened, car lost power. no indiciation of any issues before, no check engine light, no other warning whatsoever. seems to be a common problem among 2005 & 2006 equinox's since i was informed of how common it is from the lady at the bmv....i kept asking my chevy dealer how does a vehicle with only 65,000 miles blow a head gasket and somehow i doubt this was the first time they have heard of it.

Our 2006 equinox blew a head gasket at 100000 miles under normal use. we have found dozens of other 06 equinox owners online that have had the exact same problem. there are forums of equinox owners discussing the problem. chevy should reimburse us for the cost of fixing this. i have contacted them and they said because there is no recall there is nothing they can do. please help. thank you.

While driving at aprox 45mph the engine just stalled. no warning no sputtering just dead. both engine lights came on the check engine light and one with the x thru the engine. after aprox 30 seconds it started back up and was fine. this has happened intermittantly at different stages of driving and various speeds. on 12/28/11 it happened to us 3 times while out. i am leary of taking it to the dealer close to us as they recently did a brake job that i have had to take back 4 times and am again having symptoms of needing brakes. i have no faith in the dealer.

When i start my equinox it sometimes idles down and then back up to where it should be. it also has died after i have started it. but the most concerning is having to push on the gas pedal to keep it from dieing, as if it is not getting fuel. then it will run just fine.

The heat started to take longer to warm up then after a month of this the heat totally stop working. i can't defrost the windows. this occurs everytime. i have research this and there are numerous complaint about having this issue. gm needs to recall this because they charge anywhere from $900-1200 to fix the problem. i found that the air blend door on the actuator that controls the temp of the airflow. i have found this problem going on since 2008 on the 2006 chevy equinox and pontiac torrant.

Blend door on 2006 chevrolet equinox has broken and does not allow heated air to be circulated through the vents -- only cold air. gm has known about this condition but refuses to fix the issue, regardless of it's countless documentations of the problem. without heat being circulated through the ventilation system it causes a serious safety hazard as fog and haze will cover the interior of the windshield and eliminate the driver's view of the road. to repair the door the entire dash of the vehicle must be removed to replace the door, totaling over $1,200 in labor.

 1) fairly new chevy equinox (2006) with $65,000 miles overheated in traffic without warning - within a day, difficulty starting vehicle and white smoke came out of the tail pipe when starting the car in the morning - car showed no symptoms until problem occurred 2) car overheats and stalls out as a result - per the mechanic, it has blown head gaskets 3) head gaskets replaced at $2,800 - the car isn't even four years old after researching more about the problem to see if my cost of repair was within the average for such repairs, i saw that many owners have had the same problem with the chevy equinox, and that it is likely a faulty design issue. *tr

I have no heat in my car. the heater is blowing cold air. i have a four year old daughter and will have to get it fixed immediately despite gm suggesting that i have it diagnosed then call them back. the problem appears to be with the blend door, based on information found on the internet. there appears to be a significant number of individuals experiencing this problem with this model based on information contained on the internet. it does not appear as though this problem is caused by normal wear and tear. *tr

The same problem has been occurring for over a year. where i go to start my car, my key turns over but the engine never kicks on. its makes an odd noise, not grinding but a noise. it takes about 6-7 times before the vehicle will kick on. once it finally starts there is black smoke and fluid coming out of the exhaust pipe. the rpm's rev up to 8k than down to 4k, the car idles and sounds like it wants to die. i have brought my car back and forth to the dealership 6 times since april 15, 2008. so far nothing has been done and they state the car is up to gm standards. i have wasted much time and money into this issue and soon the car will be out of warranty. i have a feeling that once the warranty is up that they will charge me an arm and leg to get it fixed. i have a 2006 chevrolet equinox will a little bit under 34k miles. *tr

I have a 2005 equinox 4wd. on jan. 13, 2006 while driving 70 mph the suv completely shuts down, engine, lights, everything!. this happened twice in one day. i was able to crank it and it get it back to my home. then on jan. 16th, 2006, for the 3rd time, it was 5:30 am completely dark while i was driving @65 mph, the suv completely shuts down again! i could not see anything because it was pitch dark. i managed to find a flash light with the help of my 14 year old daughter. i was 6 inches from a mailbox! after a few minutes the suv cranked. i drove it a few miles more to the dealership where i bought the vehicle. the dealer kept it from jan. 16th, 06 to jan. 31st, 2006. they brought the vehicle to me on feb. 1st., 2006. supposedly it was something to do with the ignition system. it drove fine until march 9th, 2006. the same thing happen. while i was driving the engine totally shuts down, without warning. i managed to coast to the side of the road. it cranked after a few minutes and i drove it about a mile and parked it at our shop. the dealer was notified the next day on march 10th, 2006 about the problem. they sent a wrecker to pick it up. *jb

Broken blend door on 2006 chevy equinox
03/07/2011
The blend door in my 2006 chevy equinox lt is broken. the knob that turns it from cold to hot is cracked and i was told by a mechanic that this piece should not have been broken and it is a manufacture defect. it is only blowing cold air. i have read many complaints online from people with the exact same issue. this is a safety issue because i can't defrost my windshield on a cold day with cold air. i have driven with fogged windows and windshield almost hitting objects on the road because i couldn't see anything. the repairs are expensive and gm needs to place a recall on this.

