For a few months my key was having trouble turning in my ignition as well as my spare key. it finally stopped working all together. i had to get my car towed and had to have the housing and ignition replaced. my mechanic has informed me this is an ongoing problem with the equinox models. my friend and i have the same model but different years and are realizing we are having the same issues. if this is such a problem for chevy they need to place it on the recall list instead of consumers having to pay $450 for something they know is an existing problem.

Chevy equinox 2006-broken blend door due to malfunction of the actuator. cost for diagnoses $44, cost to repair $1,000. have noticed that numerous owners of this year and make are having this problem around the 50,000 mile mark, mine is at 51,000. problem is not covered under extended warranty and poses a safety hazard in that the heat ceases without warning. defrost is not usable. this should be a safety recall from the manufacturer due to the large number of equinox owners with the same problem. the part has been redesigned and should be updated without cost to these chevrolet owners.

Last summer the ac in my car started to act weird, i just had bought the car and didnt think much of it for a while. then, after having my daughter and having her get over heated because the ac was freezing up i decided to take it to a repair place that told me that there was a plastic versus a metal arm that opens a door that allows the cold and hot air flow to go through my car and that it needed to be replaced with in fact a metal one. this was going to cost me a lot of money, roughly 1000-1500 dollars of which i do not have, since summer was nearly over i decided it was not that critical and i drove other family members vehicles if i had a long way to drive so my baby didnt over heat in her car seat. now as of today my heat isnt working, it is freezing outside and once again the safety of my child is at risk because she is cold. i have read tons of complaints online and reviews hat tons of people with the same car are having the same problem and that the metal arm replacement part is very cheap but that the labor is through the rood. i cannot afford the labor and i cannot afford my child to be ober heated or freexing because chevy/gm decided to be cheap and use a plastic piece instead of metal to save a buck or two. i want this to be recalled, this is affecting hundreds if not thousands of people who have gotten a 2006 equinox. i would like something done about this as soon as possible because i cannot continue to put my child in an unsafe and uncomfortable environment.

2006 chevy equinox (49351 miles) just quit blowing hot air through vents or defroster. dealer says a broken blend door cost $1500 to repair. seems this make/model has the same problem at about 50000 miles. what is chevrolet doing to help the purchasers of this vehicle. not a damn thing. great customer service, i will never purchase another chevy/gm product. very dangerous situation in cool temps where windshield fogs up driving down the road. i guess it will take a fatality for chevy to admit fault and correct this. highly disappointed!!!

The blend door broke on my heater, causing no heat at all. during the winter months this causes ice and frost to build on my windshield, causing a serious safety hazard. after researching online, i found several hundred others in the same situation, this repair is ranging from $900 to $1200. with this cost i only wonder how many people are driving one of these vehicles franticly trying to wipe their window to prevent ice / frost while driving.

As with what i have discovered to be with hundreds of other equinox owners...with out warning or prior issues, my heater is no longer heating the air. it just blows out cold air. i have been told that it is the actuator/blend door (which is a plastic part) and that to correct it, requires the entire dash to be removed, 8+ hours of labor and upwards of $1000 in repair costs. i only have 44,000 miles on this car and should not be having this issue so early into the life/ownership of this car. i contacted gm and they are unwilling to recognize this as a problem and refused to offer any assistance to get it corrected. this is obviously a safety issue as it also prevents the defroster from working as well. temperatures have been in the teens for several weeks now which makes it dangereous to drive in the cold and snowy conditions. i have discovered several owner forums accross the internet and have found hundreds of the same complaint on this make/model. i have also since learned that gm recalled the 2010 model for the exact same reason but is ignoring the same issue on the earlier models. gm needs to be made accountable for their faulty cost cutting ways and correct this problem via a recall.

In oct 2010 the heat stopped working on my 2006 chevy equinox. at first i thought the problem might have been caused by air getting into the cooling system lines, because the coolant level in the reservoir had gotten a bit low. but adding coolant and trying to burp the system didn't fix the problem. upon searching the web, i discovered that quite a few people had the same no-heat problem with the chevy equinox and pontiac torrent (which is the same vehicle platform). it turns out the problem is caused by a small door that allows air to flow past the heater core. apparently this air temperature blend door has a plastic connecting shaft to an electric motor, and the shaft is prone to breaking after a few years. the trouble is... replacing this little part is not easy. it involves removing much of the dashboard, which takes a long time. consequently, the cost to repair this problem at a gm dealer is around $1,000, give or take a few hundred bucks.

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox and the heater blows cold air causing the windshield to frost up. took to a chevrolet delaer and they said that it is a broken heater blend door and it cost me $1598.00 to fix. chevrolet does not say that thhis is a safety hazard therfore willl no issue a recall. i have been reading about this on other sites and there are some cases of people having to replace the part 4 times in 4 years.

In october of 2010 my 2006 chevy equinox heater began blowing cold air. i did research and found a lot of equinox owers are having the same issue. i went and recieved a diagnostics at the dealership and they said it is the temperature door and the repair cost is $1300. this is a safety issue because i am unable to defrost the the windows if there is a snow storm or just being too cold. this happens whenever i turn on the heat and my concern is being able to see out the windsheild if it fogs up or freezes. gmc has yet to issue a recall on the defective part. i have googled this problem and there is a website with over 400 complaints of consumers with the same issue and their vehicle being diagnosed with the same defective part.

2006 chevy equinox heater stopped working at 75k+ miles. i am told by dealer and numerous complaints online by same exact vehicle owners that this is a faulty and defective blendor door arm. it was replaced with plastic versus metal for 2006 in effort to cut corners. they all consistently break at 3 years or more! very common complaint. it is a safety issue when you are driving in 20degree weather and constantly get sick! also unable to defrost ice and haze from wind shield since only cold air blows out! this dmimishes the visibility significantly! if i can't see from my windshield and have to a) drive with window open and freeze, b) use hand to wipe off while driving or c) pull over constantly and clean off windshield or use the mini plug in heater i had to purchase to help defrost my iced wind shield in the morning! over $1000 to fix. it is a defect. please google this year and heater you will find many many websties with exact complaints. gm needs to acknowledge this and fix at no charge!

2006 chevy equinox bought brand new and now has 31t miles on it and the heater does not work. therefore, my windshields freeze up and cannot be defrosted. i am pregnant with my first child and am not going to be able to use this vehicle as it is safety hazard. the dealership sited it would cost me $1,076.00+tax to fix the air director door.

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 chevrolet equinox. the contact stated the air actuator on the vehicle will over extend and brake. this causes the vehicle to loose heat and the defrost of the vehicle to fail. the dealership stated this is a known problem with the vehicle and the repair for the failure will fail again if you have to use your heat on full. the vin did not go through at the time of the complaint. the failure mileage and current mileages was 53622. rl

I have a 2006 chevy equinox that i bought brand new. i've had multiple problems with it. the first was issues with it not wanting to start. at that point it was still under warranty, and the dealership replaced the ignition. the problem has continued throughout the four years that i've had it, and now occurs almost every time i start my car. i've also had the heater blow cold air, and the dealer replaced blower door and actuator. i contacted gm, who agreed to pay half of the cost. that was in january of 2009. since then, i've had multiple issues as well with the key getting stuck in the ignition. usually after about 10 minutes of moving steering wheel back and forth, it will finally come out. this happened mostly this past summer when it was really hot outside. i've also heard clicking noises coming from the passenger side randomly when i turn my car right after my car has been parked and running for awhile. another issue is revving up for no reason. both times i was sitting at a stop light and then started to turn left and car revs up and seems to get stuck in gear then eventually kicks out. after reading the other reports, i am now scared that the next issue is going to be my car shutting down while i'm driving down the highway. i work in home health, therefore i am driving my car all day everyday. i also have a toddler and worry about his safety in my vehicle.

The heater in my equinox went out at about 45,000-50,000 miles. i was unable to defrost my window and driving conditions were dangerous not only to me but also to other drivers. i was able to get the part fixed after about 1 year of driving with no heat. it cost me $1,035 and of course happened not too long after my warranty had expired.