Heater not working on 2006 chevy equinox causing safety and visibiilty problems. one day the ac and heat were working fine, the next day the heater would only blow cold air...no heat as well as a non-working window defroster. this began in early november. the dealership says the actuator needs to be replaced as well as the temperature door (blend door). cost is $100 for the analysis and about $1,000 for parts and labor. i have a securenet extended warranty but they say this is not covered. car is at dealership now aweaiting my approval to do the work. i am in limbo and looking for another shop who can maybe fix it cheaper. considering the hundreds if not thousands of complaints i have seen online about this, and the fact the parts were cheap and should not be breaking so soon, this needs to be recalled!

2006 equinox with less than 55000 miles needs a new head gasket. yesterday was the 4th trip to the dealer to find the problem with my car overheading. this morning i was told it's a blown head gasket. i did a small amount of internet research only to find this is a known problem. i love my car but am so pissed over the run-around i've been getting for a known problem and that the problem has not been corrected on all vehicles affected. if i didn't have an understanding boss, an issue such as this could have cost me my job as i've spent a lot of time going back and forth between work and the dealership and now i'm without my vehicle until it's repaired. thank god i purchased the extended warrantee when it was offered.

I have a 2006 chevy equinox. earlier this week, the heater stopped working. i took it into a mechanic, and was told the heater door was not working properly. this car has 31,000 miles. then we were driving the car home and got caught in a snow storm. our visibility was extremely impaired and we almost hit 2 cars. we had to pull over every 10 blocks to manually defrost the windows and clear off the fog. after looking online, this seems to be a common problem with this make and model. no heater/defroster is a serious safety hazard in snowy conditions. repair is estimated at $1500.

Hvac system went out on 2006 chevrolet equinox vehicle. vehicle has 38,000 miles and was just out of warranty which was 3 years or 36,000 miles. we live in colorado springs, colorado and had major snowstorm when heater went out while driving on interstate 25. safety of driver and others were put at jeopardy due to vehicle heater failure. front windshield and windows would not defrost putting driver at risk. after getting home safely looked at internet site (topix.com) and found approximately 230 other vehicle owners with same make and model that has had the same type failure of the 2006 equinox heater system failure. there has been no recall of this problem by chevrolet putting at risk the safety of drivers of this vehicle model when chevrolet knows of the failure of the heater system. took vehicle to dealer on january 8, 2009 and explained heater failure and concern to local service manager. service manager stated that there is no vehicle recall for this failure and that the number of heater failures for this model versus sales of this model is low. costs to replace heater on vehicle was $1100 but due to my complaint. there should be a recall notice issued by chevrolet due to number of heater failures on this model of vehicle putting drivers at risk by not being able to use defroster to provide clear visibility on windshield and could result in a crash without warning. there is presently a safety recall (#090298) dated december 18,2009 nhtsa campaign id number 09v489000 for the 2010 equinox dealing with the same issue on safety and visibility issue. due to the number of failures of the heater system in the 2006 chevrolet equinox a recall should be issued for vehicle owners. owners are having to pay from $800 to $1100 dollars to have the heater system repaired so that they can safely drive in this model of vehicle during inclement weather and safely see out of the vehicle with a working defroster. this is definitely a safety issue and should be reviewed by the nhtsa. *tr

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE
07/25/201183613
I was traveling at a speed of about 10-15 miles per hour, conducting an investigation pertaining to my job, when i began to hear a loud clicking sound coming from my engine compartment. i immediately pulled over and turn the vehicle off. after letting the engine rest / cool for about 20 minutes, i restart the vehicle, at which point the amber oil alert lamp activates, and then turns off. now, mind you, i had just had an oil change approximately 700 miles prior to this occurring. the clicking began to subside, and, since the amber oil alert lamp was no longer on, i figured it would be a good idea just to get it back home so the oil could be checked the next morning. suddenly, when i arrive home, and get ready to turn the vehicle off in the driveway, the amber oil alert lamp re-activates, the engine, again, clicking. i turned the vehicle off. the following morning, i contacted a g.m. dealership and described to them what had occurred. they told me i should bring the vehicle to them to be inspected; however, the soonest i could get in was about three weeks. instead, i contacted a local oil-change store and had the oil changed and the system checked out. a little ways down the road, about 1,000 miles into my oil change, the amber oil lamp comes on again, still clicking, but not nearly as much as before. i pull into my driveway a few miles later and start hearing a clunking knocking sound coming from the engine compartment, at which point the red oil lamp came on. i called the general motors corporate customer support line, whom, after i described what was going on, stated to me it sounded like a major engine problem relating to oil issues. i asked what general motors could do for me, and she stated i am sorry, mr. black, but the equinox, prior to the 2008, was not manufactured with any type of power train warranty whatsoever. i am sorry but there is nothing we can do to help you. now i have to replace my engine due to major damage!  We have a 2006 chevrolet equinox that has continuously had an electrical short in the wiring harness that deactivates the gas pedal accelorator. when it happens you can only move the vehicle with the pedal floored at 1 mile per hour which is very dangerous when you are on a high speed higway with no other cars around as you can not move out of the way of high speed vehicles that may be approaching. we have had it into the dealer three times and it continues to happen again intermittently as to the point we feel it is unsafe to drive. we have filed a complaint with chevy and they refuse to take any responsibility. we are afraid to take it on vacation as we could be stranded.