My 2006 chevy equinox starting blowing cold air in 2009. i took the car to my mechanic and discovered a plastic piece known as the blend door assembly is stuck or broken and it will cost over $1000 to repair. without heat my windows will not defrost and it is a safety issue. i went to a site (http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/chevrolet-equinox/tnmhvcte76u9hgth4/p5) and found hundreds of gm owners are having the same problem. please forced gm to recall this item.

The heating control on my vehicle has malfunctioned. the problem is permanent. there is no internal heat. as i live in a winter climate, the lack of heat with my blower has made defrosting my vehicle difficult to impossible. upon further research, this exact problem has been diagnosed with at least several hundred vehicles of my make and model. the problem is a heating door mechanism that controls hot and cold. a local mechanic stated that chevrolet would not provide a non-dealership the part to fix it. chevrolet fails to acknowledge this as any safety concern. the dealership is offering to repair it for $1000.

My heater only blows out cold air! i've read over 500 complaints on other sires how gm decided to replace a metal door arm to the heater component with a plastic one which almost certainly will break at one point. usually 3-4 years of owning the vehicle! apparently their is a huge amount of labor involved to replace a $60-200 part which is only available thru the dealer and a min. of $1000 labor to fix because it requires removing the entire dash and other vital components of the vehicle! it is common knowledge this is going to happen and chevy is now going to start using metal arms?! gm will not recall this item even though dealers all over the country agree this is a set up.

I have a 2006 chevrolet equinox lt 3.4l awd and everything worked fine, i did not use my heater allsummer long. i turned it on as of 10/10/2010 and there was no heat at all. it was only cold air. i heard this is a very common issue and in some areas can be considered a safety risk. i live in the midwest where during winter, there is always frost on windows. if i do not have heat to defrost windows or get ice and snow off, this causes a risk. and putting hot or warm water on the window risks cracking the window. thanks for hearing me and this safety risk, it would be very nice to have this recalled as it is a common issue and is over $1000 to fix.

I have a 2006 chevy equinox and the heater has stopped working. the defroster does not work and according to the dealer it will cost atleast $1000 to repair a blend door that seems to be defective in alot of these vehicles. seems to me that gmcshould pay the price since so many are having this same problem.

The chevy equinox 2006 has had numerous problems with the heating system valve door breaking. it was explained to me by my dealer that this has been an ongoing problem with the car yet it is costing consumers approximately $1,000. to fix. there needs to be a recall on the trap door that releases the heat.

I was lucky and found out when it was summer time and not cold out... my mechanics have replaced 2 different parts the temp switch and valve that they were told could be the problem and still no heat .. and i have done more research on the problem it turns out to be the heat door arm is broke and take 7-8 hours to remove the dash. many equinox have the same problem with out heat and defrost you cant see to use the car during cold weather this is a safety issue during the winter

I also had issues with my cd player. after inserting cd the player window announced for me to insert a disc. i ejected and tried again. still it would not identify the cd as being loaded. i tried original cd's (brand new 1st time being played & older) as well as homemade copied cd's. none would read. this was only 5 months after purchased brand new. the cd player never worked again, however the radio did work fine. the dealer completely replaced the entire radio/cd/mp3 player after inspecting & found internal failure. *tr

Heat is blowing cold air. replaced thermostat and did not help. no heat. read on-line and seems to be a common complaint with this year/this vehicle.

Heater stopped blowing hot air which causes the windows to unsafely fog up on cold snowy and or rainy days. all visibility is gone as the inside fogs up wipers are unable to clear the glass. may cause potential serious accidents. it is to my knowledge this is happening with every 2006 equinox out there. the actuator goes out of alignment causing the blend door to break and not allow the heat in.

I have a 2006 chevy equinox company vehicle. on thursday the 26th of october, i had to change a flat tire on the passengers front. the vehicle was on level ground. while the car was in the raised position, i removed the flat and proceeded to replace it with the spare. as i was doing so, the scissor jack collapsed by bending over in half. on nov. 1st, i went to sale automotive in kinston, nc. to show them the jack. they ordered me a new one. i still have the old jack until the new one comes in. *nm
